When the producers could only pay him £10-15,000 for his role in the film of his father-in-law Vrdoljak, Goran Visnjic refused to receive any payment. In return, he became one of the producers of the film so he owns a part of the rights for the film.
The movie was filmed at the same time as, and is a distillation of scenes from, the Croatian TV series bearing the same name, Duga mracna noc (2005). The TV series, consisting of 13, forty-five minute long episodes, premiered on HRT (Croatia's national television station), at 9 PM (Croatian time) on Sunday February 6, 2005. All 50 episodes will air on consecutive Sundays at 9PM, on HRT.
