"Gladiator II" spoilers follow.
"Gladiator II" arrives in theaters this weekend (read our review), almost a quarter of a century after its predecessor won the Academy Award for Best Picture following its big screen release in 2000. Considering the "Gladiator" sequel that we almost got instead, the existence of this follow-up in the hands of director Ridley Scott again feels like nothing short of a miracle, even if the movie itself doesn't quite measure up to the greatness achieved by the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. You probably know the rest of that heroic diatribe, perfectly delivered by Russell Crowe, by heart.
Anyway, "Gladiator II" acts as a quasi-remake and legacy-quel, focusing on a grown up Lucius, the young boy played by Spencer Treat Clark, the son of Roman Empress Lucilla,...

It seems that every time I look for Star Wars news, there is something exciting to discuss about Skeleton Crew. Whether we're looking forward to Jude Law's foray into another mentor role or listening to Mick Giacchino's other scores, we think we will follow this show with great interest.
Let's dive into what we hope to see in the story of Skeleton Crew.
It was recently observed by Dork Side of the Force contributor Mehwish Mahmood that this coming-of-age story that "The show borrows from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment tales...set in the 80s." It is appropriate that the official trailer hits some of us in the same way as films such as E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and The Goonies.
I once heard that a sign of becoming an adult is that you start understanding where the parents in every kids' adventure media are coming from.

Project Infinity’s Grant S. Johnson (“May December”) has joined Helen Simmons, Christopher Fairbank (“Lady Macbeth”), Tom Stourton (“All My Friends Hate Me”), Jeff Mirza (“Juice”), Olivia D’lima (“The Killing Kind”), Kerena Jagpal (“3 Body Problem”), Markella Kavenagh (“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”), Clare Perkins (“Medusa Deluxe”), Josh Cowdery (“Wrath of Man”) and Varada Sethu (“Doctor Who”).
“Until 100 Nights of Hero, I hadn’t seen a project since Euphoria that so taps into what feels like the next generation of filmmakers, talent, and material,” said Johnson. “While the film appears to be a period drama, it’s not, and is modern in its sensibilities.

The winter edition of London Comic Con went down over the past weekend, with guests like Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa and Good Omens' Michael Sheen in attendance. Also present were several actors from HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon: Clinton Liberty (Addam of Hull), Tom Bennett (Ulf White), Kieran Bew (Hugh Hammer) and Theo Nate.
Liberty, Bennet and Bew play the dragonseeds, peasants who have become dragon-riders after Rhaenyra Targaryen arranged for them to try their luck at mounting the riderless dragons on Dragonstone. (Would that the dozens of other people who took a swing at it had their kind of luck.) Clinton Liberty uploaded a picture of the whole House of the Dragon crew together at the con on his Instagram:

Sometimes, life doesn’t ask us if we’re ready before it throws us a curveball. Indeed, life can change in an instant, but we don’t always grasp how true that is until something unexpected shakes our world. One moment, everything is normal, and the next, you’re dealing with a health scare you never saw coming. That’s exactly what happened to TV presenter Davina McCall.
Recently, she shared some tough news with her followers: she’s undergoing surgery to remove a rare brain tumor. And while the tumor is non-cancerous, it’s still serious, and it has left many wondering, what exactly is a colloid cyst?

Steven Moffat has been writing episodes of Doctor Who for many years now. In the most recent season, he wrote "Boom," in which the Doctor becomes a living landmine, unable to move, on a distant planet. The episode was one of the highest rated of the rebooted season, and on Christmas Day, Moffat returns with his holiday special, "Joy to the World."
"Joy to the World" stars Bridgerton and Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan as Joy, a character who she says will break your heart. Coughlan had previously revealed that Joy is "a determined woman whose life is changed forever when she meets the Doctor." Coughlan unveiled a first look at the new installment earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con. Check it out:

The anticipation for Lulu’s return on General Hospital is high. After a bomb destroyed the Floating Rib restaurant in 2020, Lulu — then played by Emme Rylan — ended up in a coma. Ever since, she has been in a long-term care facility. But the meds she was given took a toll on her liver. So, she underwent a risky transplant operation. The donor, Sam, died from a heart attack while in recovery, and Lulu’s mom, Laura, has been begging her daughter to emerge from her comatose state. Lulu’s return is imminent, and we now know when Alexa Havins will officially take on the role. And it’s just around the corner.
The Time Is Imminent
Because Sam (Kelly Monaco) died and the hospital wants to transfer Lulu back to the care facility, Laura has been at her daughter’s side begging for her to awaken so that Sam’s death would mean something.

Star Trek Origins is a go, and it'll tell the story of the earliest days of the franchise. It'll focus on the developing relations between humans and aliens; most likely focusing on the developing dynamic between humans and Vulcans. It sounds like it may be akin to the old sci-fi film/show Alien Nation in its presentation.
Funny enough, the show version of Alien Nation starred Gary Graham, who would feature on Star Trek: Enterprise as Solar.
With the film now officially in development, who are the people behind the project? Well, the director of the franchise is Toby Haynes, while long-time producer and writer Seth Grahame-Smith will write the story. A story that some fans are nervous about seeing. Yet, should they be?
What have Haynes and Grahame-Smith done and should that give fans pause or excitement about the project?

Steven Moffat, the former showrunner of ‘Doctor Who,’ still plays a significant role in the series’ universe.
He recently discussed his involvement in this year’s Christmas Special titled ‘Joy to the World,’ in which ‘Bridgerton’ star Nicola Coughlan will appear.
The title, a typical Moffat play on words, hints at the character’s name, Joy, and sets the tone for the holiday episode.
In a revealing chat with a regional BBC station, Moffat unveiled some tidbits about the special, marking his 50th script for the show and possibly his last for a while.
He explained that he had no plans to return to ‘Doctor Who’ after his last episode ‘Boom,’ being occupied with various projects like the play ‘The Unfriend,’ the miniseries ‘Inside Man,’ and ‘The Devil’s Hour’—a series produced by his wife Sue Vertue’s company.

AMC Networks has bought out its partner for the cable channel BBC America, the company announced on Friday.
The entertainment giant spent $49 million in cash to acquire full control of the channel from BBC Studios, which held a 50.1 percent stake in the network.
The channel was originally launched in 1998 by the commercial arm of the BBC, then known as BBC Worldwide, which allowed the British public service broadcaster to present its comedies and dramas to a stateside audience while allowing it to tap into various advertising opportunities.
BBC America was originally distributed by Discovery Communications, but the partnership ended in 2014 when AMC Networks acquired a minority stake in the channel. It continued to operate under a licensing agreement with BBC Studios, during which it replaced a considerable amount of British programming with re-runs of “Star Trek,” “Law & Order,...

I did wonder how well Good Omens would translate from book to screen. Well, it worked, and now we’re ready to see how it all comes to an end. Well, sort of. We’re not “ready” ready, but it does need an ending.
This is one of those series that can’t be duplicated. There isn’t anything else out there that matches the energy, but there are a fair few shows that come somewhat close. It all depends on the elements you want to gain from Good Omens in other works.
Here are six shows worth watching.

We often watch TV to escape an increasingly distressing world, but some shows do the opposite.
TV shows can spark real-world change by raising awareness of issues, and some go even further, encouraging viewers to take action for social change.
Television can be an incredibly powerful yet underrated tool for activism. There’s a reason books and shows are banned in dictatorships, and we need to fight hard not to let them be.

I’ve always admired Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone because Serling so masterfully hid social activism in science fiction stories.
In the 1950s and early 1960s, there were some things he couldn’t say outright.
He was a fierce advocate for racial and sexual equality at a time when those ideas were considered taboo to talk about on television.

BBC America now fully and officially belongs to AMC Networks. The company revealed that it acquired the remaining 50.1% of the channel from BBC Studios in a deal that took place last Friday.
The remaining half of the company was paid for in $42 million cash, which was distributed from the savings balance sheet. “We now own 100% of the iconic channel with full operational control, and look forward to what the future holds,” Patrick O’Connell, executive vice president and Chief Financial Officer of AMC Networks, said during the company’s third quarter earnings call for 2024.
O’Connell assured analysts that moving forward AMC will continue to have a “close commercial relationship with BBC Studios” when it comes to the channel, ensuring that the brand and its programming remain at the same caliber. The company will continue to fully consolidate BBC America, as it did prior to this transaction.

AMC Networks has acquired full control of BBC America, its joint venture with BBC Studios.
The U.S. media company has owned a 49.9% stake in the channel since 2014, which it purchased for $200 million in a deal with BBC Worldwide. With this new transaction, which closed Nov. 1, AMC Networks gains the remaining 50.1% of BBC America in exchange for $42 million in cash.
Per AMC Networks’ Q3 earnings results, which were released Friday, AMC Networks “now owns 100% of the BBC America business, with full operational control, and will continue to fully consolidate BBC America.”
Along with “Mad Men,” “The Walking Dead” and “Breaking Bad,” some of the shows AMC Networks is best known for are past BBC America hits and critical darlings, including “Killing Eve,” “Orphan Black” and “Doctor Who” (which now airs on Disney+).
AMC Networks says “future contractual programming commitments to BBC Studios would have been significantly reduced,” had the deal been closed by Sept.

Matt Smith may currently be well-known for his portrayal of Daemon Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, but viewers will forever see him as synonymous with his portrayal of the Doctor on Doctor Who.
Smith portrayed the Eleventh Doctor for three seasons, making just shy of 50 episodes. Alongside David Tennant, his seasons are widely regarded as the golden age of the 'New Who' era of the franchise. Fans are always campaigning for his triumphant return, although Smith himself isn't too interested in reprising his beloved role just yet.
Of course, Smith would go on to grow his illustrious filmography. Notably, he played the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, in Netflix's The Crown. Other big roles include Last Night in Soho and a Marvel debut in Morbius. However, outside of Doctor Who, his biggest role by far is playing Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

The BBC and Netflix have garnered the most nods at the upcoming Royal Television Society (Rts) Craft & Design Awards with 31 and 16 nominations respectively.
BBC series “Lost Boys & Fairies” led the way with four nominations while Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” garnered three.
Other Netflix shows to be nominated including the recently-canceled mythological series “Kaos” and the adaptation of David Nicholls’ “One Day.”
The ceremony will take place on Dec. 2 at the London Hilton.
“On joining this year as chair of the awards I was extremely confident that the calibre of entries would be high,” said Emma Gormley, chair of the Rts Craft & Design Awards. “However, the submissions we subsequently received have exceeded all expectations, further demonstrating how U.K. creatives are global leaders in the television and streaming space. The nominations we have announced today highlight the incredible range of diverse, genre-defining content that is being created by U.K.

David Tennant is a British actor known for appearing in stuff like Doctor Who, Good Omens and the Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter who's become best known in recent years for her anti-trans rhetoric. They're in a feud!
Kind of. The dust-up started earlier this year when Tennant accepted a Celebrity Ally award at the British LGBT Awards. During his acceptance speech, Tennant took aim at U.K. Minister for Women and Equalities Kemi Badenoch, who "has said she would exclude trans women from single sex spaces," per Variety. “I suppose if I’m honest I’m a little depressed by the fact that acknowledging that everyone has the right to be who they want to be and live their life how they want to live it as long as they’re not hurting anyone else should merit any kind of special or award...

Kemi Badenoch has become the UK Conservative Party leader, beating her colleague Robert Jenrick in the final vote, to become the first Black leader of a British national political party.
Badenoch previously engaged in a social media war of words with Doctor Who star David Tennant. She said she “wasn’t afraid of Doctor Who” after the pair clashed on trans rights.
Badenoch won by more than 10,000 votes from a total poll of more than 130,000. Party members across the country voted in the contest, which followed the Tory party defeat in the UK general election this summer, after which defeated prime minister Rishi Sunak said he would stand down.
Conservative Party chairman Richard Fuller introduced the conference to announce the result in London 11am Saturday morning. He stressed that the party, currently in opposition, must unite in addressing the country’s needs. 1922 committee chairman Bob Blackman then announced the winner of the leadership campaign.

We’re also deep-rooted in British independent film again, with a huge look at the UK horror scene, at the funding challenges, and new interviews and insights into what’s happening. Then, The Secret Movie Publicist returns, and tries not to get us sued. Fun times.

Sony Pictures Television has expanded its UK television production by acquiring a majority stake in the new Belfast-based company Hot Sauce. Hot Sauce was founded by acclaimed writers Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, known for their work on BBC shows like “The Salisbury Poisonings” and the police drama “Blue Lights.”

Steven Moffat, known for his work on ‘Doctor Who‘ and co-creating ‘Sherlock,’ recently shared his experiences and views at the Toronto International Film Festival.
With a Christmas special titled ‘Joy to the World‘ on the way, Moffat is set to become the writer with the most episodes of ‘Doctor Who’ under his belt, reaching fifty with this release.
Moffat humorously highlighted the unique aspect of ‘Doctor Who,’ where the lead can be replaced, unlike most other shows. This feature, he pointed out, adds a playful complexity within the community, especially among the actors who have previously played the role.
Each actor, including David Tennant, believes they are the quintessential Doctor, which Moffat finds both amusing and challenging.
During the festival, Moffat discussed the concept of storytelling through reboots, using ‘Doctor Who’s’ regenerations as a prime example. He believes all stories are essentially reboots, where new storytellers reimagine characters and plots in their unique ways.

(Update: we have a new theory that you can find at the bottom of this post.)

Considering Jim Parsons’ career was dominated by his portrayal of Sheldon Cooper throughout the 2010s, comparisons between his The Big Bang Theory counterpart and himself were bound to happen. But opposed to his geek persona in the hit sitcom, Parsons confessed he doesn’t share many of Sheldon’s traits that make him a geek icon.

While the actor nailed Sheldon’s obsession with pop culture, in real life, Parsons and Sheldon’s interests couldn’t be more different.

They didn’t bring trailers or plot hints for season three, but House of the Dragon actors Matt Smith, Tom Glynn-Carney and Fabian Frankel dished a little on their co-stars from HBO’s prequel to Game of Thrones during a panel on Sunday at New York Comic Con, and Glynn-Carney made a confession that drew gasps and laughter from a hall filled with a few thousand fantasy movie and television fans: “I haven’t seen Lord of the Rings.”
Glynn-Carney’s big reveal doubled as a bailout for Smith, who moments earlier disclosed that he’s never watched one of the foundational Star Wars trilogy movies, Return of the Jedi. “Don’t hate me,” Smith jokingly pleaded.
On Comic Con’s last day, the actors playing Hotd‘s Daemon Targaryen (Smith), Aegon II Targaryen (Glynn-Carney) and Criston Cole (Frankel) sat with panel moderator and Happy Sad Confused podcaster Josh Horowitz...

A few months ago, we learned that Doctor Who's future isn't as safe as most fans expected after the BBC and Disney+ teamed up to produce Russell T Davies' splashy new revival of the long-running sci-fi series.
Ratings didn't take off in the way executives expected and it appears Disney+ might be regretting its investment in a show that hasn't been the draw for subscribers the studio initially expected.
Season 2 has already been shot and, last week, Whovians seeming received some good news when Ncuti Gatwa appeared on The Graham Norton Show and revealed, "We did the second series this year, the Christmas special is coming up, and we are filming a third series next year."
While that quote was shared with the press by BBC, when the chat show aired, edits had been made to change the actor's quote to, "We finished the second season earlier this year,...

When Ncuti Gatwa recorded The Graham Norton Show last Thursday, he delivered what appeared to be good news for Doctor Who fans: his third season as the Time Lord would shoot next year.
Gatwa’s comments were briefed to the press by The Graham Norton Show‘s publicity team on Friday morning, but his quote mysteriously changed when the chat show broadcast on BBC1 later that evening.
Speaking to Norton on the famous red sofa, Gatwa originally revealed: “We did the second series this year, the Christmas special is coming up, and we are filming a third series next year.”
But when the show aired, this was edited to: “We finished the second season earlier this year, we’ve got the Christmas episode coming out … at Christmas … But it’s been amazing.”
The Graham Norton Show warns journalists that it is not unusual for certain quotes fail to make the final cut,...

Creep Encounters opens at the site where a UFO has made a crash landing. The government is claiming that it’s a small plane that crashed and is trying to clean things up as quickly as possible. That becomes a bit more complicated when a spider-like alien escapes and bites a few soldiers before disappearing into the woods.
Meanwhile, at nearby Creek High, most of the students haven’t shown up, apparently because their parents believe the rumour going around that it was a UFO, not a small plane, that crashed. As if that wasn’t strange enough one of the teachers, Helen, finds an odd case by the front door. A case that, when science teacher David gets it open contains, among other things,...
