Steve Carrell is best known for his turn as Michael Scott in the NBC sitcom The Office. The Golden Globe award-winning actor has also starred in a string of commercially successful comedy movies. However, despite Carrell’s comedic chops, the actor could not save one of his most expensive comedy movies from flopping hard at the box office.

In 2007, Carrell starred in the 2007 fantasy comedy film Evan Almighty, a sequel to the commercially successful 2003 comedy Bruce Almighty. However, the sequel could not create a splash at the box office like its predecessor. Moreover, its high budget had already doomed the movie before its release. Here is why Carrell might want to erase it from his filmography.

Ryan Gosling might have undertaken various roles across different genres but fans love him best for his dramatic portrayals in the romantic genre. From the critically acclaimed The Notebook to Crazy, Stupid, Love, Gosling is Hollywood’s typical ‘nice guy’ (and an actual one at that), who seems to shine best in romantic dramas, whether they be comedy or downright agonizing.

One of his most excruciatingly painful yet beautiful romantic films was La La Land opposite Emma Stone. A bittersweet film, some viewers have gone as far as labeling it a ‘horror movie’ for the emotional rollercoaster it was. However, many seem to forget Gosling’s one Indie film that is so brutal that it even makes his Oscar-winning film look like a joyful dream in comparison.

In a world where patriarchy and male chauvinism dominate the social and other spheres of our lives, Ryan Gosling wears his masculinity on his sleeve. But unlike others or most of his contemporaries, the star is a feminist through and through, and is not afraid to acknowledge it. An ‘ultimate ladies’ man’, the actor’s boyish good looks, charismatic personality, and versatile acting skills have made him popular among fans.
Ryan Gosling in The Nice Guys | Warner Bros. Pictures
While he has had his fair share of chauvinistic hardcore roles, the actor has lately been famous for his unconventional masculine roles. His answer to the question— ‘what is the scariest animal’— only proves why he is so popular among the ladies and men.

Emma Stone isn’t just another pretty face in Hollywood. After announcing her arrival as a teenager with Superbad and Zombieland, Stone took her first steps into the big league with films like Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Help, and The Amazing Spider-Man franchise with Andrew Garfield. She also created history by winning 2 Oscars before the age of 36 and joined the likes of stars like Hillary Swank and Jodie Foster.

The Giornate Degli Autori — the independently run event that takes place alongside the Venice Film Festival and is often referred to simply as Venice Days — has unveiled the lineup for its 2023 edition (also it’s 20th).
Among the 10 titles world premiering in competition is Elise Girard’s drama Sidonie in Japan, starring Isabelle Huppert as a French writer mourning her husband’s death while on a book tour. Out of competition, Coup! — a satire set during the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic and starring Peter Sarsgaard and Billy Magnussen — will bow, while special events include the world premiere of This Is How a Child Becomes a Poet, a short from Portrait of a Lady on Fire director Céline Sciamma (who was previously president of the Venice Days jury). There will also be a special daylong event in honor of late Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée, including a screening of his 2005 drama C.R.A.Z.Y.

Barbie may be everything, and Ken is just Ken, but what about the people in the Real World they meet along the way? Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, based on the popular dolls, is a hyper-stylized take on the Mattel toys that sees the titular doll journey from Barbie Land to the Real World on a quest of self-discovery.
This movie definitely looks the part, but it wouldn’t be what it is without its incredible all-star cast full of award-winning actors and familiar faces. Here’s what you need to know about the Barbie characters and the actors who play them.

Every couple of months, at a venue somewhere in Michigan – the Old Town Playhouse in Traverse City, say, or the State Theater in Bay City, the singer Judy Harrison will head backstage to her dressing room, and begin her transformation.
She fixes her make-up. She puts on a black fringed top, a black skirt, big belt and cowboy boots. Over her own long, light hair, she places the short, black wig she bought from a professional wig store in town, and runs her fingers through its faint waves.
“The wig is truly the thing that takes you there,” Harrison says via video call. “The very first time I did this, I walked out with the wig on, and I don’t know if the band knew who I was. I was so different to them, it was like they weren’t even looking at Judy.”

Hello and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen podcast, I am your host Valerie Complex. Today’s guest is Harry Shum Jr. and we’re going to go through the highlights of his acting resume beginning with his first gig in 2003 on an episode of Boston Public.
I remember seeing him in Glee, but that heartthrob moment toward the end of Crazy Rich Asians gave me pause. I thought, “Man! He’s so much better for Astrid than her ex-husband!” It was a small cameo role but it made an impression on the audience, and helped to grow anticipation for the sequel. Cra was a massive hit and features a historic all-Asian cast, and was nominated for a slew of awards including at Critics Choice and the SAG Awards.
Shum was in the Netflix film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II – The Green Destiny, the sequel to the Academy Award-winning martial arts film set 20 years later.

Carden, who most recently starred in the Amazon series A League Of Their Own, after her well-known role as Janet in The Good Place, will be joined Katie Finneran (Noises Off, Promises, Promises on Broadway), Scott Foley (Scandal, The Unit) and Chris Sullivan (This is Us, Chicago on Broadway).
Previews for the play at the Hayes Theater start March 25, with an opening night set for April 20. Rachel Chavkin, the Tony-Award winning director of Hadestown, directs.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is one of the best movies of 2022 and rightly hailed as a career coronation for its lead, Michelle Yeoh. But the performance of Ke Huy Quan as Waymond Wang is also extraordinary, especially considering he hadn’t acted in over two decades.
Quan quit acting due to the tenuous position of Asian performers in Hollywood but felt inspired to return after the runaway success of another film that starred Yeoh.
Still, the road to his casting in Everything Everywhere hinged on something he had no control over. Quan recently explained in an interview that the road to Waymond was paved with Andrew Yang memes.

Ke Huy Quan is rightly receiving widespread praise for his performance as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once. This isn’t the first time he’s been a part of a successful blockbuster. Quan also played memorable parts in two of the biggest movies of the ’80s, both involving Steven Spielberg.
Quan’s career did not pan out as he had hoped following those films. But his impact and relationship with the director remained strong after they worked together.

Thanks to the example set by her, country music is a different business for women because of Loretta Lynn, according to artists like Brandi Carlile. While reflecting on Lynn’s legacy, Carlile noted that some of her friends in the industry seemingly paid it forward to her from the kindness they’d received from the icon. And she wanted to share her gratitude for that.

Your local Asian American sitcom funnyman veteran Randall Park is graduating from acting on TV to directing his own feature-length film! Shortly after "Everything Everywhere All at Once" dominated the 2023 Oscar nominations, Park's directorial debut "Shortcomings," made its humble premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
The timing here is miraculous considering the subject material of Park's film. "Shortcomings," based on the 2007 graphic novel of the same name (its author Adrian Tomine returns to write the screenplay), centers on a group of young Bay Area Asian Americans. Coincidentally, the film opens on a spoof of "Crazy Rich Asians," for which Park's protagonist, Ben, a film school dropout and art-house manager expresses a large distaste. Ben's girlfriend, Miko (Ally Maki) tries to comfort Ben by arguing that the rom-com could be the jumping-off point for something fresher and "artsier" down the line.

These days everything and everyone is “iconic.” But here, at the center of five rich and unrushed episodes, is the real deal. As he approaches his 90th birthday, the composer of such immortal numbers as “Crazy,” “Night Life” and “On the Road Again” is still writing songs, still playing to concert crowds. Delving into the incomparable songbook, directors Thom Zimny and Oren Moverman show how Willie Nelson broke the country mold and transcended genre boxes, again and again. Their authorized biography — the musician’s wife and his manager are executive producers — is a love letter, to be sure, and like Nelson himself it doesn’t dwell on negativity, but there’s nothing simplistic or naive about it. Willie Nelson & Family is a portrait of a man who has made music and lived life on his own terms, in good times and bad.

It took 59 years for Michelle Yeoh to land her first lead role in a Hollywood film. And it’s taken 95 years for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize a woman who identifies as Asian in its best actress category.
On Tuesday morning, the Malaysian-born performer, who became a movie star in Hong Kong before successfully crossing over to the global stage, received her expected Academy Award nomination for her multifaceted role in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once. It is the first career Oscar nod for the beloved icon, 60, known stateside for her supporting (yet scene-stealing) turns in such films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies and Crazy Rich Asians. Common will be making his Broadway debut in Stephen Adly Guirgis’ play Between Riverside and Crazy. The rapper will be playing the role of Junior and the cast is set to start performances on November 30 at Second Stages Hayes Theatre. Following the announcement, Common shared his thoughts on being part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play.
“This has been a dream of mine for a very long time to act in a play, to do theater, and to be a part of a theater company,” he shared on Instagram. “I am supremely grateful and overwhelmingly inspired to be a part of Between Riverside and Crazy. I can’t wait to begin this process and to live this journey.”
The rapper continued: “You never could have told me that little south side boy that he would be on Broadway. When I got this role, I called my mother like I had gotten my first record contract.

Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast was number one on Spotify in its first 24 hours last week, overtaking usual U.S. frontrunner The Joe Rogan Experience.
The premiere episode featured Serena Williams, and it was announced that Markle will be joined on tomorrow’s show by Mariah Carey.
That’s a powerhouse guest list for a launch, and a cover story for The Cut today revealed more star power to come. Constance Wu, Issa Rae, Lisa Ling, Margaret Cho and Ziwe are among the upcoming guests the outlet lists. The piece also reveals more about the concept behind the show’s name and how it relates to many standard characterizations of women.
Per the Cut:
The rest of the episodes, she’ll dig into labels like Old Maid, Dragon Lady, Bimbo, Crazy, Angry Black Woman, Bitch, and Slut (Will Meghan say slut? “Oh my gosh. That makes me so uncomfortable.”)
The title of the Williams episode was “The Misconceptions of Ambition.”
Deadline reached out to Spotify and will add any comment received.
Produced by Archewell Audio in partnership with Spotify’s Gimlet Media, Archetypes arrived nearly two years after Markle and husband Prince Harry, under their Archewell Audio banner, signed an exclusive multiyear deal with Spotify.
Another arm of Markle’s mutimedia enterprise with her husband is Archwell Productions, which has a deal with Netflix.
As Deadline reported exclusively in May, her animated series Pearl was quietly dropped by Netflix as part of the wave of cutbacks going on at the streamer.
“There’s not much you can do when a company and a division changes their slate,” Markle said about the cancelation. “And there’s also not much you can do when, even if they think the project is great, the media will report it as though it was only my project.”...

For the last two decades, Cinco Paul (along with writing partner Ken Daurio) was best known for writing big-deal family movies your kids were begging you to take them to. But all the while he had a musical percolating in his head, partially based upon a what-if set-up involving the backpackers of “An American Werewolf in London” entering a musical-scape instead of a horror-scape. And thus, 2021’s hit AppleTV+ series “Schmigadoon!” — starring Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key in a far less furry, significantly more comic version of the “London” scenario — was born.
Also starring a veritable who’s who of Broadway talent and borrowing liberally from the Great American Musical heyday of shows like “The Music Man,” “Carousel” and “The Sound of Music” among a great many others, “Schmigadoon!” proved popular enough for fans to demand a second season, which just wrapped and will be entitled “Schmicago!” Showrunner Cinco Paul...

Working in the Carson, California, studio from which Top Dawg Entertainment was launched has become something of a rite of passage for new artists on the label. After building the studio in the back of his unassuming suburban home around 2004, founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith rounded up four of the most-talented MCs in the L.A. area — Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul — and brought out the best in them. Nearly two decades later, Tde’s first female rapper found herself in the wood-paneled, windowless cave known as the House of Pain.

In an interview with The New York Times, author Kōtarō Isaka was asked about how his story — which was originally published in Japan in 2010 and had its English language debut in print last year — has been adapted by Hollywood.
According to the Times, the author regards his characters as “ethnically malleable,” and maintains his original Japanese setting and context do not matter as much, as the story’s ragtag crew of killers are “not real people, and maybe they’re not even Japanese.”

The Thanksgiving Play, which had its Off Broadway world premiere in 2018 and has become one of the top 10 produced plays, will make its Broadway debut in spring 2023 in a staging by Tony-winning Hadestown director Rachel Chavkin.
The Second Stage Theater production, set for the Hayes Theater, will make FastHorse the first female Native American playwright ever produced on Broadway.
“Larissa FastHorse’s unique voice deserves to be heard on the Broadway stage and I’m very excited for her biting satire, The Thanksgiving Play, to have the larger audience it deserves,” said Second Stage President and Artistic Director Carole Rothman.
Described as a satirical comedy, The Thanksgiving Play follows a troupe of well-meaning theater artists who “dream of creating something revolutionary: a culturally sensitive, totally inoffensive Thanksgiving school pageant that finally gives a voice to Native Americans. Finding said Native Americans… isn’t so simple. And that’s when things start to get absurd.

There are 574 federally recognized Native American tribes in the United States. South Dakota is home to nine, the majority of which lie on the western half. Along the Nebraska border and the southern tip of the Badlands sits the Pine Ridge Reservation, one of America’s largest. At 2.1 million acres, the vast, breathtaking prairie landscapes and infinite horizon of rolling hills might distract from the fact that it’s also among the poorest counties in the country.
Riley Keough was working on American Honey in South Dakota when she met a couple locals who’d been cast as extras: Bill Reddy and Franklin Sioux Bob. They hit it off and immediately became friends outside production. Bill and Frank invited her to their home, Pine Ridge, and Keough and co-director Gina Gammell—who started a production company, Felix Culpa, together in 2018—quickly fell in love with the people and the land.

If Larry Clark had ever found his way onto the Pine Ridge Reservation, he probably would have come away with a film like “War Pony,” which observes its young Native American characters hustling, skating and stealing drugs from otherwise distracted adults. Presenting such behavior without judgment, first-time directors Gina Gammell and Riley Keough developed this unvarnished portrait in collaboration with their actors, capturing something at once tragic and true about these kids, who are torn between Oglala Lakota traditions and the consumer culture around them.
A few years older than the hero of Chloé Zhao’s recent “The Rider” — a movie this one can’t help but resemble, at least superficially — Bill (Jojo Bapteise Whiting) is like the slacker version of that American dreamer. He siphons gas from strangers’ tanks and goes around asking people if they want to buy a stolen PlayStation. He already has two kids by two different women.

Avantika didn't get the traditional American high school experience, but she did get to dabble in parts of it while filming her new Netflix film, "Senior Year," in Atlanta last summer. "I never went to prom," she tells Popsugar. "So it was just so, so amazing and so, so fun to be able to live that out in this movie."
"Senior Year" stars Rebel Wilson as Stephanie Conway, a former high school cheer captain who suffers a head injury and ends up in a coma for 20 years. When she wakes up, everyone else in her life has moved on. She heads back to high school to...

"I want to be like everyone else." "Thank God, you never will." This looks fantastic - time to catch up with it. Samuel Goldwyn Films has secured the rights to (finally) release a film called C.R.A.Z.Y., which first premiered back in 2005. For those that don't know, this was the big breakout film for Quebecois filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée, who unfortunately died late last year. C.R.A.Z.Y. has never been available to watch in the U.S. since its initial festival run in 2005, despite winning tons of awards up in Canada. A young French Canadian, one of five boys in a conservative family in the 1960s/1970s, struggles to reconcile his emerging identity with his father's values. The film also features an extensive soundtrack, featuring artists like David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Patsy Cline, Charles Aznavour, and The Rolling Stones. It stars Marc-André Grondin, Michel Côté, and Danielle Proulx. It's nice to see a...

Jean-Marc Vallée’s 2005 Dramedy ‘C.R.A.Z.Y.’ To Get First-Ever U.S. Release Via Samuel Goldwyn Films
Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired U.S. rights to the coming-of-age film C.R.A.Z.Y., which launched the career of the late Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club), making the film accessible to U.S. audiences for the first time since its run on the festival circuit in 2005. The film will hit theaters on June 3rd, following promotional screenings at prominent LGBTQ+ film festivals across the country.
Vallée’s breakout hit tells the story of Zac a young French Canadian and one of five boys in a conservative family in the 1960s and 1970s. Surrounded by Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and motorbike escapades, Zac struggles to reconcile his emerging identity with his father’s values.
C.R.A.Z.Y. premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2005 and went on to win eleven Canadian Genie Awards. Its success led to Vallée being signed by Nathan Ross—the U.S. talent agent, who would eventually...

Hollywood may have pinned its hopes on Tom Cruise, but the gays stopped waiting for him a long time ago. As blockbusters like “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise earn praise for meager nods to LGBTQ characters, queer audiences have turned elsewhere, finding far better and more diverse representation on TV. Save for a few highbrow exceptions like “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” or “Call Me by Your Name,” queer film has lagged behind television, which moves faster and has more screen time to fill.
That’s about to change this summer, with the premiere of two mainstream gay comedies: Joel Kim Booster and Andrew Ahn’s indie “Pride and Prejudice” riff “Fire Island” and Billy Eichner’s Judd Apatow-produced big-budget rom-com “Bros.” While only one will get a shot at the box office (catch “Fire Island” streaming on Hulu June 3), both...

Spring has sprung. The weather is nice; you can go outside again without a coat; and the days have literally grown sunnier. All things considered, it’s perhaps less a “Netflix and chill” month than others over the long winter. Even so, every once in a while, it’s nice to kick up your feet and watch or discover an old favorite.
For that reason, Netflix has (lightly) updated its content for the month with a small string of new releases, and we’re here to tell you which are the best ones. Enjoy.
Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

In real-life, would an out-and-about player like Ryan Gosling’s Jacob take a sad, lonely, middle aged divorcee like Cal (Steve Carell) under his wing? Probably not. But it makes for a hell of a movie!
That movie is Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s chilled vibes rom-com, Crazy, Stupid, Love. Written...
