At 2:01:56 in the end credits is the listing (translated to English) "ROBERT SCHUMANN / Piano Concerto in A minor Op.54 / Live concert, October 2004 in the Tonhalle Zurich / Piano: Teo Gheorghiu / Zurich Chamber Orchestra / conducted by Howard Griffiths". Teo would have turned 12 on August 12, 2004, but filming of Vitus (2006) would not begin until April 2005. In the director's commentary on the 2007 DVD at 1:55:42, producer Christof Neracher mentions the production did not have sufficient funds to shoot a concert with an audience of 1500 extras, so they arranged a normal concert, mentioning there would be filming involved, and made more money on admissions than the cost of the concert and filming it. He also mentions that the production concert was Teo's first concert in Tonhalle concert hall, Zurich, so it would have been the October 2004 concert, six months before regular shooting began in April, 2005.
At 0:26:15 in the 2007 DVD's director's commentary, Fredi Murer describes the search for a boy to play 6 year old Vitus after Teo Gheorghiu had been selected in 2004 to play 12 year old Vitus. Age 6 was too young to attend a conservatory, so they searched Montessori kindergartens. They didn't find Fabrizio Borsani until three or four weeks before shooting was scheduled to begin in April, 2005.
Vitus' kindergarten teacher tells his mother that Vitus is very cheeky because he calls her Obelix instead of Mrs. Pfenninger (at 0:10:43 on the 2007 DVD). Helen von Holzen replies "That's a compliment, he loves Obelix." Obelix is a cartoon character in the French comic book series Asterix noted for his fatness, the menhirs he carries around on his back, and his superhuman strength. (Mrs. Pfenninger is heavy set.)
At 1:19:05 in the 2007 DVD director's commentary, Fredi Murer mentions that they had about 40 shooting days and that Teo Gheorghiu was involved in about 28 of those days.
At the beginning of the movie, Vitus' mother works part-time for Luisa who is also Vitus' godmother, practices astrology, and made a horoscope for Vitus for his first birthday [cited at 1:07:48 on the 2007 DVD]. At 1:45:53 she introduces herself as Luisa Meichtri from A-Publishers.
