No. Paul Schrader said in his Q & A session about this film at The Chicago International Film Festival that he envisioned "The Walker" more as a follow-up to "American Gigolo" in which we would see the character of Julian as a more refined 50 something. Therefore, in Schrader's opinion, "The Walker" is closer to a sequel than a remake of "American Gigolo".
