Tom Cruise starred in numerous blockbuster films throughout his career. While he has delivered exceptional performances, the action star has notably done only two sequels outside of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Top Gun: Maverick and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

While Maverick turned out to be a massive hit, renewing the action film series with the 2022 sequel, the same could not be said about the latter. After Christopher McQuarrie’s 2012 film, Edward Zwick took over the sequel, which ultimately fell short of expectations.
The filmmaker later reflected on the movie’s failure in his book, admitting that his attempt to put a personal spin on the story ultimately led to the downfall of the franchise.

Apple has struck a distribution deal with Amazon that will see its Apple TV Plus streaming service sold as an add-on to Prime Video, the companies announced on Wednesday.
Later this month, Amazon will begin selling Apple TV Plus through its streaming marketplace called Prime Video Channels, which already offers third-party services like Starz, Britbox, Max and Paramount Plus.
When purchased through Prime Video Channels, Apple TV Plus will cost $10 per month. Apple sells subscriptions to its streaming service at the same price point when purchased through Apple phones, tablets and computers.
The partnership means Prime Video users can opt to stream hit Apple TV Plus series like “Ted Lasso,” “Loot” and “The Morning Show” through the same app that they use for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Boys” and “Jack Reacher.

The third season of Reacher isn’t set to premiere until next year, but Prime Video is already looking beyond it.
The Amazon-owned streamer has renewed Reacher for a fourth season. The pickup comes months ahead of season three’s debut, which is set for sometime in 2025. (Season three was also announced ahead of the season two premiere).
That Prime Video would want to keep Reacher going is no surprise: The show based on Lee Child’s novels about freelance problem-solver Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) is one of the biggest on the platform. Season two, which premiered in December 2023, was the most viewed release of that year on Prime Video. A spinoff series focusing on Maria Sten’s character, Frances Neagley, is also on the way.

Prime Video’s “Reacher” universe is expanding with the series order of a spinoff starring Maria Sten.
“The Untitled Neagley Project,” as the show is referred to in a press release, focuses on Sten’s Frances Neagley, a private investigator in Jack Reacher’s circle. “When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell bent on justice,” the show’s synopsis reads. “Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”
Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke made the announcement at the Prime Video Presents: Trailblazers event on Tuesday in London, with Sten also on hand to share her excitement. “I love Neagley,” Sten told the audience. “She’s so fun to play, she’s so quirky and has so much complexity.

“Reacher” fans, rejoice. Amazon is moving forward on a spinoff of the monster hit action-thriller series that will focus on Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), as she sets out on a dangerous revenge mission of her own.
Head of Amazon MGM Studios Jennifer Salke announced the still untitled project — it’s literally being referred to as “The Untitled Neagley Project” — Tuesday at Prime Video’s Trailblazers event in London.
Developed by “Reacher” creator Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton, per the official logline the spinoff finds Neagley working as a private investigator in Chicago. Can’t get enough of “Rebel Ridge”? You’re certainly not alone. Jeremy Saulnier’s Netflix hit has soared up the streaming charts, thanks to Saulnier’s tight script, toothsome filmmaking and one star-making performance from Aaron Pierre. But all the qualities that make it so special also make it hard to find more movies that will scratch the same itch.
For one thing, it’s distressingly difficult to find action movies (that aren’t Batman or Spider-Man) where the hero makes an active effort not to kill people. But “Rebel Ridge” also treads in unique cinematic waters, a hybrid neo-western legal conspiracy thriller by way of payback actioner that seamlessly blends vintage sensibilities with modern techniques and is led by just about the coolest movie character of the decade. There’s nothing quite like it, but if you’re looking for more movies like “Rebel Ridge,” here’s a...

In its second week on Netflix, Prison Break rocketed to the top of Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
The former Fox series, which also streams on Hulu, was added to Netflix on July 29 and made its streaming chart debut that week. For the week of Aug. 5-11, it more than doubled the previous frame’s viewing time, rising from 758 million to 1.6 billion minutes. (Hulu, incidentally, is developing a new version of Prison Break with Mayans Mc showrunner Elgin James.)
Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy — whose final season premiered Aug. 8 — was the top original series for the week, coming in at 1.46 billion minutes of viewing. That’s a strong showing, but also down a good amount from the 2.45 billion minutes the show recorded the week of its season three premiere in June 2022.

John Stamos has achieved quite a lot of commendable feats throughout his career, starring across multiple television series and movies to deliver some of the most magical performances both as an actor and a musician. Even without following in Tom Cruise’s footsteps when he got the chance, he was easily a renowned icon in the entertainment industry.

This is because he once had the chance to become a member of Scientology, just like the action hero Cruise, but was kicked out of the group for goofing around a bit too much!

[This story contains major spoilers for Strange Darling.]
Willa Fitzgerald’s former Reacher co-star Alan Ritchson once called her the best actor he’s ever worked with, and that was before he’d seen her critically acclaimed performance as The Lady in Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling. Fitzgerald’s bold turn is being hailed by many critics and viewers as the finest work of her career, and the opportunity was able to present itself because her tenure on the aforementioned Reacher was limited to just one season.
The popular Amazon Prime series takes its cues from Lee Child’s Jack Reacher book series and changes up its cast and setting with each passing season. Fitzgerald’s exit then opened the door to Strange Darling and Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher, but she’s never been fazed or frustrated over the fact that she had to depart a series that wound up being a smash hit.

Throughout his action-studded career, Tom Cruise has never once hesitated to take that extra step to deliver the ultimate realistic experience to viewers and fans that has them seated at the edge of their seats. Be it doing death-defying stunts or pulling off real-time Gs for his aviation projects, he has never once shied away from doing things others would consider “crazy” to do.

That said, when people fail to properly acknowledge the work he has done by intentionally choosing not to have that ultimate viewing experience as opposed to his wishes, Cruise really does get batsh-t crazy. Just like the times he did when Miles Teller and James Cordon tried to get under his skin by watching his films exactly the way he told them not to.

House of the Dragon aired its season 2 finale back on August 4, and despite some misgivings among fans, it was a ratings hit. That's according to The Wrap Report, which measures streaming and linear TV viewing according to "viewership trends collected from Samba TV's panel of more than 3 million households, balanced to the U.S. Censes." These ratings might not be quite as unimpeachable as Nielsen ratings, but they still give us a good idea of what people are watching. What can we find at the end of the dragon’s tail? More dragons, apparently. After airing its season 2 finale on August 4, “House of the Dragon” was still the most-watched streaming program on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Aug. 5-11, as viewers caught up on the season.
Even in a week during which it did not release a new episode, “Dragon” bested this week’s big streaming series debut, “The Umbrella Academy” Season 4. Netflix added the six-episode season on Aug. 8 and drew enough households to place the series at No. 6 this week. The first episode of Season 4 was seen by 559,000 U.S. households during the first four days it was available.

Tom Cruise continues to attract audiences to his films, even years after they first hit theaters. Cruise’s two “Jack Reacher” movies from 2012 and 2016 have surged up the popularity rankings on the streaming service Netflix. As of this week, the first film “Jack Reacher” sits at number seven on Netflix’s most-streamed list. Its sequel “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” is doing even better at number five.
This renewed interest may seem surprising since the sequel received mixed reviews and made less money at the box office than the original. Still, both films have found a new audience on Netflix. Experts say this highlights Cruise’s lasting star power to draw viewers to his work, whether in theaters or on streaming. The films show that a theatrical debut can keep a movie memorable later on other platforms.
Some credit also goes to the Prime Video TV series adaptation of the “Jack Reacher” character.

Tom Cruise is one of the world's biggest movie stars, and he's demonstrating that right now on Netflix. The actor has not one, but two movies dominating the top ten charts on the streamer at the moment. What's more, both movies are from the same franchise. No, it's not "Mission: Impossible." Rather, it's Cruise's turn as Jack Reacher that's getting a second look on Netflix, with his two films playing the Lee Childs character both being streamed by millions of viewers as we speak.
As of this writing, 2012's "Jack Reacher" and 2016's "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" are both firmly in the list of the top ten most-streamed movies on Netflix, sitting at the number seven and five spots, respectively. It's fascinating, given that Cruise has since been replaced as the character by Alan Ritchson in Prime Video's "Reacher" TV show. Has the popularity of that show helped...

The #1 movie of 2024 (“Inside Out 2”), as well as #3 (“Despicable Me 4”), and #7 (“Kung Fu Panda”) are animated features. The medium’s representations continue in streaming results, with Universal releasing “Despicable Me 4” on PVOD last week. An immediate #1 at both iTunes and Fandango, it remained at #5 in theaters last weekend. It added another $8 million for a $330 million totall as usual, marketing for home viewing might have boosted its box office.
And somehow, Sony’s 2017 “The Emoji Movie” is now a hit. It grossed $217 million worldwide amidst blistering reviews; it debuted on Netflix this weekend and jumped to #1. It reinforces the notion that animation is foolproof as long as it seems fresh.
It is one of four animated titles on Netflix’s list, which includes one Netflix original, as well as “Trolls Band Together” and “The Lorax” from Universal. However, the eight-month run of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” may be over.

Just as rumors spread about action star Tom Cruise’s Paris Olympics closing ceremony stunt, the Jack Reacher films hit streaming. Coincidence? Maybe. But what better time than now to tune into the bestselling novels’ first film adaptations, Jack Reacher (2012) and its sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back(2016). Plus, how else will you pass the time before witnessing whatever cliff Cruise flies off next?
The first film — from the director of the last three Mission: Impossible films, Christopher McQuarrie — stars Cruise as ruthless justice-seeker Jack Reacher, after he’s called upon to run an independent investigation to find the true identity of a deadly sniper. The sequel, from The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick, follows Reacher as he, in an attempt to exonerate a friend from being framed, gets targeted by law enforcement and ends up on the run before discovering a massive conspiracy.

Meantime, Paramount-produced films currently take three of the top five spots on Netflix’s movie top 10, led by Tom Cruise in two “Jack Reacher” movies, “Never Go Back” at #1 and the original at #5. #2 right now is “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie,” an offshoot of Paramount-owned Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants” empire, which earlier led the list.
Like Sony, Paramount is happy to take Netflix’s money even if it means removing content from their in-house streamer, Paramount+. Toronto has long been a popular destination for major productions thanks to its solid and skilled crew base, competitive tax credits, extensive studio space and growing tech sector. Projects such as Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Amazon’s hit show The Boys and Netflix comedy Ginny & Georgia are just some of the 24 productions that are shooting (or close to shooting) in Ontario’s capital city. And while its modern infrastructure and very stable and long-established system of local and federal incentives have always been a big draw to the region, this is, say locals, just one piece of the puzzle as the city looks to build on this growth.
“The economic argument is that the production services tax credit is here, and it’s been stable for a really long time,” says Marguerite Pigott, the Film Commissioner and Director of Entertainment Industries for the City of Toronto. “This, plus...

Tom Cruise has cemented a strong legacy thanks to his daring guts that have helped him become an action superstar. Apart from action, he has showcased his acting prowess in a range of genres that go way beyond the likes of Top Gun (1986) and Mission: Impossible movies. In the world of action heroes, Jack Reacher is arguably one of the most famous ones. Based on the fan-favorite crime thriller novel series by Lee Child, he has some really extreme characters in his saga, making it all the more interesting than ever before. That said, when it comes to the people who played him in live-action, there are only two names: Tom Cruise and Alan Ritchson.

While Cruise’s version of this action hero was undeniably pretty short, the six feet two inches tall towering Ritchson changed that through his embodiment of the character in the Prime Video series. However, when it comes to the height chart in this hero’s live-action franchise, then it seems that even Ritchson would look dwarfed as the series casts the world’s tallest bodybuilder in the show!
Warning: Contains Spoilers for the Reacher Series Ahead.

Alan Ritchson’s role as Jack Reacher in the Amazon Prime Video series Reacher is the second iteration of the popular character. Based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, the first cinematic adaptation of the character was played by Tom Cruise in Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher and its sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
While Cruise’s iteration received mixed responses from the fans, Alan Ritchson’s depiction received better responses, especially for his look. Sure, Tom Cruise doesn’t look anything like the Jack Reacher character as described in the novels by Lee Child – but the average movie-goer didn’t seem to mind in 2012, when audiences showed up to make the film Jack Reacher, written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (based on Child’s novel One Shot) a box office success. Made on a budget of $60 million, Jack Reacher earned over $218 million worldwide. It looked like Cruise had a new franchise on his hands. But sometimes bizarre decisions are made in the name of franchise filmmaking. With McQuarrie busy working on a different Cruise franchise (Mission: Impossible), the Jack Reacher sequel was passed over to Cruise’s The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick. A promising start. But then the questionable decisions began, resulting in a sequel – 2016’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – that fell short of its predecessor in every way.

Before Alan Ritchson was Jack Reacher, he was Kevin “Thad” Castle, the Blue Mountain State football team captain in the cult TV comedy series. I’m not at all familiar with the series, but according to Deadline, Blue Mountain State is eyeing a comeback as a sequel series is being shopped.
Alan Ritchson would reprise his role for the Blue Mountain State sequel series, with Darin Brooks and Chris Romano also expected to return as Alex Moran and Sammy Cacciatore, respectively. The original series premiered on Spike TV (remember that?) in 2010 and aired for three seasons before it was cancelled. It followed three incoming freshmen attending Midwestern college football powerhouse Blue Mountain State who must quickly adapt to college life and juggle football, girls, classes, and nonstop hazing. Over the years, the series has gathered a cult following, even spawning a Kickstarter-funded follow-up movie, Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland.

Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books are tasty slabs of red meat for those who prefer their pulpy action hard-boiled, providing readers with a motley collection of crime investigations, despicable bad guys, and a hero who's the sort of unstoppable force that could make an immovable object shuffle a little. And so far, Prime Video's "Reacher" has stayed largely faithful to that ethos. The show might not hold up under critical scrutiny, but it's not meant to. Child's original novels are page-turners designed to be consumed in a single go by anyone and everyone regardless of their familiarity with the greater franchise, and the series is cut squarely from the same cloth.
Be that as it may, those who invest themselves in the extended "Reacher" mythology will be rewarded for their efforts. Throughout extensive flashbacks, season 1 fleshes out Jack Reacher's backstory, starting with his days as a military brat...

To paraphrase all those singing nuns, how do you solve a problem like Jack Reacher? If you're Christopher McQuarrie, you hire your movie star pal, Tom Cruise (despite the actor's notable height difference from the character as depicted in author Lee Child's novels — more on that later), and make a fabulous, still-underseen '70s-style political thriller/neo-noir film. If you're showrunner Nick Santora, you develop a TV series for Prime Video, hire the biggest Mack truck-looking dude you can, and make "a sharp, self-aware action caper," as /Film's own Valerie Ettenhoffer described it.
However, if you're Edward Zwick, you team up with your old "The Last Samurai" cohort Cruise and attempt to follow up McQuarrie's film with something a little bit different, seeing if there may be more to Reacher beneath his brooding brutality. Sadly, this approach failed to connect with audiences when Zwick's film, "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,...

Former U.S. Army military police major Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) will be coming back for another edge-of-your-seat season of Reacher.
After shoving the head of security and all-things-evil, Shane Langston (Robert Patrick), out of a moving aircraft for killing members of his unit in Season 2, Reacher is all set for more vigilante justice.
News of the muscular hero's return came almost immediately following the finale of Season 2 when Ritchson took to Twitter/X with the announcement. One can only imagine who will be on the receiving end of Reacher's fist.
The Amazon Prime Video action crime streaming TV series was a big hit after it debuted on February 4, 2022, where Reacher finds himself in the town of Margrave, Georgia.
With the help of two police officers, Roscoe Conklin and Oscar Finlay, Reacher sets out to investigate local corruption.
After wowing audiences with an action-packed first season, it seemed only logical for...

“Reacher” just wrapped its second season on Prime Video.
This time around Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson), had to team with members of his old army squad, in an effort to figure out who is dropping them out of helicopters one-by-one. (That age-old conundrum.)
One of those team members is, of course, Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, one of Reacher’s sole allies in the outside world. She showed up in Season 1 and immediately became a fan favorite, even though the character didn’t appear in the book the inaugural season was based on.
Sten is confirmed to return in Season 3, which this time is based on Lee Child’s “Persuader,” another book that Neagley actually doesn’t show up in. Meaning Sten and her performance transcend the dogged commitment to the source material. She’s more chipper and richer than the smart-aleck Reacher, and their chemistry is palpable on screen.
