Keeley Hawes, who appeared fully nude in the film, described the sex scenes as "tough" but said she was immediately put at ease by Gavin Millar and she knew she could trust David Odd because she had worked with him before.
While filming in Glen Coe, cast and crew enjoyed the hospitality of local resident Sir Jimmy Savile, who owned a cottage there and was apparently pleased to discover a shared interest in marathon-running with star actor Jonny Lee Miller.
Some of the more gory scenes in the novel were omitted for the film.
