Park Hoon-jung, an in-demand director of action-noir films, will begin production this month on “Tristes Tropiques.” The picture will be launched to distributors on the sidelines of the Toronto International Film Festival by Finecut, which is to handle sales rights.

The film follows a group of young assassins affiliated with the Tristes Tropiques organization, which specializes in jungle warfare and is under the absolute rule of Master.

The production will be located in Thailand and run from September to December. Finecut reports that it will boast an international cast adept at diverse styles of action, but it offers no details of either the Korean or foreign elements.

“Tristes Tropiques” is produced by director Park’s own production company, Gold Moon Film and is co-produced by Mindmark, a content IP company owned by the Shinsegae department stores and duty-free shopping group. Its recent slate also includes “A Normal Family,” “Victory,” “Love Reset” and “Honey Sweet.

The actor has signed on to star opposite Liam Neeson in Paramount Pictures’ untitled remake of Naked Gun, based on the crime spoof comedies that were released in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Akiva Schaffer is directing the comedy, which has a script by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand and Schaffer. The trio were behind the popular and Emmy-winning Disney+ movie Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

The official cause of death for David Gail, 58, the former “Port Charles” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” actor who died last month after being found unresponsive by emergency personnel, has been determined, reports Deadline via a statement released by the late actor’s mother, Mary Painter.

Mumbai, Feb 19: Sumeet Vyas felt like he was acting in a play while shooting for Mahesh Manjrekar's upcoming web series, 1962: The War In The Hills. The reason, he explained, is because both Manjrekar and he come from a theatre background.

"I have always been a fan of Mahesh sir's work and had hoped to do a project with him one day. With 1962: The War In the Hills, I finally got that opportunity," Sumeet said.

"Since he too has a background in theatre like me, I almost felt like I was acting in a play. For me there is nothing better than working with a theatre personality because I feel I can relate to them in the best way," he added.

Contents Panda, Next Entertainment World’s international sales arm, has scored a series of sales deals for “Rampant,” one of the biggest Korean titles set for the second half of 2018.

Well Go USA had picked up “Rampant” for North American release, set for Nov. 2. The film has sold to the U.K. and Vietnam (Purple Plan), Germany (Splendid Film) and to Rafaella Films for the Philippines, Movie Cloud for Taiwan, Sahamongkolfilm for Thailand, Colorful Garden for Myanmar and Westec Media for Cambodia. Clover Films had picked up the film for Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. Cine Asia will handle the film in Australia and New Zealand.

Occasionally though, there are some productions that still manage to stand out, and prove that the genre has still something to give. And who else to come up with such a film than Park Hoon-jung, whose credits include “I Saw the Devil” (scriptwriter) and “New World”, two films that are among the top entries in the category. “V.I.P.” continues in the same footsteps.

The film confusingly begins right in the middle of a bloody massacre in a Facility. Professor Baek, who clearly is in charge of it all, is overseeing a mass killing of children inside the Facility while Mr. Choi, the suave, scary Handler for the establishment is on the tail of two children, a boy and a girl, who have managed to escape amidst all the violence. While Mr. Choi and his henchmen manage to capture the boy, the girl flees and ends up at the farm of Mr.

Park Hoon-jung is known for his fast-paced, male-centric screenplays and action-packed directorials. His latest film, “The Witch: Part 1. Subversion”, is the first time he has a central female protagonist.

2017 saw a bit of a resurgence in Asian serial killer films. While South Korea gave us a mixed bag of films of the genre like “V.I.P.”, “Memoir of a Murderer” and “The Chase”, Japan remade the South Korean thriller “Confession of Murder” into “Memoirs of a Murderer” with disastrous results. But it was Chinese director Dong Yue’s solid debut effort “The Looming Storm” that managed to stand heads and shoulders over the rest. South Korean independent sales house, Finecut has picked up international sales rights to “The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion.”

Warner Bros. Korea’s fifth local language production, “The Witch” is directed by Park Hoon-jung, who is best known for his 2013 crime drama “New World.” Finecut previously distributed Park’s two other films, “New World,” and “V.I.P.”

The revenge thriller with supernatural elements revolves around a school-girl-turned-tv-star who lost her memory when she broke out of a government facility ten years previously.

Starring Kim Da-mi in the heroine role along with high profile talents including Cho Min-soo (“Pieta”), Park Hee-soon (“The Age of Shadows”) and Choi Woo-shik (“Okja”), the film is set for a Jun. 27 release in South Korea and will receive an international premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in its competition section.

The company previously handled Park’s crime drama V.I.P. (2017) and action noir New World (2013). The films respectively clocked up $9.8m and $31.2m at the local box office, according to the Korean Film Council (Kofic), in addition to selling strongly worldwide.

The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion stars up-and-coming actress Kim Da-mi, who Finecut say, “landed the main role of the young heroine following a highly selective audition process.

Park Hoon-jung is better known for writing the screenplays for “I Saw the Devil” & “The Unjust”. Although his directional debut “The Showdown” in 2011 was overlooked, he bounced back with “New World” in 2013 and “The Tiger: An Old Hunter’s Tale” in 2015. Both movies starred Chio Min-shik and were commercially successful. Now he returns with another crime thriller, which is also the third co-production of Warner Brothers and South Korea.

“V.I.P.” is a complete crime thriller concerning a North Korean serial killer who defected to the South and consequently was hunted by not only a North Korean agent, the local police and the National Intelligence Service but also the CIA.
