James Mangold is making Swamp Thing for Warner Bros and DC – but he’s insistent that the film will be standing alone.

While he might have a highly-touted Bob Dylan biopic releasing this week, director James Mangold has otherwise been engaged in a frenzy of franchise filmmaking of late. There was last year’s Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny and next up, he’ll be turning his attention to a Star Wars prequel film which is said to chart the formation of the Jedi Order.

After that, the filmmaker will be turning his attention to a Swamp Thing movie for Warner Bros that will add to the growing number of entries in the new DC Universe.

Mangold has been talking just a little about that Swamp Thing project which presumably is some years away from production, given that any given Star Wars film doesn’t exactly whizz through the Lucasfilm system these days.

After having brought the iconic franchise to an end, James Mangold is looking back on Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny's underwhelming reception. The 2023 movie saw Harrison Ford return as the titular adventurer who, after his goddaughter gets wrapped up in the quest for the eponymous device, must race against time to find it before a former Nazi scientist and his mercenaries do. Steven Spielberg's four Indiana Jones movies have all suddenly disappeared from Disney+ worldwide. Released in 1981, Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark introduced Harrison Ford's intrepid archaeologist to the world, and he would subsequently return in four sequels, three of which Spielberg would direct. If you want to watch the classic “Indiana Jones” films on Disney+, you are out of luck right now. Currently, all the films have been removed except for Disney’s film “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

The franchise landing page on Disney+ does not include “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” “Indiana Jones the Last Crusade,” or “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

Now, all that is available is Disney’s film and two specials about the film.

The movie, like all of Spielberg’s productions, is shrouded in secrecy, but it is an “event film,” so think special effects and vast scope. It’s based on a story that Spielberg conceived and boasts a screenplay from David Koepp, who wrote “Jurassic Park,” “War of the Worlds” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Universal Pictures will release the film wide on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Blunt is coming off an Oscar-nominated turn as the alcoholic wife of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster “Oppenheimer,” as well as “The Fall Guy,” an action-comedy that was well-received by critics, but failed to ignite at the box office. She’s no stranger to massive productions, having previously starred in the likes of “Edge of Tomorrow” (going toe-to-toe with Tom Cruise) and “Into the Woods.

Star Wars creator George Lucas was fêted with an Honorary Palme d’Or at this evening’s Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony.

In a poignant moment, Lucas was joined on stage by by his longtime friend, mentor and collaborator, Francis Ford Coppola who presented the award. On Lucas’ arrival, the crowd rose to their feet and gave the filmmaker a rousing five-minute standing ovation.

Coppola said on stage: “Congratulations George, not only are your many friends and I proud of you, but the whole world of cinema is too.” Lucas described the award as a “great honor” and thanked Coppola and the festival.
