Dilip Kumar was signed for the lead role, with Manoj Kumar in the second lead. When Rajesh Khanna replaced Dilip Kumar, idea to remove Manoj Kumar and replace him with another actor was decided. Rakesh Roshan was signed for his role.
Rati Agnihotri walked out of the film because she did not want to play Rajesh Khanna's sister.
After 7 years Shakti Samanta and Rajesh Khanna worked toghether again.
Shakti Samantha had promised Madhavi a role in the film. Later Jaya Pradha was signed for the role.
Jaya Pradha's voice was dubbed by a dubbing artiste.
