Madhavan and Jyothika play a couple of young people at odds with their parents' decision to marry them off. Jyothika's character has ambitions of going for a college education and Madhavan's likes his free life in the city too much to get tied down. Madhavan has good flair for comedic as well as serious acting and he is well utilized: Especially the scene where he and Jyothika meet at the bridge over the railway where he expresses his concern with minimum dialog. Jyothika's talent is also well exploited as she plays the serious young girl; and it complements successfully Madhavan's portrayal of the lighthearted young man. I gave it a 9 because there are weaknesses and exaggerations in the ruses the couple use to put the inevitable off. But overall a well done and a very watchable movie!!
Ganga (played by Jyothika), having scored second in her state in school board exams, wants to go to Chennai to study engineering. Adhi (Madhavan), from the same village, is currently in Chennai studying law, and enjoying his freedom from home. His father and her father greatly esteem each other, and arrange a match between Ganga and Adhi. The young people are in agreement that they do not wish to marry, and secretly work together to stop it. Their attempts fail, and they have just decided that perhaps marriage isn't such a bad fate when a terrible misunderstanding occurs between the two fathers and the wedding is called off. Ganga goes to Chennai to study, and Adhi runs into her there. To their surprise, they fall in love, but the enmity between their fathers is too great.
This movie is a delightful mix of drama, romance, and comedy. All the acting is solid, and Jyothika and Madhavan have excellent chemistry together. With one exception, the music is enjoyable, and there are two particularly nice dance scenes. The plot, though mostly predictable, is engrossing and entertaining. Overall, this is a charming film, and one that I will certainly watch again.

One of the memorable movies of my college days. A typical love story that was inspired by an earlier movie Alaipayuthey directed by Mani Ratnam in 2000. This film is also co=written by Maniratnam with Azhagam Perumal as director ( we have not heard from this director after this).
One of the movies which helped establish Madhavan and Jyotika's career in the early 2000s. Average but watchable movie with a few good songs and Background score by Karthik Raja. The lead pair's performance is quite new and unique for that time in 2001. But overall an average movie that will not win accolades.
