It’s been a difficult week for The Walking Dead camp – both on set and off.
On one side of the lens, season 8 reached its mid-season finale with all the urgency of a mindless walker lumbering toward its next victim. Entitled “How It’s Gotta Be,” let’s just say that the super-sized episode struggled to leave much of an impression on its audience, while some questioned the need to kill off Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), a mainstay of The Walking Dead since its inception.
Held up as a game-changing moment, Carl’s forthcoming death will have a marked effect on season 8, but it seems that endgame shocker wasn’t enough to save the show’s dwindling ratings.
Deadline brings word today that “How It’s Gotta Be” posted the worst ratings for a mid-season finale of The Walking Dead since 2011, and that’s despite Sunday’s episode drawing in...

Update: Several more photos from the film have been released by EW and can be seen in the gallery down below.
The Phoenix has awoken.
Entertainment Weekly has today unveiled a fiery first peek at Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey as she’ll appear in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the star-studded 2018 blockbuster coming by way of Simon Kinberg (The Twilight Zone).
Held up as the “most emotional, pathos-driven” X-Men movie of Fox’s ongoing prequel saga, Dark Phoenix takes place roughly 10 years after the events of Apocalypse, at a time when our core group of mutants – namely Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters) – are celebrated as national heroes. But there’s trouble afoot.
Between Charles Xavier’s (James McAvoy) inflated ego – hell, he even lands on the cover of Time magazine – and the X-Jet being at the mercy of a potentially deadly solar flare,...

“….at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with [director] George [Miller]. I think Warner Bros. knows that. We are all waiting for him to show us the way,” Charlize Theron said this summer about more movies beyond “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Two years have passed since the phenomenal action movie blazed into cinemas, and while there has been lots of talk and hope about more films to follow, Miller hasn’t been in a rush.

You didn’t think AMC was going to sit back and let Stranger Things have all the fun now, did you?
As the Netflix darling continues to imitate cinema’s all-time greats in anticipation of its return on October 27th, AMC (via Bloody Disgusting) has rolled out a collection of new and nostalgic posters for The Walking Dead in honor of episode number 100, “Mercy.”
Reaching said milestone is no mean feat, particularly in the cutthroat business of television, and executive producer and director Greg Nicotero believes The Walking Dead‘s 100th episode – an episode that’s also doubling as season 8’s long-anticipated premiere – is cause for celebration. It’s seemingly chock-full of Easter eggs and nods to the past, but these old-school posters go one step further to pay tribute to cinema’s greatest hits.

It was an emotional day for Debra Messing.
The 49-year-old actress was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, but told Et's Nischelle Turner that despite her decades-long career, this accolade was one she didn't see coming.

"I think it was after we shot the first episode live in front of the audience, that's when it hit me," the 49-year-old actress said of going back to work on the show. "I mean, we all came out and we realized that it's another show night like exactly like 11 years ago and we all just got very teary-eyed."
"It was really an incredible moment. That was when I realized, we're really doing this."
After the emotions calmed down, it was easy to get back to work.
"It all felt exactly the same," Messing said.

Just when you thought Gwyneth Paltrow had bowed out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for pastures anew, the actress crops up for a small cameo at the tail-end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, proving that, yes, there’s still a future for her whip-smart Pepper Potts.
Case in point: four weeks ago, the actress was joined on set by Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr., the McU stalwart who plays her husband and the all-around genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist known as Tony Stark. Together, that trio makes up a very small part of the Avengers 4 cast, and over the past fortnight alone, the list of actors marked safe for Infinity War has grown immeasurably.
Assuming Marvel and the Russo Brothers don’t employ flashback sequences, the roster of heroes currently includes Black Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Sebastian Stan’s fan-favorite Bucky Barnes – along with Happy, Potts and Stark,...

Though a PR blunder threatened to spoil the surprise, late last night, Warner Bros. and IGN dropped the high-octane first trailer for Tomb Raider, the latest video game movie adaptation to tumble off Hollywood’s production line.
But whereas previous game-to-screen renditions have strayed off the beaten path, Roar Uthaug’s starry actioner remains fairly loyal to its source material, which in this case is the rebooted Crystal Dynamics video game series that began life in 2013. Held up as a spectacular rebirth for the iconic Lara Croft – replete with cinematic set-pieces and intense survival gameplay – Warner and Uthaug are gunning for a similarly jaw-dropping take on the video game legend, even if last night’s reveal trailer left much to be desired.

Will the fabled Hope Summers factor into Deadpool 2? It’s the piping hot theory currently doing the rounds online, and today, Cbm has compiled a new report that will only fan the flames of speculation.
Citing the sequel’s delightful little teaser trailer that screened before Logan back in March, Cbm seems to have identified a rather cute Easter egg that’s sprayed onto the interior of Wade Wilson’s personal changing room phone booth. It says the word “Hope!” and nothing else, but considering that the defaced frame also reads, “Nathan Summers, coming soon,” ardent fans have theorized that this is much more than just a throwaway reference to Nathan’s foster child.

No further details were disclosed at this time, and given how secretive Fox tends to be when it comes to its pool of blockbusters, that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.

Garry Marshall, the celebrated filmmaker and producer behind such films as Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries, has died aged 81, sources have confirmed.
Marshall passed away Tuesday in Burbank, California following complications from a stroke and later pneumonia.
Known for his knack of firing young up-and-comers to stardom, Marshall was instrumental in putting both Richard Gere and Julia Roberts on the map via Pretty Woman – the latter nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Actress – while The Princess Diaries ensured Anne Hathaway broke onto the scene as an exciting new talent. Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve and the recent Mother’s Day are examples of the director’s final movies.

Duncan Jones’ Warcraft: The Beginning and Assassin’s Creed not only stand tall as two of the biggest releases of 2016, but they’re also among the most high-profile video game adaptations in film history, sparking a resurgence in the game-to-movies practice that has already birthed renditions of Splinter Cell and the Alicia Vikander-fronted Tomb Raider.
Beyond that, though, two video game adaptations that continue to simmer on the brink of development can be traced back to developer Naughty Dog. Held up as cinematic masterpieces, over the years there has been mooted talk of both Uncharted and The Last of Us gracing the silver screen, and despite both projects displaying early signs of promise – Mark Wahlberg was attached to the former; Game of Thrones starlet Maisie Williams circled the latter – both films have effectively been placed on ice.

Corey Feldman, better known to you, I and the residents of Goon Docks as Mouth, has cast doubt over the possibility of The Goonies 2.
Despite reports claiming that the long-rumored sequel was close to entering production, with Steven Spielberg even claiming he was in possession of a story, Feldman recently told Movie Web that a direct follow-up is unlikely to ever materialize.
Much of that comes down to the age of director Richard Donner. Held up as the creative driving force behind both the 1985 cult classic and the languishing sequel, Feldman admitted that hopes of The Goonies 2 ever kicking into gear have been dwindling away for some time.
Richard Donner is 87 years old. And it’s like, no one really wants to make it without him. He’s the driving force behind it. He says it’s still alive. But as we all know…When you get to that age,...

March 2016 will go down as a defining period for Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe. However you feel about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the release of Zack Snyder’s tentpole jump-started a slate of superhero movies at the studio, and only a week before the film made its grand debut, it was revealed that Jason Fuchs had been appointed to breathe new life into Warner’s languishing Lobo adaptation.
Held up as the ‘Deadpool effect,’ it was a sure-fire sign that a Lobo movie was back in contention at WB after slipping off the radar in recent months. And though it’s been some time since we last caught wind of the nascent project, Fuchs himself has posted a status update via Instagram confirming that, yes, he’s still toiling away on the screenplay.

Held up as the worst of the worst, David Ayer’s roster of anti-heroes are so each so eccentric – so larger than life – that it’s almost difficult to imagine a villain giving the black ops group a run for their money.
But that’s something Ayer touched upon in an interview with Total Film. When quizzed about the strange foes that crop up in those stylish Suicide Squad trailers, the filmmaker went on to tease the identity of the villain – and no, it’s not Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime.

Instead, both the developer and EA doubled down on a number of multiplayer features for the licensed shooter, as it pulled from the beloved original trilogy of Star Wars movies. But as EA’s Patrick Soderlund told investors earlier this week, a decision was made early on in development to forgo a single-player campaign in order to align Battlefront with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which launched into theaters back in December.

"Where last year's An Unexpected Journey steered too structurally close to Fellowship and suffered by comparison, The Desolation of Smaug feels Ringsier in tone while forging entirely its own narrative path, marrying breathless action with shrewd character building."
Peter Bradshaw - The Guardian
"Jackson has shown that he is an expert in big-league popular movie-making to rival Lucas and Spielberg. His Smaug, with its fight scenes, chase spectaculars, creepy creatures and secret stone doors opening with a grinding noise, is something to set alongside the Indiana Jones films.

The film’s red-band trailer reveals a tragic — yet totally hilarious — end for the Barbadian beauty.
Not since Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve have so many huge, random names come together for a single film — only this time, it’s actually a comedy! James Franco, Seth Rogen and a cornucopia of other celebrities play themselves in This Is The End, an apocalyptic movie about drugs and survival and more drugs. But let’s talk about our favorite part of the trailer, other than Emma Watson attacking the guys with a shovel: Rihanna‘s hilarious cameo!
RiRi first appears at James’ party, at which point an over-zealous Michael Cera slaps her on the butt.
“Don’t f***ing touch my butt, bitch!” she responds, along with a well-deserved slap.
Rihanna Dies In ‘This Is The End’
Sadly, Rihanna’s time in the film is short-lived. As soon as...

Sports in films have been a cultural celebration, predating Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia also owing its linage to Thomas Edison’s early experiments in motion. Crooked Arrows uses lacrosse as half an entrance into something more interesting: a portrait of an upstate New York tribe. The film falters where other sports movies have: growing too sentimental and a tad cheesy for its own good. Ruthless like Goon, it is not – structurally it suffers from the same good intentions of contemporary Christian based filmmaking.
Joe Logan (Brandon Routh) is a former lacrosse star and half-blood he runs the business affairs of a small reservation casino, seeking to expand at the hands of Mr. Geyer (Tom Kemp), a developer who is, above all things, all about the Benjamin’s. In exchange for transferring additional tribal land to the private corporation, Joe, a tribal liaison that drives an Audi convertible and sharp suites,...
