Netflix’s Master of None will return in May with a third season that reportedly dials down Aziz Ansari’s on-screen presence, more than three years after the acclaimed comedy’s co-creator was the subject of a sexual assault allegation.
Instead of focusing on Ansari’s character of Dev Shah, the new season will spotlight Lena Waithe’s Denise, Variety reports. A Netflix rep declined to comment.

“Master of None,” the Aziz Ansari- and Alan Yang-created Netflix comedy series, is returning to the streaming giant in May for its long-delayed third season. Netflix has not disclosed the official release date for “Master of None” Season 3 but did include the show in its preview of next month’s new film and TV additions to the streamer. The announcement is a surprise considering “Master of None” has been off the air for four years. The show debuted in 2015 and returned for its second season in 2017.
“Master of None” is reportedly set to return with a five-episode season that will run under the title “Master of None Presents: Moments in Love.” All five episodes were directed by Ansari and written by Ansari and Lena Waithe. The new episodes are believed to focus exclusively on the first two seasons’ supporting character Denise, played by Waithe. The character and Waithe...

“Master of None,” created by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, has had an unusual schedule, with the first season premiering in 2015 and Season 2 returning in 2017 — and now it’s been on hiatus for four years.
The season is expected to be a departure for the show, and it’s believed to focus on Lena Waithe’s character, Denise. Early reports about the third season indicated that Naomi Ackie (“The End of the F***ing World”) would join the cast.
In 2017, Waithe and Ansari won an Emmy for outstanding comedy writing for the Season 2 episode “Thanksgiving,” which focused on her character’s struggles with her family.
