Easy Virtue is based on a three-act play written in 1924 by English playwright Noël Coward [1899-1973], first performed on Broadway the following year, and made into a silent movie, Alfred Hitchock's Easy Virtue (1927), in 1928. The screenplay for this version of Easy Virtue was written by Australian screenwriters Stephan Elliott (who also directed the movie) and Sheridan Jobbins.
The movie is set in the 1920s, just like the play.
