Hi, Everyone,
I have just watched the DVD of L.A. D.J. and I will send my bouquets to all the cast and the crew. This one is worth watching.
The actors are all likable and we probably have met someone like each of these people at some point in our lives. I like the mom and the security guard at the disco door and the nurse and the deejay on the Razor scooter and all the grandmas and kids and creeps who show up in Tom and Tim's lives. Tim and Tom might be the Laurel and Hardy of the late night music scene. They have a smiling ineptitude that gives those of us in the audience a chance to see how smart we are. We know who will fall in love with whom before they can figure it out.
Steve McQueen's first real movie success gave no hint of the parts he would play in later years. His debut starring role was in "The Blob." It was a good movie but Steve quickly did totally different roles. That might be the case with Tom and Tim. They might do more zany comedy or either of them might find a bigger role just beyond the rainbow.
Hollywood will not roll out a red carpet for independent filmmakers these days. Maybe Tim and Tom will find a red linoleum leading into the back door of some awards show that recognizes what this movie represents. This is real movie making that could catapult these two past the Hollywood glamour boys of today.
Excellent photography, casting and background locations. There are a lot of little laughs if you look for them or listen for them. All the cast members do a great job, which means there was good direction happening too.
