In this film, comedian Eddie Izzard plays a male English soldier who cross-dresses. A few years earlier, in Eddie Izzard: Dress to Kill (1998), Izzard had discussed being a transvestite in the British Armed Services, suggesting: "The main element of attack is the element of surprise. So what could be more surprising than the first battalion transvestite brigade?"
Matt LeBlanc filmed his role while Friends (1994) was still shooting, and had to fly back and forth between sets once per week in order to do both projects at the same time.
First-billed Eddie Izzard was known at the time this film was released for her standup performances in which she discussed cross-dressing and identifying as a "male lesbian." She has since come out as transgender.
Due to the filming of this movie Matt LeBlanc missed Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitts wedding - "I missed when she married Brad [Pitt]," he said. "I was in Austria working. She called me, and she was like, 'You're really not coming to my wedding?' And I was like, 'I asked them if they could change the schedule. I would fly and clap and fly out.' And they said, 'We can't do it. It's too tight.' It was a small-budget movie in Austria you've never heard of. Probably should have left anyway, but s- happens. What are you going to do?"
