The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Blue Archive.
This movie is actually based on the true story that actually happened exactly as the way described in the film. However, it is only half true because the movie only tells the first half of the story, but not the other half, which the Chinese government would rather not let the public know:
The scientists who helped the communists eventually got the archives stayed in China after the revolution, but they died in the consequent political movement, namely, the Cultural Revolution.
The film crew originally decided to make the complete story in two parts, with second parts describing the what happened in the post revolutionary era, but due to the fear of governmental censorship, Part II was dropped.
Audience should not blame the film crew because after all, this was 1980, the first year of reform, China just came out of the Cultural Revolution less than half a decades ago and people still had to be cautious, but the semi-biographical novel about those scientists the original part II was based on was able to be published.
