Prolific reality TV producer Troy DeVolld, who worked on Basketball Wives, Dancing With The Stars and Hollywood Game Night, died Oct. 14 in Casselberry, Fla. He was 53.

His passing was confirmed by the DeGusipe Funeral Home in Florida.

An Ohio native, DeVolld studied fine arts at Flagler College and Full Sail University. His TV career began in 2000 with a gig on MTV’s Fear. He then began working almost nonstop in the unscripted space on shows like The Osbournes, The Surreal Life, House Rules, The Bachelor, Flipping Out, Who Are You Wearing, Paris Hilton’s My New Bff: Dubai, and She’s Got The Look.

His work on the Basketball Wives franchise began in 2010; he served as a supervising producer and a co-exec producer on both the original and Basketball Wives: LA. He went on to produce the Hollywood Game Night, Dancing with the Stars, Hollywood Divas, and Virtually in Love.

Matthew Perry asked his assistant to “shoot him up with a big one” on the day of his untimely death last October, new documents reveal.

Authorities have now brought charges against five individuals, including three doctors, so-called Ketamine Queen Jasveen Sangha and Perry’s live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, as part of an investigation that revealed a “broad underground criminal network” in connection with the Friends star’s death from ketamine.

Following a press conference on Thursday, further details of Perry’s final days came to light, including thousands of dollars in illegal ketamine deals over the course of about a month.

Perry had been receiving ketamine treatments from his regular doctor to treat depression, but wanted to access more than the prescription would allow, The Associated Press reported of unsealed federal documents. He and Iwamasa met Dr. Salvador Plasencia on Sept. 30, a doctor who obtained ketamine through another doctor, Mark Chavez.

Among the five people arrested in the Matthew Perry overdose death investigation were a local physician and the actor’s live-in assistant. Then there was Erik Fleming, listed as the TV star’s “acquaintance,” and charged as a middleman in the deadly ketamine scheme.

The Department of Justice described Fleming’s activities as that of a drug dealer, coordinating with Perry’s assistant and Jasveen Sangha, the so-called Ketamine Queen. According to the DOJ, “after discussing prices with [co-defendant Kenneth] Iwamasa, Fleming coordinated the drug sales with Sangha, and brought cash from Iwamasa to Sangha’s stash house in North Hollywood to buy vials of ketamine.” On Oct. 24, 2023, four days before Perry’s death, Fleming at one point informed the assistant that the ketamine was “on its way to our girl,” in reference to Sangha.

The San Quentin Film Festival — the first-ever film festival held inside a prison — has named its inaugural industry jury, which includes Jeffrey Wright, Billy Crudup, Mary-Louise Parker and more.

The festival, taking place Oct. 10 and 11 at the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center in northern California, will highlight short films and pitches from current and formerly incarcerated filmmakers in front of a jury made up of entertainment industry artists and executives. Separately, an “inside jury” made up of currently incarcerated people will judge narrative and documentary feature films about the prison experience made by filmmakers who have never served prison time.

Actors on the industry jury include Wright, Crudup, Parker and Kathy Najimy.

Financial matters have taken center stage in the nasty divorce between former pro football player Kroy Biermann and reality TV star Kim Zolciak.

Biermann, 38, recently filed a financial report with the court, with a spreadsheet attached that detailed Zolciak’s alleged extravagant spending while they were married. The report claims that Zolciak, 45, spent over $600,000 at luxury stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Ave, Chanel, Versace and Agent Provocateur between 2016 and 2023.

Additionally, Biermann’s filing states that Zolciak made substantial investments in Bitcoin and the lottery, with expenses that totaled $161,912.87 in 2021 and an additional $65,966.95 in 2022. These financial revelations come as a response to Zolciak’s request for privacy and a motion to compel Biermann to provide financial documents. Biermann challenged her privacy demands and noted her public updates on social media, which range from cosmetic procedures to Botox injections. He also alleged that Zolciak has cash stashed away in a separate bank account.

Exclusive: Cris Abrego, the longtime Banijay U.S. chief who recently set up his own production group with Eva Longoria, is expected to become the new boss of the TV Academy.

Deadline understands Abrego is the frontrunner for the position. The election to name the next boss is set to be held next week but sources have told Deadline that Abrego is already being talked about by some as the next Chairman and CEO of the Primetime Emmys operator.

He is expected to replace Frank Scherma, the co-founder of RadicalMedia, who was “termed out” after running the TV Academy for the past four years.

Abrego’s appointment would further raise the profile on unscripted television at the Emmys as he is the first Television Academy chair to come from the reality TV world.

His appointment is not a major surprise as Abrego has been involved with the Television Academy for a number of years.

Cris Abrego, quite fittingly, has had one of the more surreal career trajectories in entertainment. Banijay, where Abrego serves as chairman of the Americas, has made a strategic investment in the company. Abrego will remain in his executive role with the French production giant even as he devotes his time to building Hyphenate.

There’s change on the high seas of Banijay.

Christian Sarabia, President of 51 Minds Entertainment, the production company behind Bravo hit Below Deck, is stepping down from the Banijay Americas-owned business.

Julie Pizzi, President of fellow Banijay-backed firm Bunim/Murray, will add overseeing 51 Minds to her responsibilities running the Real World producer.

It is the latest change for the group; earlier this year, Cris Abrego, who founded 51 Minds, stepped down as CEO of Banijay Americas with Ben Samek taking over that role and Abrego remaining as Chairman. There’s been much speculation about Abrego’s own role in recent months.

Sarabia has been with 51 Minds for many years, having produced series such as The Surreal Life and Flavor of Love. He took the reins at the company in 2014 after Abrego became one of the top execs at the-then titled Endemol North America and the departure of co-founder Mark Cronin.

The second season cast of the reboot of The Surreal Life has been announced. The new incarnation of the celebrity competition series now airs on MTV.

The cast of season two features Tyler Posey, Macy Gray, Chet Hanks, Ally Brooke, O.T. Genasis, Kim Zolciak, Johnny Weir, and Josie Conseco, per Deadline.
