Edward Norton still has the honor of starring in the only solo Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he is also one of the few actors to have their role replaced in the series that spans over 30 movies and 10 canonical shows. Ruffalo began his MCU journey a dozen years ago in the first Avengers blockbuster; where he “incredibly” captured the duality of Banner/Hulk better than any prior performer. Ruffalo managed to pull off the feat in a team-up event, whereas Norton, and a pre-mcu Eric Bana, had an entire feature dedicated to the hero.
Ruffalo immediately connected with audiences more than any of his predecessors, which raised the bar for how compelling this hero could be in live-action, while also rounding out the Avengers ensemble wonderfully. He gave the Marvel Cinematic Universe a big green hand to help lift the franchise to stratospheric heights. Without individual projects to focus on,...

Nicolas Cage’s net worth should’ve come to par with some of the A-listers in Hollywood. At one point in his career, Cage was one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, earning $20 million each for Gone in Sixty Seconds, Windtalkers, and National Treasure. However, his net worth came crashing down when his spending habits got out of his hands.

He owed debts to the IRS and a couple of other financial institutions. The actor claimed that he paid off the debts by taking on multiple films in a year, including even video-on-demand movies. His net worth went from over $100 million in the early 2000s to a mere $25 million and is currently reported to be $40 million.

Director John Woo is a name synonymous with action-packed cinema and stylized violence. Once a Hollywood favorite, known for his unique brand of gunfights, slow-motion scenes, and explosive action sequences, Woo helmed some bonafide blockbusters such as Mission: Impossible 2 and Face/Off.

However, despite his early success, Woo underwent a bit of a Hollywood exit after a Ben Affleck flick that made around $117 million at the box office. This, against a budget of $60 million, was seen as a failure, which led to a lack of offers for the director himself.
Woo himself believes that the failure of a couple of his later projects, including Paycheck, led to his status as an action movie pioneer being overlooked.

Mark Ruffalo's film debut came in 1994, when he appeared as a seductive and possibly supernatural super-hunk named Christian who periodically appears to Tracy Wells in the horror sequel "Mirror Mirror II: Raven Dance." The producers, likely pleased with his performance also hired Ruffalo to play a brand-new role in "Mirror Mirror III: The Voyeur." In that film, he played a sexy moving truck worker named Joey. Ruffalo did not appear in "Mirror Mirror 4: Reflections."
Despite starring in the "Mirror Mirror" movies, as well as the gore flick "The Dentist," Ruffalo had a pretty varied early career. He appeared in the '60s-set coming-of-age drama "There Goes My Baby" in 1994, the indie comedy "Safe Men" in 1998, and the Oscar Bait biopic "54" that same year. He worked with Ang Lee in 1999's "Ride with the Devil," but exploded into the pop consciousness with his memorable performance in Kenneth Lonergan...

Silent Night Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Joel Kinnaman, Kid Cudi, Harold Torres, and Catalina Sandino Moreno
Director: John Woo
Silent Night Movie Review(Photo Credit –IMDb)
What’s Good: It is fantastic to see John Woo back doing films in the West. His experience in making action scenes still shows under all the gimmicks.
What’s Bad: The movie relies too much on a strange narrative gimmick that only hinders its enjoyment and makes the entire experience quite strange and boring.
Loo Break: Sadly, there are several. The movie’s gimmick makes certain scenes feel completely unnecessary.
Watch or Not?: There are better John Woo films out there to watch. Sadly, Silent Night doesn’t make the cut as an easy recommendation.

John Woo is one of the best to ever do it. And by "it" I mean "make some of the greatest action movies you'll ever see." Woo pioneered the gun-fu subgenre of Hong Kong films and his work became internationally recognized in the process. It was only a matter of time before America, and Hollywood came calling. Sure enough, Woo finally made his way to Hollywood in the 1990s. Now, after some time away, he's back in the Hollywood groove with "Silent Night," a dialogue-free action pic about a silent man seeking bloody revenge. With the release of "Silent Night" now here, you may be wondering: how do Woo's Hollywood films stack up? Which is the best? Which is the worst? Well, you've come to the right place. So grab two guns, unleash the doves, and get ready to read our official ranking of John Woo's Hollywood films, including "Silent Night.

John Woo is talking up the legacy of his 2002 WWII drama “Windtalkers.”
The acclaimed action director revisited the film in a wide-ranging New Yorker interview marking his first U.S. film in 20 years, “Silent Night.” Woo addressed how studio MGM let him reign free on “Windtalkers,” which reunited him with “Face/Off” actor Nicolas Cage. The film follows a Marine (Cage) who is assigned to protect a Navajo code talker (Adam Beach) during the Battle of Saipan.
“The studio, MGM, let me do what I wanted to, especially if I wanted to make changes,” Woo said. “At the beginning, I argued quite a lot with the writers. They didn’t want to change their original idea, which was to follow one character’s painful inner struggle.”
He continued, “Cage was pretty much like a John Wayne type, but I wanted to change the movie to be more about friendship. I wanted...

John Woo is perhaps the greatest action director of all time. No one can shoot action as kinetically as him, and his style paved the way for everyone from Sam Raimi to The Wachowskis to Chad Stahelski, whose John Wick movies are a love letter to the movies Woo made with Chow Yun-Fat. With his comeback movie Silent Night getting good buzz and hitting theatres on December 1st, John Woo recently sat down with The New Yorker for an extensive, wide-ranging interview about his life and career.
Of course, the magazine couldn’t help but ask Woo for his thoughts on superhero movies, with the legendary director coming down firmly on team Scorsese, who’s been outspoken about his dislike of the genre. “I’ve never liked watching movies with big special effects or anything based on comic books. Adam Beach must leave his family in a desperate attempt to protect them in an exclusive first look at “Exile,” which you can watch above.
The trailer lays out the high concept. Ted Evans is being menaced by a man connected to a prior sin. He previously was in a fatal auto accident while driving under the influence. The man whose family he killed is about to be released from prison. The deal: “You leave your family, or I kill your family.” However, his wife isn’t so willing to give up on him. A series premiere, a long-awaited season return and a bevy of great movies are new on HBO and HBO Max this month. May 1 marks the series debut of “White House Plumbers,” the new limited series from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel that chronicles the Watergate break-in and fallout. That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.
The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.

The Oscar season may not have officially begun, but three talented leading men — Nicolas Cage (“Pig“), Matt Damon (“Stillwater“) and Winston Duke (“Nine Days“) — are all delivering awards-worthy performances in three very unconventional movies. Likely to face an uphill battle on the awards circuit, the right campaign and support from critics could help them gain some traction in the awards game.
It’s time we all have a serious talk about Nicolas Cage. It should be no surprise that he delivers a beautifully affecting turn as Rob, a truffle forager who hunts the person who stole his beloved pig, and yet, some still find Cage more worthy of memes than trophies. The 57-year-old actor’s overstuffed filmography is full of both box office successes (“The Rock” and “Face/Off”) and critical misfires (“Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” and “Windtalkers”). The International Association of Media Tie-In Writers (Iamtw) recognizes the wide range of authors who work on media tie-ins. Often overlooked, these writers craft exciting tales using beloved characters and settings of franchises including the likes of Mike Hammer, Firefly, Murder She Wrote, James Bond, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Star Trek. These stories can be original adventures, or adaptations of movies or television episodes. They include all genres and a wide range of lengths and formats.
To recognize the accomplishments of the unsung authors in this particular field, the Iamtw sponsors the annual Scribe Awards. This year’s awards have six categories to highlight excellence in Novels, Short Stories, Audio Dramas, Young Adult/Middle Grade works, and Graphic Novels.
Congratulations to all the nominees.

Things have been pretty quiet on the movie front for a while, given the pandemic, but this weekend marks a major upswing in content for cinema lovers, with multiple brand new releases available. Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island is unfortunately not up for streaming at present, but Netflix Original Da 5 Bloods, the latest effort from the Oscar-winning Spike Lee, is. For family audiences, there’s also Artemis Fowl over on Disney Plus, which was originally set for a theatrical release back in May.
Even outside of these new films though, there’s plenty of fresh titles coming to the various streaming services this weekend, from classic movies, recent hits, new TV series, old TV series, etc. Whatever combination of services you’re subscribed to, you can fill your whole weekend watching what’s coming to Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, HBO Max and the rest over the next few days.

There are a lot of popular streaming platforms to choose from, but Hulu has always stood alongside Netflix as one of the two essentials for households looking for diversity in content. In the past, they’ve been known for focusing more heavily on newer television content, while Netflix has always offered a larger selection of sought-after films. But now, it looks like Hulu’s June lineup is only going to continue the service’s recent trend of providing high quality movies to bring itself in line with their competitor.
First up, you can get wholesome with Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which tells the story of an investigative journalist who learns some hard life lessons from one of television’s most beloved personalities. June 2020 is set to be a big month for the whole streaming Disney family. Not only will ESPN+ have the entirety of The Last Dance on its servers for late-adopting sports fans to catch up with, but Disney+ will be premiering its long-awaited Artemis Fowl film. Over on its biggest streaming service in Hulu, however, Disney is taking things a bit more slowly.
This month finds only three major original releases for Hulu. Animated medieval comedy Crossing Swords premieres on June 12, then Ya love story Love Victor and cooking show Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi both arrive on June 19. All in all, that’s not a bad haul for originals for the typically slow summer months.
June 1 sees a pretty impressive crop of movies coming to Hulu’s library as well. October Sky, The X-Files (1998), and Casino will all be ready to stream at the beginning of the month.

Exclusive: Actor and Native American advocate Sonny Skyhawk and actor/writer Jaime Gomez (Nash Bridges) have teamed to launch the production shingle Native Spectrum, which will focus on traditional and contemporary stories based on Native American and Latinx folklore and culture
Native Spectrum will concentrate on television projects and will later expand into feature films. Two projects currently on their list of pitches include two one-hour dramas. One is set in the multi-billion-dollar Indian gaming industry and the other drama focuses on the murder and disappearance of Native American and Indigenous girls and women.

Sound Mixer Richard Bryce Goodman Reflects on His Career, From ‘Death Race 2000’ to ‘Ford v Ferrari’
When Richard Bryce Goodman was a young man, his wide-ranging interests included photography, music and philosophy, but it was a present he received while growing up in Baltimore that seems to have had the biggest influence on his career arc.
“I had a darkroom from age 12 where friends and I used to make our own R&b mixes off Wwin radio with a fancy tape recorder that was given to me by a rich uncle,” says Goodman, an Academy Award-nominated sound mixer.
Goodman’s early training was eclectic. In the late ’60s, he attended London’s Slade School of Fine Art, gaining insight into moviemaking from the institution’s in-house film legend, Thorold Dickinson. Returning stateside, he earned a degree in fine art and philosophy from Bucknell University in 1970. He began shooting documentaries around the college’s art classes using a Bolex camera stocked with film short ends from the psych department.

The 1997 action movie “Face/Off,” which starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, is getting a reboot.
Paramount has hired “22 Jump Street” screenwriter Oren Uziel to pen the script with Neal Moritz producing. David Permut, who was a producer on the original film, will executive produce. No actors or director has yet boarded the reboot.
John Woo directed the original movie from Mike Werb and Michael Colleary’s script. Travolta and Cage played FBI agent Sean Archer and terrorist Castor Troy, respectively, who each took on the other’s physical appearance via surgery in a complicated story triggered by the assassination of Archer’s son by Troy.
“Face/Off” also starred Joan Allen, Gina Gershon and Alessandro Nivola as Troy’s brother. The film, which carried an $80 million budget, was a solid performer with a $245 million global gross. Woo went on to direct “Mission: Impossible II,” “Windtalkers” and “Paycheck” in the next six years.

For fans of action films, the 1980s was a golden age, beginning with all-time classics such as, First Blood and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and on and on with epics like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Escape From New York, and Robocop. This amazing period also marked the rise of incredible action stars like Schwarzenegger, Norris, Willis, Ford, Cruise, and Murphy -- many of whom are obviously still working today (for better or worse).
Yet, the 80s was also an incredible decade for action directors, such as James Cameron, John Carpenter, Richard Donner, and George Miller. However, one of the most unexpected and influential action directors of that era was Hong Kong's John Woo, whose distinct visual style somehow managed to stand apart from his Western contemporaries. Woo was an innovator, a director who borrowed elements from different genres, resulting in something new, unique, and unmistakably visceral. A Hong Kong-based...

George R.R. Martin has a pretty hot brand right now. Game of Thrones has been absolutely killing it on HBO ever since its premiere back in 2011, and while one could chalk that up to the copious amounts of sex and violence, there’s no doubt that the series has its foundation in amazing characters and storytelling. Given the success of this series, as well as Martin’s experience in television as a writer and series executive producer, it was only a matter of time before some of his other properties got the small screen treatment.
TheWrap is reporting that Syfy is developing a supernatural thriller based on Martin’s novel Nightflyers (Which was adapted into a film back in 1987). In case you have no idea what the book is (which I’ll assume is most of you), the outlet describes it as follows:

Screen Daily interviewed famed Chinese director John Woo to discuss his admiration for films during the Tokyo International Film Festival. Woo is known for directing action-octane films such as "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled" with actor and frequent collaborator, Chow Yun-Fat.
Woo migrated to Hollywood in the mid 90's and directed a variety of action-thrillers such as "Broken Arrow" with John Travolta and Christian Slater, "Face/Off" with Nicholas Cage and John Travolta, "Mission Impossible II" with Tom Cruise, and "Windtalkers" with Nicholas Cage and Adam Beach.
Woo has since moved from the action films of Hollywood and focused on directing other passion projects such as the two-part historical epic, "Red Cliff" and "Red Cliff II." Woo was asked if he would ever return to Hollywood with the director stating, " I have never left. I still enjoy working with Hollywood. Having long had a reputation as an "enfant terrible" in his youth, Slater surprised me somewhat with his calm, measured demeanor and thoughtful outlook. He was promoting his well-reviewed, but ultimately short-lived, TV series "My Own Worst Enemy," which we discussed a bit, but Slater was eager to reflect on his entire career and life, which he did with aplomb. "Somebody help me..." Second part? But we haven't even seen the first! Indeed, true. Eventually one day it will get a Us release. John Woo has been in China directing a massive two-part epic called The Crossing, billed as the "Chinese Titanic" - you will see why with this trailer. There are some shots right out of James Cameron's Titanic in this. The film is set during the Chinese Civil War in the 1940s, following three couples from different backgrounds whose are affected by the sinking of the steamer Taiping, which was traveling to Taiwan and led to the deaths of over 1,500 people. Zhang Ziyi, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Song Hye-kyo, and Huang Xiaoming star. It looks like Woo went all out, hopefully for the best. I'm curious to check this out. Here's the new official trailer for John Woo's The Crossing, found on Deadline's YouTube: The Crossing is a...

It was with great sadness that we learned yesterday of the death of composer James Horner at just 61 years old. Horner died in a plane crash, piloting a small aircraft that went down a day ago in California. The composer is a multiple Oscar winner, taking home Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for Titanic, marking just one of his many collaborations with filmmaker James Cameron. All told, Horner was nominated by the Academy ten times, with various other nominations and wins to his credit. He was a well respected musician and giant in the industry, so he will certainly be missed in a big way. Horner was cited by the Academy for his work on not just Titanic, but also Aliens, An American Tail, Apollo 13, Avatar, A Beautiful Mind, Braveheart, Field of Dreams, as well as House of Sand and Fog. All of the...

Jared Leto was notably absent from the cast photo taken during the table reading of David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" script this week. Today, David Ayer followed up that posting with a shot of Leto (with his dyed green hair) in a shot reminiscent of the cover for Alan Moore's iconic "The Killing Joke" comic.
