Super Night of Rock 'n Roll (1984)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Howard Hesseman hosts this tribute to all things rock 'n roll and features performances by Chuck Berry, The Temptations, Jefferson Starship, James Brown, The Hollies, Darlene Love, Graham Nash and Frankie Valli.
If you're a fan of Rock music then you'll certainly enjoy this television special, which featured several live performances as well as a trip down memory lane with countless clips from just about every rock star from the 1950s-early 80s. With that said, for some reason Bob Dylan is completely overlooked but outside of that this is a really good look at rock music.
As far as the live performances go, we've got Chuck Berry doing Roll Over Beethoven and Johnny B. Goode, The Temptations doing My Girl, Frankie Valli sings Can't Take My Eyes Off of You, Jefferson Starship doing Somebody to Love and Jane as well as The Hollies doing Carrie Ann. At the end we get everyone out on stage doing Rock and Roll Music.
The clips selected are also very good as we get a wide range of songs and musicians being highlight. As I said, pretty much everything except for Dylan is covered and there's no question that rock fans will enjoy all the classic tracks.
