Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episode 10 of Apple TV+’s Bad Monkey.
Season 1 of Bill Lawrence’s Apple TV+ crime series Bad Monkey, based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel, wrapped its run with a jam-packed finale that saw the demise of three main characters. Gracie, aka the Dragon Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith), died at the hands of Eve (Meredith Hagner), who also pushed her wheelchair-bound husband Nick (Rob Delaney) into the ocean. As the show continued to weave magic into reality, the Dragon Queen’s dying wish to Eve, “I hope you choke … on your lies,” basically came true as Eve choked on a baby carrot and then was pulled by an invisible force to the edge as she jumped off a building to her death after escaping to Portugal.

Justin Dyck, the director behind 2020 horror darling Anything for Jackson, has lined up his next horror feature, The Casket Girls. Deadline reports today that the new movie has found its star in Gabrielle Union.
The Casket Girls was written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum), with revisions by Keith Cooper (Anything for Jackson) & Dyck.
The story is inspired by a true story, the real-life Casket Girls of New Orleans. The moniker refers to the young women sent from France to New Orleans to become brides to French colonists in the early 1700s, bearing luggage resembling caskets. Because their arrival coincided with an uptick in the city’s murder rate, the girls were blamed and accused of being demons or vampires. The city imprisoned the girls in the attic of the Vatican-controlled Ursuline Convent, which still exists today.
It’s the precise type of historical tale that feels ripe for horror.

The writing duo of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are best known for their work on comedies and family friendly projects: Reno 911!, Taxi (2004), The Pacifier, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Let’s Go to Prison, Balls of Fury, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Baywatch (2017), Night at the Museum, and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. But they’ve also written the horror comedy Hell Baby, and Garant has written the horror films The Veil and Jessabelle. So it’s not entirely off brand to hear that they wrote the initial screenplay for the upcoming horror film The Casket Girls, with Gabrielle Union (Breaking In) on board to star and executive produce.

With everyone buzzing like bees about Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga’s Folie à Deux after the success of Joker in 2019, expectations are sky-high. Projection predicting it’ll be the next big thing, maybe even outshining its predecessor. However, there’s one flick it won’t be toppling this year, and that’s Ryan Reynold and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Even though it’s expected to rake in some serious cash on opening weekend, it’s still lagging behind the explosive numbers of our favorite Merc with a Mouth and the iconic mutant. So, while Joker: Folie à Deux might dazzle, it’s not quite ready to dethrone Deadpool & Wolverine’s box office bash.

The Toronto Film Festival on Thursday returned post-strikes with Hollywood star wattage as Ben Stiller and director David Gordon Green gave a glittering lift-off for their opening night film Nutcrackers.
Gordon Green introduced Stiller to the crowd at Roy Thomson Hall in the Canadian city that looked primed for film fest fun with the opening night comedy. The Zoolander and Tropic of Thunder star then recalled making movies in Canada.
“When people will talk to me sometimes about the Night at the Museum movies, they’ll say, Wow, what’s it like to shoot in the Museum of Natural History? And I’ll say it was actually a warehouse in Vancouver,” Stiller recounted.
“I’ve made a bunch of movies in Canada, and it’s always been an amazing experience,” Stiller added. His comments followed Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau touting Canada as a foreign location destination for Hollywood. “Our...

Once upon a time, in the magical land of Hollywood, a movie about the globally popular video game "Minecraft" was being made. Inspired perhaps by the success of "The Lego Movie," which took the rather simple block toys of childhood and created a cinematic miracle that made more than $468 million at the worldwide box office, Mojang Studios started looking at turning its own popular building-block game into a blockbuster movie. But who to helm it? "The Lego Movie" had Chris Miller and Phil Lord of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and "21 Jump Street" fame, and "Minecraft" needed someone with similar comedy chops.

We haven't had a Star Wars movie in theaters since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, although there have been lots of fits, starts and stops since then. But know that the wheel has never stopped turning. The executives at Lucasfilm and Disney are sitting high on their black thrones planning future visits to the galaxy far, far away. We're getting a Mandalorian movie, a movie about Rey from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and a film from Shawn Levy, best known right now as the director behind the hugely successful Deadpool & Wolverine.
Again, I'll say that lots of filmmakers have started to make Star Wars movies in the past few years only for the projects to fall apart, including Taika Waititi, Damon Lindelof, Rian Johnson, Patty Jenkins and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. It's a spaceship graveyard over there. But it seems like Disney has been...

Back in 2022, Shawn Levy was determined to get Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman together in a movie, telling /Film, "I'm not going to say where and how, but I absolutely will confirm my intention and determination to be the lucky son of a b***h who puts these two magnificent gods in the same movie together. That will happen and it will be me." Then, he did it. Or rather, Reynolds did it.

Bad Monkey isn’t just the title of Vince Vaughn’s new Apple TV+ series; the phrase could also apply to his primate scene partner, according to the actor.
Crystal the Monkey — who has more than 30 credits to her name, including The Hangover Part II and Night at the Museum — plays the titular monkey in the show, which is adapted from Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 book of the same name. It follows a former Miami detective Andrew Yancy (Vaughn) who is demoted to a restaurant inspector in the Florida Keys; an unusual new case might get him back in the department if he can get past an odd cast of characters and one monkey.
Though Vaughn admitted Crystal is “a talented monkey,” he jokingly told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday, “I’ll never work with that one again. Talk about sucking up all the oxygen on a set,...

On the 10th anniversary of comedian Robin Williams’ death, his daughter Zelda took to social media to address false claims circulating about the beloved actor. The 35-year-old refuted a viral post that erroneously stated her father owned a pet monkey in his final days.
The original post, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by an account called Time Capsule Tales, featured a photo of Robin Williams with a monkey on his shoulder. The caption claimed it was one of the last photos taken of the actor before his death by suicide on August 11, 2014, at age 63.
Zelda Williams swiftly corrected the misinformation, explaining that her father never owned a pet monkey. She urged the public to support exotic animal rescues rather than keeping such animals as pets. Williams clarified that the monkey in the photo was actually Crystal, an animal actor from the Night at the Museum film series in which her father starred.

Ahead of the release of "Cuckoo," I asked Dan Stevens in an interview where his character, Herr König, ranked in his roster of "freaky lil' weirdos." Instead of being a terrible parent and admitting which child is the gold star, he took the more diplomatic route. "I mean, I love all my weird little freaks equally," he says. "I couldn't possibly put them in order, but he's definitely up there in terms of how fun they were to play, largely because of the environment that was created." I can't argue with the answer and I respect his refusal to play favorites, but I am not Dan Stevens, and therefore, I have no qualms about highlighting all of my favorite weird performances of his, and ranking them so as to appease the almighty algorithm that requires such things. This is by no means a definitive list, but 10 of his absolute finest.

Renowned director Shawn Levy, known for blockbusters like the Night at the Museum trilogy, is venturing into a galaxy far, far away with an undisclosed Star Wars project. In a revealing new interview, Levy discussed his plans to craft a story unlike any other in the iconic franchise’s history.
Speaking with podcast host Josh Horowitz, Levy expressed his desire to break new ground rather than retread familiar eras. “There’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline,” Levy stated. His comments suggest the film will depart from the well-trodden Skywalker Saga that has defined the property for decades.
Levy aims to push creative boundaries by delving into uncharted areas of the expansive Star Wars timeline. “I really wanted something that felt organic to me in tone and characters,” he explained, hinting at exploring classic themes through a fresh lens.

Shawn Levy has long chafed at the labels Hollywood has placed upon him.
That helps explain the evolution of the Montreal-born filmmaker from go-to family comedy guy (Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen) to the producer of cerebral Oscar winners (Arrival) and cultural behemoths (Stranger Things).
After a string of successes in the aughts, Levy branched out with the 2011 Amblin-esque feature Real Steel, which earned nearly $300 million globally and showed he could bring his trademark emotionality to the action sphere. It also teamed him with Hugh Jackman, who, like others who have worked with the producer-director, says he creates an empathetic environment on set. “There isn’t one scene that necessarily was ‘the moment we clicked,’ ” Jackman recalls. “It was more a feeling on Real Steel that it made me know this was going to be a lifelong friendship.”

August is gonna be huge for Disney+ and Hulu! There’s so much cool new stuff coming out over the next month to keep us entertained as summer wraps up.
Disney+ has some awesome shows starting new seasons. “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures” is back on August 14th with more space adventures. Kids can also look forward to fresh episodes of “Me and Winnie the Pooh” on the 21st. Music fans should check out “Are You Sure?!,” a new show about BTS members Jimin and Jung Kook that comes out the 8th.
Hulu really loaded up their August lineup with something for everyone. One of the biggest things has to be season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building” premiering on the 27th. I heard they added some famous people like Zach Galifianakis and Eugene Levy too which will be sweet.
Movie lovers can watch a bunch of new flicks that just left theaters too.

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.
But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook. Hulu will become home to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Woman King,” “Smile,” and more movie titles, as well as the home for FX series — this month: “The New York Times Presents: Lie to Fly: Documentary Premiere.” Hulu originals “Solar Opposites” returns on August 12, and “Reasonable Doubt” for its second season starting August...

Is this a photo shoot or a bawdy stand-up comedy routine?
When you’re hanging out with Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy, the team behind this summer’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it can be hard to know the difference. Instead of focusing on getting camera ready, the three men are cracking themselves up in a game of “Can you top this outrageous punchline?”
Given that they’re here to sell a raunchy, boundary-pushing sequel to the most profane superhero franchise in history, it’s not surprising that many of the jokes are Nsfw. Take the moment when 47-year-old Reynolds, who stars in the film with Jackman, stands on a chair for a photo with his crotch hovering over writer-director Levy’s head. “What is happening?” Levy exclaims in feigned horror. Reynolds shrugs. “You’ve never been teabagged before?” he says.

The much-anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine is swiftly approaching its impending release, with the hype for the MCU entry at an all-time high. Directed by Shawn Levy, the team-up film will see the titular heroes joining forces to defeat an uncanny threat. However, Levy would have almost certainly lost out on the gig had he accepted to direct a disastrous Dceu film.

A while back, Levy was in contention to helm The Flash movie based on the popular DC Comics character of the same name. However, given the eventual fate of The Flash movie, especially its lackluster performance at the box office, it is safe to say that it would have rendered the director unhireable from a Marvel Studios perspective.

When the big-budget sci-fi/boxing flick hybrid "Real Steel" brawled its way into theaters on October 7, 2011, it was ridiculed by some as "Rock'em Sock'em Robots: The Motion Picture." On one hand, the $110 million-budgeted film's blockbuster pedigree of star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy did little to suggest the film was anything more than this. But anyone who grew up gorging on Rod Serling's original run of "The Twilight Zone" in syndication or reading the novels and short stories of Richard Matheson knew there was more to "Real Steel," at least in theory, than family friendly mechanical mayhem.
Obviously, with that budget, Disney (which distributed the DreamWorks production) wasn't going to sell the film primarily on its connection to a nearly 50-year-old black-and-white television show. As for Matheson, while he's considered a god of 20th century sci-fi/fantasy/horror literature by publishing heavyweights like Stephen King and Neil Gaiman,...

Avengers, re-assemble!
Variety has reported that Shawn Levy, reliable director of “Night at the Museum,” “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” is “in the mix” to helm the next “Avengers” superhero team-up for Marvel. In late July, his promised-to-be-potty-mouthed R-rated “Deadpool & Wolverine” will hit theaters and, clearly, Marvel’s leader, Kevin Feige, liked what he saw.
Marvel is in desperate need of a course correction after some wobbly entries like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “The Marvels,” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” There was once a time when the Marvel opening logo was enough to print money and create cultural resonance, but those days have begun to wane, due in part to a glut of Disney+ streaming shows and the fact that “Avengers: Endgame” really did seem like a nice place to end the story. Deadpool & Wolverine is not in theaters for almost another two months, but the hopes and aspirations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—and perhaps now the summer movie season box office itself—are already being placed on Ryan Reynolds’ broad, leather-clad shoulders. So it’s not like the Merc with a Mouth needed any more pressure. Yet pressure he might receive if the latest report out of Deadline is true: director Shawn Levy has entered early talks to helm the next Avengers movie.

The Avengers may be assembling for Shawn Levy.
Levy, who is busy putting the final touches on Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, is in contention for the film and may be the studio’s choice to direct the next Avengers film.
The development is characterized as very early. Sources say Marvel and Levy are talking about the project and that the studio gave the latest script to the filmmaker late last week. But sources also say that other filmmakers are in the mix for the high-profile gig.
There is reason for some caution. Marvel previously — and quietly — offered the directing gig to Levy in mid-March, but at that point, the filmmaker turned it down. Scheduling was the concern at the time, as Levy is moving from various duties on Deadpool & Wolverine, which opens July 26, to the last season of Stranger Things. Hollywood is bursting with "what if" scenarios -- "Sliding Doors" moments where actors, writers, directors, and craftspeople almost made a certain project, or almost walked away from a job that would become huge for their careers. With the benefit of hindsight, these situations are often fun to think about -- especially if, as in the case in today's example, A) the two people competing for a part were vying for a memorable role in a well-known movie, and B) they both went on to have great careers, so the thought exercise doesn't feel mean-spirited or just plain sad.

The Walt Disney Company has been having a number of global box office underperformers as of late. What were once guaranteed hits at the box office from studios like Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, or even their live-action remake films are no longer making money for the entertainment juggernaut over the past few years.
Now, to try and find something that will attract audiences, they are attempting something a little out of the box. While it isn’t uncommon for them to attempt to make movies based on their popular theme park attractions, this new project is based on something only real die-hard fans would know about.

Club 33, the exclusive dining club inside Disneyland, is getting the movie treatment.
