- TriviaA movie based on Doug goes as far back as 1993 during the Nickelodeon era, when 20th Century Fox was to have released a movie based on Doug, alongside movies based on Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy, but because the show was canceled and picked up by Disney by the time this film was released, this could technically make this the only Nickelodeon based film released by Disney.
- GoofsDoug and his friends attend Beebe Bluff Middle School. But the sign outside the school reads "Bluffington Middle School." (This error occurs in several episodes of the television series as well.)

- Crazy creditsAt the end of the credits, we see the Jumbo Pictures studio logo and in the background we hear the whistle of the Doug theme song.
- Alternate versionsThe Disney Movie Club Exclusive features the TV edit version of the film which contains fade-ins and fade-outs of various parts, and the credit animation is sped-up.

This animated film answered all my questions about Doug. The 8 and 6 year olds that I watched it with thought it was Awesome! This is a good animated film. It has a moral lesson about doing the right thing even if it doesn't make you look cool. It's a film for kids that isn't so lame that it'll make adults want to run and hide. In reality we all should be able to relate to some of that Jr. angst that Doug and Skeeter experience. There's a really neat question and answer session with Doug's creator after the cartoon is over. For all the hype in the 6 through 10 set about this movie it was actually enjoyable which came as a pleasant surprise to this viewer. As a foot note I'd like to mention that Herman Melville is really an endearing character.
