Nigerian film industry veteran Moses Babatope has unveiled Nile Media Entertainment Group, a new production and distribution studio aimed at transforming African cinema.

The company, named after the River Nile, will focus on cultural representation, industry excellence and sustainable practices. As co-founder of FilmHouse Group and managing director of FilmOne Entertainment, Babatope had been instrumental in bringing African films to global audiences.

The Nile Group comprises five subsidiaries: Nile Entertainment, a distribution arm covering local and international markets; Nile Cinemas, offering luxury cinema experiences; Nile Motion Pictures, a production company for Nollywood films; Nile Studio Lab, a film village in Nigeria; and Nile Foundation, the Csr arm focused on community development through film.

Babatope has assembled a female-led executive team for the venture. Biola Sokenu steps in as executive director and group COO, bringing over two decades of experience as a financial controller and production accountant across the U.K.

Exclusive: Swede Caroline, a British mockumentary starring Jo Hartley (After Life) and Aisling Bea from Nicola Pearcey, formerly President, Lionsgate UK & Europe, and now CEO of Picnik Entertainment, has landed both a theatrical and digital release.

Columbus indie pop band Snarls have returned with the new single “Heavy Drinker.”

Netflix has been rolling out plenty of reality shows on its streaming platform. The sad part about this phenomenon is the lack of originality when it comes to the themes of the reality shows. Just several weeks ago, Squid Game: The Challenge was released, which was a reality-game version of a very famous Korean drama. Surviving Paradise on Netflix was devoid of substance. Love is Blind, Too Hot to Handle, Sugar Rush, Glow Up, and Is It Cake are some of the reality TV game shows on Netflix that were hit and miss.

The brand-new Netflix original, The Trust: A Game of Greed, is an addition to the plethora of shows in this genre, but just like before, it has nothing new to offer. This reality game show was released on January 10, 2023, and it is about a trust full of money being offered to 11 participants who come from various walks of life.

Fremantle has launched dedicated free ad-supported streaming television (Fast) channel, The Jamie Oliver Channel, for U.S. audiences on free streaming television service Pluto TV.

The deal was revealed on Wednesday by Fremantle executives, Jens Richter, CEO of commercial and international and Laura Florence, senior VP global Fast Channels, at the Mipcom market’s Fast and Global Summit.

The 24 hour channel features chef and child health campaigner, Jamie Oliver, and his catalogue of cooking shows including “Jamie’s Quick & Easy,” “Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals,” “Jamie’s Super Food,” documentary series “Sugar Rush” and “Jamie’s School Dinners.” In the run up to Christmas, the channel’s “Jolly Jamie Holiday” strand will include “Jamie’s Italian Christmas,” “Jamie’s Quick & Easy Christmas” and “Jamie’s Night Before Christmas.”

Amazon Prime Video launched the latest chapter in its global expansion Thursday night in Nigeria with the flashy premiere of its first African Original, “Gangs of Lagos,” a gritty crime thriller from celebrated multi-hyphenate Jade Osiberu.

Amazon Prime Video has signed a three-year overall deal with Nigerian filmmaker Jáde Osiberu that will see her develop and produce original scripted TV series and feature films for the global streamer through her production company Greoh Studios.

One of Nigeria’s best-known and most successful director/producers, Osiberu is behind such features as Isoken (2017) and Sugar Rush (2019) and is the creator/writer/director of Amazon’s highly-anticipated new Nigerian original movie Gangs of Lagos, which Amazon is screening at the Toronto Film Festival this year. The movie is set to launch as the first Nigerian original exclusively on Prime Video later this year.

Netflix announced three new unscripted series on Tuesday: “The Fix,” “Westside,” and “Sugar Rush.”

The 10-episode “The Fix” has Jimmy Carr (pictured above) and permanent team captains Katherine Ryan and D.L. Hughley hosting guest comedians and experts to tackle one massive issue facing the world and attempting to solve it. Produced by Embassy Row, the series is executive produced by Michael Davies and Andrew Westwell, and is described as “the first comedy show in the world with the stated ambition to solve the world’s biggest problems.”

“Westside” will follow a group of young musicians who collaborate to create an original performance series at a Los Angeles night club. Produced by Love Productions and Madwood Studios and directed by James Carroll, the eight episodes will weave gritty and cinematic docu-series scenes with music videos and original songs. Kevin Bartel, Richard McKerrow, Michael Flutie, Sun DeGraff, Lara Spotts serve as executive producers.

Although the trailer itself is pretty light on story, there’s a lot of fun to be had with it. Even though it’s only been six years since the release of the original film, the even further rise to prominence of social media seems to play a big part in the sequel. I’m loving the inclusion of the Daft Punk music that accompanies this trailer, but where it really shines is with the comedy. I think that there’s a lot of great situations to be had with Ralph and Vanellope in both being stuck in the fish out of water position.

Ralph is back, and this time, he’s bought a one-way ticket to the Internet, a sprawling online metropolis teeming with clickbait headlines that are all too familiar (“these 10 child stars went to prison – number six will amaze you!”) and other phishing scams designed to hoodwink its readers into pointing their cursors in the wrong direction.

76 women sign open letter to commissioners that claims British drama is “overwhelmingly written by men”.

A group of more than 70 female writers has accused UK drama bosses of failing to give them opportunities to ‘graduate’ from soaps to flagship primetime shows (reports Broadcast).

In an open letter to TV drama commissioners, 76 women, whose work ranges from EastEnders and Casualty to Midsomer Murders, Hollyoaks and Us series How To Get Away With Murder, claimed British drama is “overwhelmingly written by men”.

Disney gave us our first look at Wreck-It Ralph 2 in the form of a poster, but they didn't just give us any poster. They gave us a Motion Poster!

Disney's first Wreck-It Ralph, in 2012, was a smash hit with fans of all ages, as the arcade game-themed animated film connected with audiences by capturing the nostalgia from the classic video game era. This past week at the D23 Disney Exposition Event, a ton of news regarding the future of Disney franchises was unveiled including the announcement that a Big Hero 6 world will be featured in Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts III.

With the inclusion of Tangled and Big Hero 6 in Sora’s latest adventure, the speculation of which other Disney franchises could join in on the fun is running wild. Let’s take a look at some of the Disney films that would fit well in the universe of Kingdom Hearts.

We won’t be including acquired franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, Studio Ghibli or the Muppets neither will we be including Pixar films or else the list would be never ending! Rather let’s focus on Disney films which have a big fanbase or a fitting aesthetic that have unfortunately been omitted in previous installments of Kingdom Hearts.

A classic fairy tale is brought back to life this month with the release of Disney's new live-action Cinderella movie. Downton Abbey's Lily James is the latest star to become a Disney Princess, donning the glass slippers to take on the title role for director Kenneth Branagh.

Anne-Marie Duff is to lead the cast of new BBC psychological crime drama From Darkness.

The drama is the first original commission from writer Katie Baxendale, who has written for Sugar Rush and The Paradise, and originates from the BBC writersroom.

Duff, who is known for her roles in dramas including Shameless and The Virgin Queen, will play Claire Church, an ex-police officer who left the Greater Manchester Police after the violence involved became too overwhelming for her.

After feeling ignored in the office and her relationship with her married Di, Claire found solace in the remote Western Isles with her new man Norrie and daughter Megan.

However when four bodies from Claire's past investigations are unearthed, she finds herself back in a world she thought she had left behind and faced with a case that only she can solve.

Last year, As If celebrated 10 years since it came to an end on Channel 4. Digital Spy looks back on the cult series, speaking to several of the main cast about their memories of the show.

The sad fact with As If, is that it is almost impossible to track down today. The show has never been released on DVD, due to a copyright issue with the music. Without the music, it simply wouldn't be As If.

"Given the choice between no music so we can release the DVD, I'd choose the music," said Caroline Chikezie (Sasha). "They used to say the music was the seventh cast member, it was so important. It just took it to a whole new level. I guess it's worth not having a DVD release just to keep the music."

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore has revealed details of a number of new programmes heading to the channel.

Speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Moore revealed that she had commissioned several shows to broaden BBC One's drama, factual and documentary offerings.

The first of these, The Living And The Dead, is a new six-part fantasy drama from the creators of Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes. It begins shooting next year and, according to Moore, is "steeped in real history and mythology that will scare the audience and awaken the dead".

Set in Somerset in 1888, the hour-long episodes will follow the story of Nathan Appleby, a farmer who has made it his mission to prove the existence of an afterlife. Just a quick scan down the list below reveals an extraordinary breadth of genres and subject matters, from imposing, expensive science fiction films to quiet, intimate stories about men at sea on boats or outlaws breaking out of prison to be with their wives. Disparate though the films are, they're all linked by at least one common motif: their music is utterly brilliant.

So here we are in Christmas week, most of the usual streaming companies have done well for you so that you won’t be too bored post turkey when you have to tolerate the family. Apart from Now TV though, there is still a serious lack of Christmas themed films out there which is a disappointment unless you really like the Santa Clause movies because they are floating around Netflix somewhere.

Disney and Pixar love throwing in little Easter eggs throughout their films to give hardcore fans something to look out for. Thanks to the Disney Blog, we have three Easter eggs to show you that were included in the studio's recent animated fairytale adventure Frozen.

First up! Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled made an appearance at Elsa’s coronation.

Then, as you can see next to Anna on the table, there's a plate of candy and chocolate from Wreck-It Ralph's Sugar Rush.

Then the last one includes a tiny Mickey Mouse plush that hides on one of the bottom shelves in Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna. You have to look closely, but its there.

As far as kids' movie sequels go, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is really trying to top the original... in weirdness, at least. The new movie introduces us to "foodimals," which are mash-ups of wild creatures and different kinds of foods. There's a tacodile and a hipotatomus and shrimpanzee -- the latter of which is especially crazy because shrimp are animals already.
