Revenge! They say it’s best served cold, but sometimes a giant steaming pile of revenge can be really satisfying. The female revenge story is a subgenre that emerged from the old exploitation film days. The woman who is wronged in some way, usually by evil men, who then has to work her way back to enact revenge upon her tormentors always seems to end satisfyingly as they get their comeuppance. Let’s check out some of the best female revenge films where badass women put their enemies in their place.

About a year ago, we heard that We Are Still Here and Mohawk director Ted Geoghegan‘s supernatural horror film Brooklyn 45 had gone into production and would be released through the Shudder streaming service when it was ready to make its way out into the world. Brooklyn 45 has since been completed, but before it heads to Shudder it’s going to have its premiere at the SXSW film festival this Sunday, March 12th. Ahead of that premiere, a poster for Brooklyn 45 has arrived online and can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Scripted by Geoghegan and his late father, a disabled Air Force Veteran-turned-history teacher, Brooklyn 45 has the following synopsis: Friday, December 27, 1945. Five military veterans gather in the ornate parlour of a Brooklyn brownstone. Best friends since childhood, they’ve reunited to support their troubled host – but when his invitation for cocktails turns into an impromptu séance,...

Charlotte Rampling self-identifies as a “prickly” person. “Like a hedgehog or porcupine, you don’t necessarily get too close,” she told IndieWire.
You’d know that from any number of her roles. The 77-year-old, English-born, Paris-living actress has worked in the European arthouse for more than half a century, turning out kinky roles in divisive, sensuous period pieces like Liliana Cavani’s S&m concentration camp psychodrama “The Night Porter” and Luchino Visconti’s depraved Weimar tableau “The Damned.” But she’s also brought hard-shelled wit to character studies like François Ozon’s “Under the Sand” and “Swimming Pool,” Andrew Haigh’s “45 Years,” and Lars von Trier’s “Melancholia.”
In that film, Rampling played one of her prickliest characters, a callous and ambivalent mother who prefers to blithely take a bath during her daughter’s (Kirsten Dunst) wedding reception rather than make small talk or give toasts with the guests downstairs.

Germans are ready to buy
CANNES -- Germany's economy may still be spluttering, with unemployment at record highs and growth almost nonexistent, but after a couple years of quiet, German independent distributors are again pulling out their checkbooks at the Cannes market, snatching up several high-profile Hollywood projects. Andreas Fallsheer's fast-growing Falcom Media Group grabbed Gregory Nava's crime drama Bordertown, starring Antonio Banderas and Jennifer Lopez, from Mobius International. The Swiss-based group also grabbed Mobius' .45, a modern Bonnie and Clyde tale featuring Milla Jovovich. Falcom also inked a deal to take German distribution rights for the horror title Rise, starring Lucy Liu, from Mandate Pictures. Babel, the Brad Pitt/Cate Blanchett/Gael Garcia Bernal omnibus feature from Mexican helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, was bought by Berlin-based Tobis Film from Summit Entertainment.

Busy Tyler adds Lifetime, indie roles to resume
Aisha Tyler has added to what already has been a very busy year for her with roles in a Lifetime movie and an indie feature. Tyler, recurring on CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Fox's 24 and a lead in CBS' John Gray pilot, is set to star opposite Raven Symone in the Lifetime film tentatively titled For One Night and has joined Milla Jovovich, Angus Macfadyen and Stephen Dorff in Mobius Entertainment's indie .45. For One Night, slated start to production next month in New Orleans, centers on a black teenager (Symone) who, with the help of a newspaper reporter (Tyler), braves decades of segregation to stage the first interracial high school prom in the history of their small town. The project is produced by von Zerneck/Sertner Films in association with RES IPSA Media Inc. Written and to be directed by Gary Lennon, .45 is described as an erotic drama set in the seamy and edgy underworld of New York's Hell's Kitchen, where a Bonnie and Clyde-like couple turn on each other. Tyler will play a court-appointed social worker who interacts with Jovovich's character. Filming is scheduled to begin this week in Toronto. CBS' untitled John Gray drama pilot, in which Tyler stars opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, is based on James Van Praagh's psychic work. Tyler's casting in the project, which is in contention for fall, stems from her talent deal with the network inked in October (HR 10/19). Tyler is repped by Endeavor, ROAR and attorney John Meigs.

Jovovich, Fehr parlay 'Evil' streak
In the wake of a No. 1 debut by Resident Evil: Apocalypse in the boxoffice rankings last weekend, two of that film's stars are moving on to new projects. Milla Jovovich -- who toplined Screen Gems' Evil as well as its 2002 predecessor as the head of a military team battling virus-spawned mutants -- is in negotiations to star in .45, an indie about a married couple involved in small-time crime in New York's Hell's Kitchen during the mid-1970s. Oded Fehr, who co-stars in the second Evil movie, has signed on for John Gatins' Dreamer at DreamWorks.
