A couple of villagers from Vigoule, a village in southwestern France, tries to save the small municipal theater that is on the verge of destruction, by giving an amateur show, telling the story of the village and its founder, the Chevalier Sainte-Germaine. Alexis, schoolteacher of the town and author of the play, and his wife Janine are helped by Norbert, "Monsieur la bricole", and André, municipal gardener, who plays the roles of blower and keeper of the theater. In order to attract a large audience, they hired a professional actor from "Paris", Jean-Pascal Faix, attracted by this very "terroir" experience. He must interpret, if all goes well, the capital role of the Chevalier Sainte-Germaine.
