This weekend on Netflix, Errol Morris‘ “Wormwood“ will unspool a pretty crazy true story that’s set against the backdrop of the United States’ MKUltra program. The secret operation saw the government, conduct secret experiments involving LSD, among other things. The potential of the drug was still being explored at that time, and across the pond, one doctor was also seeing how it could be used to help his patients.

SXSW kicks off today, and the sunny, BBQ roasted city of Austin is probably the perfect place for "Casa De Mi Padre" to making its premiere. The odd ball comedy stars Will Ferrell, Diego Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal, Nick Offerman and Genesis Rodriguez in a riff on Mexican telenovelas, that tells the story of rancher who falls in love with his brother's fiancé and winds up in a war with a drug lord. In other words, it's exactly what you might expect from Will Ferrell except here's the thing -- it's all in Spanish.
And that carries over to the soundtrack as well, which has Christina Aguilera belting out the title track, a few more songs by a variety of players (including two sung by Will Ferrell) and some score pieces by Andrew Feltenstein and John Nau. To give you a bit of flavor of what's to come, Funny Or...

Russell Tovey had a goal to be an action figure. The under-appreciated star may not have caught the eye of Mattel yet, but the wardrobe department made sure his dream came true. Click through for the Being Human-specific accessories it came with. True fact: I have never managed to sit through all of Titanic. Now I feel guilty as Gloria Stuart has passed away at the age of 100. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. This weekend marked the annual Broadway Flea Market, and lots of our favorite stars came out to support the cause, and our friends at BroadwayWorld.com have great photo coverage.

Kalamity finds Nick Stahl as Billy, a man who has recently broken up with his long-term girlfriend and returns to his home town to find that all is not quite right with his best friend Stanley (played by Jonathan Jackson).
A trailer has been released, which although in places makes the film look like a bit of a by-the-numbers thriller, has enough intriguing elements to make us believe this might have something a bit different.
Writer/Director James M Hausler previously wrote and directed Wild Seven and Trip Out, neither of which I have heard of, much less seen so I cannot really comment on his form. Having said that, the cast here is of a generally high calibre and although this one has sat resolutely below the radar, it might yet prove to be a winner.
Kalamity is due in Us cinemas on 22nd October. No word yet on a UK release.

Every week, Film School Rejects presents a film that was made before you were born and tells you why you should like it. This week, Old Ass Movies presents: Fantasia (1940) In 1938, Walt Disney made the incredibly foolish decision to try to increase the waning popularity of Mickey Mouse instead of making a commercial viable short cartoon. Of course, I'm sure at the time like the two would go hand in hand, but ultimately Disney and his team created a short called "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" that ran two minutes longer than the average cartoon and cost $125,000 to produce (Disney had only ever made as much as $60,000 from a short). Realizing that there was no way to turn a profit on the endeavor, a very clever solution was set into motion. They would make "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" part of a much larger feature film, releasing it on the heels of the massive Snow White success. That...
