Watch the outtakes during the end credits of the first Anchorman movie and the wildly improvisational nature of the performances is quite clear. No line, it seems, is delivered without Will Ferrell and his pals firing off another fifteen options, just to give director Adam McKay something to work with.
Somehow, an entire plot involving a Dog Day Afternoon-style bank heist was filmed then jettisoned, and that formed the backbone of the semi-sequel, Wake Up Ron Burgundy, which was released on DVD in 2004 (it is now available on Blu-ray as part of the ‘Rich Mahogany Edition’).
Fans of Anchorman 2 won’t even have to wait until the DVD release to slake their thirst for Burgundy, since Paramount are taking the very unusual step of releasing a new extended cut straight into cinemas. When Drew McWeeny sat down with Will Ferrell and David Koechner to talk about "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," quite naturally, the Champ Kind-Ron Burgundy relationship came up. Champ's feelings for Ron were there in the first movie, made more explicit in "Wake up Ron Burgundy" and are even more obvious in "Anchorman 2." As Drew noted, and the actors agreed, the new movie picks up more from the "1.5" movie than from the original. Ferrell noted that he loves both the fact that Kind is really aggressive about it and that Burgundy never picks up on it "he's like 'Why are...

2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," starring Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Steve Carell as an inept but beloved group of local news reporters, wasn't a smash right out of the gate. In fact, it was something of a financial disappointment, especially given the cost and complexities of the movie being a period comedy.
But, like "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" before it, it became a cult sensation as it made its way to home video, and is now endlessly quoted by just about everybody. After years in development limbo, a sequel was finally green lit. And here we are, almost 10 years later, with "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" (for simplicity's sake we're forgoing the pseudo-sequel "Wake Up Ron Burgundy," a kind of alternate sequel that was cobbled together from extraneous bits of footage from the first film and released on deluxe versions of the DVD...

Like many people in my age group, my friends and I fell in love with the first Anchorman film over beery evenings with piles of DVDs. We would then spend hours, days and weeks trading our favourite quotes, implementing them into our everyday lives and generally annoying the hell out of anyone who wasn’t as enamoured with Will Ferrell’s screwball comedy as we were. We’d come to the film as fans of Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch and Dodgeball, but Anchorman felt like the last word in the frat pack’s slew of semi-improvised surrealist comedies. As such, Anchorman will always offer nostalgic pleasures for me, as well as a script that somehow never loses its funniness despite some serious repetition.

It's no secret that “Anchorman” represents an almost free-form comedic enterprise for director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell, able to shift and change form and purpose at will. Some are brilliant, like the alternate cut of the original, entitled “Wake Up Ron Burgundy”), some simply lackluster (the recent Dodge Durango tie-ins), but at least McKay and co. know their property. And as the sequel, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” nears its release next month to hopefully calm our fears once and for all, McKay has recently revealed his next game-changing spin-off. In an interview with Collider (via Av Club), McKay confirmed somewhat accidentally that—on top of building another alternate cut of the sequel possibly even for theatrical release—he is planning another “Anchorman” installment that doesn't necessarily need Will Ferrell involved. “I guess it's out of the bag that Ron has a son? I mean, I guess it's kinda...

By now we all know that when Adam McKay directs a movie, particularly with funny people like Will Ferrell in the lead, he allows for a lot of improv, with some scenes going through 10 different jokes before settling on the one in the final cut. For most movies you'd never want to see the discarded versions of scenes. but Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgundy may be the rare, singular exception. McKay revealed to Empire, while walking them through the latest trailer, that his editor is currently working on a completely alternate version of the movie, made up entirely of alternate takes and jokes. But if you've seen Wake Up Ron Burgundy, the companion film assembled from cut scenes and plots from Anchorman, don't expect the same thing. The second Anchorman cut, which McKay imagines as a midnight movie, would have the exact same plot as the official movie,...

Anchorman 2 director Adam McKay says there's enough leftover footage to cut together an entire second version of the movie. And not just Wake Up Ron Burgundy–style additional material — a full-on alternate version of the movie. "We did so much improv on this one that we can literally replace every single joke in the movie and put in alt scenes and alt improv runs," McKay tells Empire. "I think it would be really funny to put it in theatres for midnight showings. I know that I personally, if I loved a movie and someone told me that, like if Airplane! had been released with all-new jokes, I'd be like, 'you've got to be fucking kidding me!' I’d see it in a second," he says. In addition to all the alternate jokes, a lot of full scenes have been cut as well. "We shot a whole chunk for...

Filmmaker Harmony Korine is reportedly preparing an alternate cut of "Spring Breakers" for distributor A24.
Having already raked in $31 million from a $5 million budget, Korine tells The L.A. Times he's considering a new film using alternate footage shot during production - something akin to the "Wake Up Ron Burgundy" feature made of "Anchorman" off-cuts. Korine says:
"I had this idea. With music remixes sometimes, when certain producers take a song and chop them up and deconstruct them – why not try that with a feature film? Using all different footage, making the same film all over again.
Let’s just say for right now there’ll be a whole alternate film at some point. Maybe on the DVD, maybe on iTunes. It’ll be the first chopped and screwed movie. The film has been sizzurped. The ghost of DJ Screw came back and edited the film. It’s going to...

With the announcement of Kristen Wiig officially on board, the line-up of comedians already slated for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" is starting to make the impressive star-power number of "This is the End" feel small.
The 2004 cult movie "Anchorman" was already chock-full of the best of the best when it comes to comedy with supporting roles from Fred Willard and Chris Parnell to the marquee cameos of Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and many more. There's no telling how much larger the Burgundy-verse will expand — but a boy in polyester suit and mustache can dream, can't he?
Looking at the rogue's gallery of McKay's players, here are some cameos we'd love to see in "Anchorman: The Legend Continues."
1. Danny McBride
Frequent Ferrell collaborator Danny McBride would be a great addition to the cast, having already played friend and foe to the lead anchor. Between Ron Burgundy and Kenny Powers,...

In "Piranha 3Dd," which hits theaters this Friday, the community of Lake Victoria is besieged by another swarm of prehistoric, man-eating fish. In the first film, it was drunken spring breakers who fell victim to the gory attacks. This time around, it's the partygoers at the Lake's "Adults Only" water park Big Wet (which happens to be watched over by stripper lifeguards and celebrity spokesman David Hasselhoff). The piranha invade thanks to an illegal river pump Ok'd by the park's dirtbag owner, Chet, played by none other than "that guy!" comedic scene-stealer David Koechner. (You might remember him as the sleazy Todd Packer on "The Office" or the sleazy boss from "Waiting..." or the sleazy boss from "Final Destination 5.") Koechner spoke with Moviefone and explained how to convincingly portray a slimeball that unwittingly unleashes a stomach-churning monster massacre -- and how to do it while not being distracted by the constant on-set nudity.

Showing up in his crimson suit and gleaming white shoes, Will Farrell crashed Conan O'Brien's show tonight to lay down some some jazz flute riffs and drop the news that he and Paramount Pictures have come to an "understanding" to bring our favourite Anchorman back to the screen. It may end up an utter disaster, but I'll remain hopeful that Will & co. can pull it off. Until then, I recommend tracking down the retailer exclusive Blu Ray that includes "bonus" film titles Wake Up Ron Burgundy, a gloriously insane, nearly avant-garde piece made up of deleted scenes cut into a feature length alternaverse picture. For now, please enjoy the musical and comedic stylings of young Mr. Burgundy below....

Chicago – “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” is one of the most beloved comedies of the ’00s, a film that may have failed to crack $100 million on its initial release but has legions of fans who now know the entire script by heart after dozens of DVD and cable viewings. Like many comedy hits, Adam McKay’s directorial debut has been given the gift set treatment complete with collectibles and hours of special features. It’s exclusive to Best Buy for the next few months but we have a look at it for you now.

Maya Rudolph as Veronica Corningstone
Will Ferrel co-wrote and starred in the hilarious, laugh until you cried and cried until you hurt film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Now it stands as an ultimate cult classic, that is one of the funniest, if not the funniest of the 2000’s, next to The Hangover and Black Dynamite.
Veronica Corningstone is played in the film by Christina Applegate, but from the audition tapes, we can see that Maya Rudolph was a contender for the part to play opposite her SNL alum. The audition tape is pretty funny, and the crew around appears to be eating it up.
Which kind of begs the question, how exactly would the film have played out if Ron Burgundy had this Interracial Love trysts with Maya? Would some of the comedy or ad-libs from the improv have been somewhat sided to yuk it up due to race?...

Anchorman fans, I bring great news! Wait, I have a better way to write this!
Everyone! I Bring Great News!!
Paramount is releasing a new Anchorman Blu-ray, titled “Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy The Unrated ‘Rich Mahogany’ Edition.” What’s the difference between this and the previously released versions (“Unrated, Uncut And Uncalled For” and “Wake Up Ron Burgundy”) of the film? Why, I’m so glad you asked. This version includes more than 50 minutes of extra side-splitting footage. After the break, I bring you the full lay-out of all the new goodies (said new goodies listed in bold). List, bolding, and general information courtesy of The Playlist.

Let’s face it, Wake Up Ron Burgundy was not an adequate sequel to Anchorman, even despite the occasional belly laughs the re-edited (and largely cobbled together) cut of deleted and additional scenes from the original managed to command. But then again, it never aspired to be anything but a tongue-in-cheek re-edit to give fans more time with the Channel 5 News team, so what were we expecting really?
So, news that a real sequel, helmed by Adam McKay, and bringing the original gang of Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell and David Koechner was well and truly on the cards would have been heralded with choruses of “Neat-Oh!” throughout the world. But then, harsh mistress as she is, Fate robbed the whole world of that awesome possibility because of some piffling money worries. A bitter pill to swallow.
But it doesn’t end there. Adam McKay has since...

Dinner For Schmucks star Paul Rudd talks about the possibility – or not – of a sequel to the 2004 comedy Anchorman…
It may not be the most highbrow comedy you can think of, but in terms of quotable lines and laughs-per-minute, 2004's Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy is hard to beat (best line: "I will take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth, out for a nice seafood dinner and never call her again.")
Yet, despite the moderate success of Anchorman, the story about a group of chauvinist 70s news anchors, an announced sequel was scrapped in April, and even the first film's stars agreeing to reduce their salaries in order to get a follow-up made doesn't appear to have convinced Paramount to stump up the requisite cash.
"Steve [Carell] and Paul [Rudd] and everyone agreed to cut their price to come and do [the sequel], which you don't see very often in Hollywood - and cut their price substantially,...
