You Better read the book. Although most of the personages are well defined, the film fails when trying to catch the essence of which it is the world that inhabits Héctor Belascoarán Shayne. Son of Irish of folk singer and of a Spanish anarchist and living in Mexico....he finds himself like ghost lost in the jungle of the Mexican capital. He infect us with his melancholy, sadness and deep passion by Mexico while he tries to stop at the same time a Serial Killer. He becomes in the process the architect of his own conscience. Unfortunately this does not reach to being reflected in this film, that if it nevertheless leaves a visual image us of who is the definitive Héctor. This role was interpreted later by two actors (Alexander Camacho and Sergio Goyri) but without being able to erase the memory of Armendáriz as Héctor Belascoarán Shayne
