'Euphoria' wins Golden Lion cub award
VENICE, Italy -- Ivan Vyrypaev's Ejforija (Euphoria) was the winner of the 18th Leoncino d'Oro award at the Venice Film Festival organizers announced Friday, the first significant prize of the 63rd edition of the Venice festival. The Leoncino d'Oro -- the name means Golden Lion cub, a play on the main Venice prize, the Leone d'Oro, or Golden Lion -- is selected by 26 local youths, and has had an uncanny history of predicting the winner of Venice's main prize. In 17 previous editions, the winner of the Leoncino d'Oro has won the Leone d'Oro six times. And the winner has in every edition gone on to win some major international cinema prize elsewhere, according to Luciana Della Fornace, director of Agiscuola, a sponsor of the prize.
