A man... but no woman (chabadabada, chabadabada...)
An unexpected Lord of the Rings to be watched before getting married... There is something verging on Hitchcock's black and white movies, the way of following the main character with an objective eye and the use of repeated downward shots. In addition, an outstanding performance of the male protagonist whose casual everyday behavior looks so real. I like the well-built plot with this uncommunicative bachelor revealing his dark side in a small typical French village. A strange Dom Juan, keen on collecting women's shoes and more considerate towards frogs than princesses ! The scenery includes an isolated gloomy villa by the sea and a local dance hall which help to create a kind of oppressive atmosphere getting thicker and thicker as the story unfolds. All in all it's a patchwork of innuendos and realistic scenes, such as the unforgettable table tennis game in the shed. Add to this a creepy final twist. Pretty good for a first short.
