I'm a big fan of Swedish teen movies, and Sandor slash Ida didn't disappoint me even though it is pretty predictable.
The movie is based on a novel by Sara Kadefors (they are almost the same, you can pretty much say that you've read the novel when you've seen the movie ;) ). The main characters are Ida, a party girl with mentally ill mother from Stockholm and Sandor, shy, inexperienced, ballet dancing boy from Göteborg. They both feel kind of "outcast" in their social circles but luckily they meet each other in a chat room. The consequence is a relationship with many severe problems, consolation and friendship turning into love.
It is basically about teenage life and finding your individuality, so of course it has been compared with Lukas Moodysson's F*cking Åmål. I adore that film and it is better and more original than Sandor slash Ida but I think that the same freshness, the horror and joy of being a teenager and problems that arise when you are trying to find and defend your own path in the world. I felt happiness, joy, pity and sadness, even anger, while watching both of these movies.
Sandor slash Ida is not especially original but I think that it is well made and the actors fit perfectly in their roles. Both Ida and Sandor look, talk, dress and act just like I imagined while I was reading the book.
