Let’s face it, no family is dysfunctional quite like the Bluths. The cult classic sitcom, Arrested Development, first aired in 2003 and redefined the chaotic comedy with its mix of zany characters and absurdly tangled storyline. From a banana stand with “always money in it” to endless chicken dances, the show has given us unforgettable moments and a memorable cast that felt more like a bizarrely entertaining extended family than fictional characters.
Leading the madness was Jason Bateman as Michael Bluth, the so-called “responsible” one trying to hold his trainwreck of a family together. Then there’s Will Arnett as Gob, the magician with an ego bigger than his tricks, and Portia de Rossi as Lindsay, the ultra-glamorous activist with questionable motives.

During the October 25th episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew ran off the stage during her interview with Henry Winkler. Barrymore was interviewing Winkler when she began to cough uncontrollably. She stood up and ran from the couch while she tried to recover. Henry continued to film while Drew was off stage. He took questions from the audience about his days on Arrested Development.
Drew Barrymore Runs Off Set
Drew Barrymore was interviewing Henry Winkler when she began to cough uncontrollably. During this, Drew left the set while the cameras were still rolling. Henry wasn’t phased in the least. He continued the interview, letting the audience ask the questions. He explained that his dyslexia makes reading scripts rather difficult. Because of this, he often improvises. Henry did a great job interviewing while Drew was gone.
Barrymore did eventually return to set and she apologized to Winkler. He was not having any of that.

The Big Bang Theory had its fair share of epic guest stars, but none quite as ironic as Elon Musk. When the tech billionaire waltzed into a soup kitchen with Howard, he was a prime addition to the nerdy sitcom. But, as the episode unfolded, fans caught an eyebrow-raising subplot: one of the guys gets a little too curious about Penny’s life, breaching her privacy in a way that Musk himself would probably roast online.

It’s like the show served up a double helping of irony on a silver platter—privacy concerns, tech moguls, and all the juicy drama of roommate snooping. In true Big Bang fashion, it was a moment where reality hilariously collided with fiction!

Before web series and streaming platforms took over, it was shows like Arrested Development where all the rage was. With six Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe to its name, Mitchell Hurwitz’s show is truly one of a kind. While picking one aspect of the show as a favorite seems practically impossible, we believe the cake goes to Ron Howard and his role as the all-knowing narrator.

From summarizing the plotlines to mocking the characters, Ron Howard kept the show alive throughout its seasons. While everyone has unique inspirations behind their ideas, the director shocked us all by revealing the very unlikely area of the entertainment industry he got his motivation.

The Office casting director Allison Jones revealed that there were quite a few other major actors in the running to play Michael Scott in the hit NBC comedy series.
Jones stopped by Office Ladies, the podcast hosted by sitcom stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, where she gave insight into the casting process behind the show that still maintains a cult following.
“I remember vividly the first meeting we had with the network when [creator Greg Daniels] had a list of names, and they were like, ‘Let’s try Philip Seymour Hoffman,’ and then, ‘Let’s go for Paul Giamatti or whatever,'” Jones said. She then added that she was “so jaded” she didn’t think either actor would be interested in it because “nobody did TV. Comedy was the bottom of the barrel.”

HBO has greenlit the limited series “Dtf St. Louis” with Jason Bateman and David Harbour set for two of the lead roles, Variety has learned.
HBO has given the series a seven-episode order. The show was originally announced as being in development back in 2022 with Harbour and Pedro Pascal attached to star and executive produce. The project was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article “My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation.”
However, according to an individual with knowledge of the project, the creative direction of the series evolved over time and is now based on a wholly original idea with no connection to the original article. In addition, Pascal is no longer attached in any capacity. He remains in business with HBO, though, with the second season of “The Last of Us” set to debut in 2025.

On October 28, 2000, kids all across America tuned into the Nickelodeon Snick programming block to watch a new horror movie called "Cry Baby Lane." As bowls of microwaved popcorn flowed over, living room lights went down, and children gathered in front of the television, no one could have predicted that everyone watching would become a part of history. Directed by Peter Lauer, "Cry Baby Lane" is about two brothers — the feeble Andrew (Jase Blankfort) and massive jerk Carl (Trey Rogers) — who love hearing ghost stories from the undertaker, Mr. Bennett (Frank Langella).
One night, the undertaker tells the story of a local farmer whose wife gave birth to conjoined twins (the movie uses the insensitive term "Siamese twins" because it was the year 2000), with one of the babies being noticeably evil. The farmer kept the twins locked up in an attic and away from the public eye before they eventually got sick and died together.

Adam Ray is bringing his Dr. Phil parody to Netflix with a wild new special in which the comedian — dressed as the mustachioed talk show host — will come face to face with Dr. Phil himself.
Debuting on Netflix on Nov. 19, the untitled “Adam Ray’s Dr. Phil Comedy Special” will also see Ray-as-Phil interview special guests including Patton Oswalt, Jay Pharoah and “Gollum,” and get to know the audience through silly questions and games.

The Netflix special marks the first time the real Dr. Phil has sat down in person with Ray.
The comedian will next take “Dr. Phil Live!” to the New York Comedy Festival on Nov. 15, where he will be headlining at the Beacon Theatre.

Netflix has a holiday gift for fans of trash cinema. Jaume Collet-Serra, the director of "Non-Stop," is returning to the skies for a new action film, this one entitled "Carry-On." Collet-Serra is a maestro of this particular genre, having devoted a good chunk of his career to making ludicrous Liam Neeson action thrillers that are often ludicrously entertaining, and this one looks like it's cut from that same cloth.

Sherwood Schwartz's 1964 sitcom "Gilligan's Island" was a pop-cultural powerhouse, attracting a mass audience larger than any of the CBS executives expected. While many critics and audience members criticized the show for being silly, unrealistic, and simplistic, it nonetheless lasted for three hit seasons, and was put into eternal syndication, staying alive in reruns for decades. What's more, the series warranted numerous TV movie sequels and spinoffs, including a 1981 TV movie wherein Gilligan (Bob Denver) and the other castaways met the Harlem Globetrotters -- called, helpfully, "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" -- and an animated series wherein the castaways became stranded on a distant planet (!). Yes, "Gilligan's Planet" is a thing.
The spinoffs retained all the original cast members, with the exception of Tina Louise, whose character, Ginger, was played by various other actors. Curiously, the Globetrotters movie was the last time an original "Gilligan's Island" project graced the screen.

"Bones" — the procedural drama centered around forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and her FBI counterpart Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) ran from 2005 to 2017, spanning nearly 250 episodes and 12 full seasons. But will it ever come back for a revival?
It seems like everything is getting a reboot or revival now. Earlier this year, they reinvented "Mean Girls" as a musical starring Reneé Rapp, and shortly after that came out, Jake Gyllenhaal headlined a remake movie of the '80s classic "Road House" for a new generation. In Ryan Gosling's (delightful) action comedy "The Fall Guy," Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, who played the lead roles in the original series, show up in cameo appearances at the very end of the film. Throughout the past few years, everything from "Cobra Kai" to "Fuller House" to the long-awaited fourth season of "Veronica Mars" has reunited original cast members for another go-around. So why not "Bones?...

Is Curb Your Enthusiasm the first sitcom about an asshole? Jeff Schaffer says no.
In the academic sense, Curb Your Enthusiasm is about as textbook a comedy of manners as we’ve ever seen on television. For 12 seasons and 24 years, Larry David bristled against social norms and challenged conventions of polite society to the delight of cantankerous Curb fans everywhere, highlighting the absurdity of modern society as he sees it. However, according to entertainment journalist Joel Stein in his new essay for The Wrap titled “Bad Manners,” David and Curb Your Enthusiasm also carved out a new subgenre within the umbrella of the comedy of manners: the comedy of the asshole.
According to Stein, Curb Your Enthusiasm entered the zeitgeist during a unique period of TV history when the antihero main character was quickly becoming the most popular character archetype, just as crime dramas such as The Sopranos and The Wire...

Despite all the bizarre allegations and the complicated history surrounding Arrested Development, one of television’s most underrated sitcoms, Jason Bateman, the show’s lead, has no regrets about his time on set. He reflects fondly on the experience, embracing the chaos that came with it.

I will not be going into whether comedian Tim Dillon’s Netflix standup special, titled This is Your County is actually unscripted or not. It does claim to be. The thing here is that it works in a way that you wouldn’t imagine. Not only is it unscripted, it also looks and feels like a talk show with a live audience, guests, and Dillon himself as the host. The country in the title is the United States of America, of course. Dillon’s set is pretty much looking into the current state of the greatest country in the world, but from a humorous perspective. Let us look into the different segments of it one by one, without further ado.
What is William’s secret?
You know you’re in for something different the moment Dillon announces he’s going to bring on random guests who’ll talk about uncomfortable truths.

Henry Winkler is looking back at one of the first moments he met Robin Williams, and it’s definitely a memorable one.
The actor recently made an appearance on the Fake Doctors, Real Friends With Zach and Donald podcast and recalled Williams’ Happy Days audition for the role of Mork, an alien from the planet Ork who visits Earth, after the original actor left the show.
“When Robin came to audition, now it’s Wednesday. We start Monday morning at 10 on the soundstage. That is at, 9, we read, 10, we’re on the soundstage,” Winkler said. “Nobody wanted to play this alien from outer space.”
But then, “a young, very shy, very quiet man comes with the casting director,” the Arrested Development alum recalled. And just like that, Williams switched from his reserved personality, and “then this human being picked up the script. When he opened his mouth, it was like...

William Shatner is most known by people as the man who led Star Trek in its early years. From 1966 to 1994, Shatner played James T. Kirk and did so brilliantly. A tentpole character of the franchise that had fans flocking to it for decades. Now, in the twilight of his life, it looks like he's finally stepping back from leading man roles. At least on television.
Despite being 93, Shatner is still going. He's voicing the character Keldor for Masters of the Universe: Revolution and recently starred in the 2021 film Senior Moment. He's not just still acting but he's serving as a host for a variety of programming as well. Like with his newest series, The UnXplained: Mysteries of the Universe.

Does anyone remember when the first season of “Arrested Development” beat out the final season of “Sex and the City” at the Emmys? Or the iconic moment when “Moonlight” snatched the Oscar for best picture from “La La Land” after a historic mix-up? Awards shows are no stranger to stunning upsets, and this year, FX’s “The Bear” finds itself among the ranks of notable jaw-dropping moments, losing the Emmy for outstanding comedy series to HBO/Max’s “Hacks.”
Despite its loss in the top category, “The Bear” shattered the all-time comedy series record with 11 wins, a monumental feat that only makes its three losses — each to “Hacks” — in lead comedy actress, writing, and, of course, the big prize, feel all the more jarring.

Before "Austin Powers," "Johnny English," and "Top Secret!" there was "Get Smart," the 1960s spy sitcom that mined the genre for laughs when the James Bond and "Mission: Impossible" franchises were still in their infancies. Co-created by comedy legends Mel Brook and Buck Henry, "Get Smart" ran for five seasons from 1965 to 1970, earning seven Primetime Emmys and plenty of other accolades along the way.
Stand-up comedian Don Adams starred as Maxwell Smart, the sometimes inept top-secret agent who regularly held the fate of the world in his hands ... and often almost fumbled it. By his side was the beautiful, super-cool Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), who loves Maxwell despite his clumsiness and penchant for messing up missions. The central trio was rounded out by Edward Platt's The Chief, the supportive leader of the intelligence agency Control, which employed both Agent 99 and Maxwell.

Jam-packed with his familiar brand of vulgar yet verbose stoner humor and free-flowing riffs on movies—especially his own—the vibes are certainly off the charts in Kevin Smith’s The 4:30 Movie. Set in the summer of 1986, the film chronicles an initially magical day in the life of a Smith stand-in, Brian David (Austin Zajur), after he invites a girl from school, Melody Barnegat (Siena Agudong), to their local movie theater. But a raucous comedy of errors ensues thanks to Brian’s slacker friends, Burny (Nicholas Cirillo) and Belly (Reed Northrup), and a revolving door of local weirdos played by Smith’s Irl famous friends, turning the theater into a lawless asylum.
The 4:30 Movie doesn’t so much find Smith in his wheelhouse as it does in some kind of Synecdoche, New York-style Tower of slacker-movie Babylon. That, though, doesn’t translate to comedy gold, let alone a cohesive film.

If you were to take the wide-eyed wonder of a Steven Spielberg, the impish mischief of a Joe Dante, plus the vibrant visuals of prime Pixar and somehow blitz them together in a Magic Bullet blender, the resulting concoction might well resemble Sketch, an audaciously gonzo first feature by Seth Worley.
Although the tween tale may be admittedly lacking in singular originality, it more than compensates for all its borrowed bits with a Skittles-hued sugar rush of a live-action romp, with an unusual take on family therapy in which a 10-year-old girl’s grief manifests in violent drawings come to life.
Working with an engaging, spirited cast and a talented visual effects crew, Worley, a VFX aficionado whose prior directorial output has been mainly in the field of corporate-branded videos, turns out a hard-to-resist, all-ages crowd tickler that seems certain to land distribution on the heels of its Toronto International Film Festival bow.

One of the first films that made me fall in love with cinema was Steven Spielberg’s enduring “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” While I’m most certainly not alone in this, that it’s stuck with so many is just more of a testament to its greatness. With its ragtag group of scrappy, resourceful kids navigating the perils of growing up and the somehow equally relatable challenges of caring for a kindly otherworldly visitor that the government is after, it’s a film that soars every time you watch it.
There’s a good chance that Seth Worley, writer and director of the monster movie “Sketch,” was similarly impacted by Spielberg’s work. His rather fun feature debut offers its own compassionate and frequently clever romp that, while not as good as “E.T.” by any stretch of the imagination, has plenty of that same sense of charm hiding away.

Television history is littered with failed sitcoms headlined by comedians that audiences seem to love — in the right show. Turn up in a stinker, however, and the shows are gone in a blink. Matthew Perry was great in Friends, but no one wanted Mr. Sunshine. Audiences adored McLean Stevenson in M*A*S*H but said goodbye to Hello Larry. Jon Cryer scored with Two and Half Men but was booted from his Extended Family this year.

The Netflix algorithm is a presumably all-knowing yet unknowable piece of math that can make kings and tumble empires. It has allowed shows like "Arrested Development" and "Lucifer" to get a second chance at life after their original networks canceled them. The algorithm has made Netflix shows into huge worldwide phenomena, like "Squid Game" and "Stranger Things," but it has also made big productions disappear into the ether as no one knows when they get released, let alone watch them — like "The Irishman."
No one knows whether a show will be a hit or not, as even if one tops the charts upon its release, there is no guarantee that it will remain there and prove itself worthy of more episodes. I laugh when I hear people talk about how “The Bear” is a sure thing winner for Best Comedy Series and that it’s such a lock nothing whatsoever can derail it. Ha! Ha I say! Oh, it’s naturally the heavy favorite with its 23 nominations and has remained the overwhelming frontrunner clear through Emmy season, all right. In the Gold Derby combined Emmy odds, it’s running away with this race. The same is true of ““Shōgun” for drama after its giant haul of 25 Emmy bids. And nothing can beat “Baby Reindeer” for Best Limited Series, right? Jessica Gunning (“Baby Reindeer”) is a shoo-in for limited supporting actress, isn’t she? And no one could possibly beat Jamie Lee Curtis (“The Bear”) for comedy guest actress – could they?
But if Emmy history has taught us anything, it’s that upsets happen, even when it comes to shows and people considered locks.

Seinfeld was the biggest sitcom on television during the time it aired on NBC. Created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, the show About Nothing was loved by everyone and it made the careers of Jerry Seinfeld who played himself, Julia Louis-Dreyfus who played Elaine Benes, and Jason Alexander who played the universally loved George. The series mostly followed four people hanging out and going on weird and absurdly comedic adventures. Film fans were shaken earlier this year with the immensely sad news of actor Carl Weathers’ passing. The star had been a cultural icon thanks to his immaculate portrayal of Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, as well as his run of action roles in films like Predator and Action Jackson. Weathers had recently been seen as a regular cast member in the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian. On August 29, the actor has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Variety reports on his former co-stars, including Sylvester Stallone and Adam Sandler, paying tribute to Weathers. In February, after the news broke of Weathers’ passing, his Rocky co-star Sylvester Stallone posted a video recalling what it was like to work with him. In his tribute, Sly stated, “He showed up at the eleventh hour with all the attributes: the body, the skill, the soul and the acting chops.

His journey has been remarkable and even inspirational for many, but behind the scenes, he’s faced many challenges. Without Chubbs Peterson, Happy Gilmore could never have become a golf champion, but without Adam Sandler, the late Carl Weathers’ Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony would feel incomplete.
On February 2, 2024, Weathers passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In the following weeks, seemingly the entire entertainment industry took turns eulogizing the brawny, macho, mustachioed action star and former NFL player, but for all the mentions of Apollo Creed, Predator and Weathers’ contributions in the Star Wars universe, perhaps the most underappreciated aspect of Weathers’ career in the days following his death was his impeccable comedic acting ability, as demonstrated in films like Sandler’s Happy Gilmore.
Today, the Hollywood Walk of Fame will honor Weathers with a posthumous star placed on its iconic sidewalk stretch, and many of Weathers’ old co-stars and collaborators have submitted tribute videos for the ceremony as they remotely pay...

Carl Weathers was an unknown actor on a cattle call audition for a movie when he was introduced to the screenwriter — also a struggling nobody — and was told to do the scene with him. The writer mumbled his way through the lines and afterwards, Weathers, nervous that he blew his shot, blurted out, “If you get me a real actor, I could do a lot better.”
Turns out the writer was the actor. But fortunately, Sylvester Stallone was not insulted, and Weathers got the role of Apollo Creed, changing movie history, and his life, forever.
“He showed up at the eleventh hour with all the attributes: the body, the skill, the soul and the acting chops,” Stallone said in a video tribute after Weathers’ death in February at the age of 76. “I never could have accomplished what we did with ‘Rocky’ without him. He was magic.”

A laughing moment of embarrassment is a tough one to pull off, mainly because there is a psychological component to watching TV.
Yes, there is more than just a serial relationship with your favorite programs. There is vicarious embarrassment or second-hand embarrassment — call it what you will, but it definitely exists.
You know you’re experiencing it when you just want to bury your face in your hands or walk out of the room as some mortifying scene or another plays out on screen, even when you’re laughing.
(NBCUniversal/Peacock Screenshot)
The reason you’re embarrassed? Because the scene is intrinsic to you in some form or fashion. What embarrasses you about a moment in time on the small screen might not feel the same way to other observers.
