Parts of Norwich city centre have been pedestrianised, although not to the extent that Alan originally feared.
One of the original ideas for the second season, was to set it in a former mansion, which had been converted into small flats. Alan would have been the only person living there, except for an airline pilot, who would live in the other wing, and occasionally walk past Alan.
Despite Alan stating Lynn was 50 in S1 E3, the actress, Felicity Montagu was only 37 at the time of filming.
Amelia Bullmore (Sonja) travelled to Kiev to research Ukrainian accents. Originally, it was hoped that Peter Serafinowicz (Tex) would play Tomek, Sonja's boss in the café, but it was thought that the logistics of speaking, or pretending to speak Ukrainian, would be too complex.
