In the usual Miramax way, approx. 20 minutes were cut from the English dubbed version. Removed were many of Gérard Depardieu's scenes as well as all references made to Cleopatra's nose.
The entirety of the movie's Hungarian dub was written in playful, rhyming prose, with a host of newly added puns.
For the film's DVD release in 2005, a director's cut of the film was released, lasting 6 minutes, also known as the "chabatized version".
The restored version of the film, released theatrically and on Blu-ray in 2023, is slightly longer and contains a few scenes deleted in post-credit.
