Elba would star alongside Nicholas Galitzine in the role of He-Man, Camila Mendes, who is playing Teela, and Alison Brie as “Evil-Lyn.”
Travis Knight is directing the film from a screenplay by Chris Butler. Plot details are being kept under wraps for the film, which will be released exclusively in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026. The movie will be produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

We first heard that a live-action She-Ra series was in development at Amazon back in 2021, and while updates have been pretty much non-existent since, it seems the project is finally starting to take shape.
According to Variety, Heidi Schreck has come aboard the project as writer and executive producer. Robin Sweet will also executive produce, along with DreamWorks Animation.
Schreck has previously worked on the likes of Billions and Nurse Jackie at Showtime, as well as Dispatches from Elsewhere at AMC, and the Amazon series I Love Dick. She is arguably is best known for writing and starring in the critically-acclaimed play, What the Constitution Means to Me.
Nicole Kassell is set to direct and executive produce the pilot episode. The filmmaker has previously helmed episodes of HBO's Watchmen, Westworld, The Leftovers, The Americans, and Castle Rock, so this show is in good hands.

Titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the Netflix original was released in two five-episode drops, both of which I loved. A blend of modern animation techniques coupled with a throwback to the Filmation style of the 1980s cartoon, Revelation was blasted online by a vocal minority who disliked Smith’s decision to “kill off” Prince Adam in the first episode and make the series centered on Teela and many of the female characters. We knew something was on its way from Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski but we weren’t expecting this: a new animated movie from Warner Bros. Animation and WB Home Entertainment.
Straczynski described it as: “Classic Babylon 5: raucous, heartfelt, nonstop, a ton of fun through time and space, and a love letter to the fans.”
It might not be as well known as his comic-book work, but Straczynski actually has a background in animation – writing episodes of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Captain Power, The Real Ghostbusters, and other 1980s action favorites.
We know that Bruce Boxleitner is back – which is also fitting, as he’s got some hefty voice acting chops, reprising his most famous other science fiction role for the 2012 show Tron: Uprising – but we’re going to have to wait another week for more details.

Produced by Warner Bros. Television, the sci-fi series Babylon 5 ran for a total of five seasons and 110 episodes, wrapping up in 1998. There were also six TV movies, a short-lived spin-off series called Crusade, tie-in novels and comic books… and series creator J. Michael Straczynski has been hoping to revive the show in some way for quite a while. In 2014, we heard he was planning to make a Babylon 5 feature film. In 2021, it was announced that he had set up a reboot series at The CW. Now Straczynski has taken to social media to reveal that a Babylon 5 animated movie is coming from Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment – and it’s already finished and in the can! He said the release date will be “very soon”.

Reboots aren’t just for grown-ups anymore.
The proliferation of streaming platforms reliant on free-flowing programming pipelines has led to the development of new versions of shows such as “Battlestar Galactica” and “True Blood” that last aired when Barack Obama was president. That same industry-shaking shift away from linear and toward streaming, coupled with the emergence of nostalgia and geekdom as dominating cultural forces, has turned kids TV — already accustomed to regularly reimagining corporate-controlled IP — into a hotbed of reboots.
“We’re in an interesting time right now, where, probably more so than ever before, adults who grew up with certain properties are able to still be a part of those fandoms and talk about them and participate in those fandoms very actively,” says Noelle Stevenson, creator of the DreamWorks Animation-produced “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” for Netflix. “In the past, it was maybe a little bit more of a niche thing.

We’re all shaped by the myths we grow up with, whether it’s the stories we learn from holy books or Saturday morning cartoons. Kids who see themselves as the hero learn to center themselves in their own life stories. Kids who see their experiences relegated to the sidelines, or not represented at all, come away with a very different lesson — one that can take years to unlearn.

A hit for Filmation in 1985, She-Ra: Princess of Power (a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe spin-off) ran for more than 50 episodes and generated millions of dollars in toy-sales (as it was created to do). Now owned by DreamWorks and with showrunner Noelle Stevenson onboard, the female warrior has undergone a major reimagining for an online audience.
Now titled She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power, the story centres around orphans Adora (Aimee Carrero) and Catra (Aj Michalka). Found and raised by the Horde to fight in their take-over of Etheria, the girls grow up like sisters under the harsh tutelage of commander Shadow Weaver (Lorraine Toussaint). Tired of being pitted against each other for the rank of Force Captain, the girls sneak out to the Whispering Woods to blow off some steam.

For the cast of Netflix’s She-Ra, the impact of She-Ra’s co-creator still resonates.
When Larry Ditillio passed away on March 16th, 2019, he left behind a huge body of beloved work. Beast Wars: Transformers, Babylon 5, The Real Ghostbusters, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe are just some of the many series he wrote or story edited in his many years in the business. One of the biggest highlights of his work was co-creating and writing many episodes of the original She-Ra: Princess of Power.
The power and long lasting impact of that work was proven when last year the series was rebooted as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix. While the series changed some elements of Ditillio’s work it was still very much a love letter to his work, with many direct references throughout.

1. “House of Cards” Season 6 (available November 2)
Why Should I Watch? It’s the end, and not just for the show. Though not technically the first, “House of Cards” marked the beginning of Netflix’s originals onslaught. With its antihero lead and award-winning film director at the helm (David Fincher), the Underwoods’ journey embodied many characteristics that came to define TV’s golden age. But things have changed in the last six years. Antiheroes are on the outs. TV creators are as in demand as their film brethren, if not more so. And now, in its final season, “House of Cards” is shorter, female-focused, and trying to be as relevant to today’s TV as its first season once was to its era. Plus, don’t you kind of just want to see how it ends?
Bonus Reason: Patricia Clarkson. Anyone who’s stayed current with “House of Cards” already knows...

Netflix's She-Ra reboot aims to be much more than a He-Man spinoff. Here the creators explain their influences.
“From the first moment I saw that opening sequence and the characters on the cliff with the rainbow overhead, I was in love. This is made for me,” Noelle Stevenson said about the 1985 Filmation cartoon, She-Ra: Princess of Power. Stevenson aims to give that feeling to all children today with her new animated Netflix show, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which will be released on November 13.
Freed from the constraints of TV channels airing episodes out of order and missed episodes due to soccer practice, the cast and crew will explore the world of Etheria in new ways by deepening lore, fleshing out characters and relationships, approaching previously unexplored topics, and telling a more serialized story that the original couldn’t. Cannes — DreamWorks Animation Television caught the streaming wave early and has built a bustling studio thanks to the high demand for kid-centric programs from Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.
DreamWorks Animation Television president Margie Cohn detailed the company’s rapid expansion during the past five years during her keynote address Sunday at the Mip Junior conference, held in Cannes one day before the international TV community gathers here for the annual Mipcom sales conference.
Dwa Television had all of five employees at the time the company signed a mammoth multi-series deal with Netflix in 2013, Cohn said. Today it employs about 800 people. Getting the company up to speed quickly forced Cohn and her team to consider everything they liked and didn’t like about the production experience in the past.

Netflix and Dreamworks Animation have announced that they have a new slate of animated series projects in development that are set to launch next year. One of the most exciting projects that came with the announcement includes a revival of the classic 80s series She-Ra: Princess of Power!
I hope that the series turns out to be good. I think it's something that my girls are going to love. I'm sure most of you are familiar with She-Ra, but if not, she is also known as Princess Adora and is the twin sister of Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man. She was kidnapped as a baby by the Horde's leader Hordak. She is eventually given the Sword of Protection, which parallels He-Man's Sword of Power, gaining the power to transform into She-Ra.

Below, we've got the official description directly from DreamWorks. Note that they've dropped the 'Princess Of Power' part of the title, and just refer to it as She-Ra:

In the first season of “Stranger Things,” the quartet of young men (“the party,” to use the parlance of Dungeons and Dragons) is clearly a direct homage to the show’s love of Stephen King (many of King’s narratives revolve around similar friend groups). But it’s the addition of Eleven to the group — the “mage,” as Mike likes to refer to her — that aligns the show with an even more common trope.
Nearly any child of the ’80s and ’90s will fondly remember, as a part of their youth, watching cartoons. And for boys, there was a lot of fun to be had in identifying with certain characters. You could be a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” fan, but more intellectual types might consider themselves to be Donatello, while a more rebellious boy might prefer to don the red eye mask of Raphael.

By The Power Of Grayskull! After years of back and forth over a mooted adaptation of Masters of the Universe, with many different writers and directors attached to bring the series back to the big screen, Sony have now officially announced a release date for the return to Eternia.
Most recently linked to the project was McG, the filmmaker behind Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation and This Means War, and early last year he stated that he was to make the film and had met Twilight star Kellan Lutz about possibly playing the title role. But with the announcement of the new release date comes news that the director has now exited and the search is on for a new helmer. (via EW).
Indeed, many screenwriters have taken a stab at the screenplay with Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) and Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) amongst those hired previously.

Tarzan, Space Sentinels, The New Adventures Of Batman, Flash Gordon, Bravestarr and more, as we salute Filmation...
For a child of the 1970s and 80s, nothing readied you for a half hour of quality entertainment quite like the Filmation logo. Immortalised by their phenomenal success with He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe, and its spin off She-Ra: Princess Of Power, Filmation produced some of the most fondly remembered animated series to grace the small screen.
Over a period of 26 years - in tandem with classic Doctor Who funnily enough - the company's writers, artists and producers delivered a staggering amount of programming. While naysayers point to Filmation's penchant for reusing a stockpile of rotoscoped body movements, or the heavy handedness of its moralising and educational content - children on the other hand, thrilled to an irresistible mixture of action, adventure and superhuman heroes.

I’ve made it no secret that I think the '80s and '90s brought some of the best children’s cartoons the world will ever see. The back-stories that explained the characters' histories and rise to fame or infamy were always amusing, and the level of creativity put into cartoons during those two decades seemed stronger than those which followed. Sometimes we cheered for the hero, sometimes we cheered for the villain. But regardless of which side you were pulling for, chances are that you loved to see someone's ass being kicked... and here's examples of characters who dished it out. Venom from Spider-Man: The Animated Series Venom is the arch-nemesis of Spider-Man (in this series, he is created from Spidey’s own DNA). In addition to being an enemy, he is also the proud owner of an awesome tongue. Venom is a big-time ass kicker and a determined super-villain,...

Most titles from the memories of the Children of the 80s have been announced for film adaptations, only to languish in development hell. Thundercats, Voltron, and Masters of the Universe have all been promised to loyal fans for years, especially in the wake of the success of Michael Bay’s Transformers —with no payoff for the waiting.
Many fans, though, would rather not see their favorites come to life than to see them done poorly. This is a mistake that Hollywood is taking a gamble on by selecting Masters of the Universe to be dragged out of mothballs and dusted off for fans of the most powerful man in the universe—He-Man. Sources close to Sony Pictures and Escape Artists have announced that G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Step-Up series director Jon M. Chu is in talks to bring He-Man and the Masters of the Universe to life.

Cory Monteith used to have a crush on a cartoon character. The 28-year-old "Glee" actor, who plays Finn Hudson in the TV musical drama, used to be a big fan of warrior princess "She-Ra" and the skimpy outfits she wore in animated children's TV series "She-Ra: Princess of Power". He said, "My first crush was on She-Ra. There is something about a woman in a fur bikini with a sword that just does it for me."
Cory has been linked to a number of high-profile women, including his co-star Lea Michele, singer Taylor Swift and actress Selena Gomez, but the hunky star insists he has no time to date. He added, "If I was dating everyone that people said I was, my life would be pretty complicated. I'm so busy I don't have much time for girls at the moment."
Despite not having time for a girlfriend, Cory takes care...

I’m trying to remember: What is the appropriate gift for the 25th anniversary of your cheesy children’s cartoon fantasy adventure series? Is this the flaming-sword anniversary? Or is it the magical-tiara one? From a Mattel press release: For the honor of Grayskull! 2010 marks the 25th Anniversary of She-Ra, one of the world’s most popular female superheroes and star of the hit 1980s animated television series, She-Ra: Princess of Power. She-Ra, also known as Princess Adora, is the twin sister of He-Man (Prince Adam) and the lead heroine in the Masters of the Universe® franchise. First introduced in March 1985 in the animated feature film, He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword, soon thereafter She-Ra was given a spin-off television series, She-Ra: Princess of Power, which began airing in September 1985.
