Producer Johnnie To was profoundly moved when he watched the preliminary edited version of 'Spacked Out' in the editing room with director Lawrence Ah-Mon. Johnnie To was particularly impressed with the surreal treatment of the abortion scene. After watching it, he immediately held a meeting with Lawrence, asking him to prepare for another teenage film right away. Lawrence then called Assistant Director Andy Tse (Four Tse Liu-Shut), who was a crucial on-site executive screenwriter for 'Spacked Out.' Johnnie specifically requested him to be the screenwriter for the new film. Thus, Lawrence and Andy teamed up to create their next teenage film, 'Gimme Gimme' (2001).
