“West Side Story” actor Ansel Elgort is set to star in “Faster Than Horses,” a survival thriller directed by Emmy nominee James Erskine (“Shooting for Socrates “) and produced by survival expert Bear Grylls.

Inspired by a true story and based on an article by Hampton Sides, “Faster Than Horses” follows a former Olympic runner who attempts a return to glory in the world’s toughest footrace, the Marathon des Sables, a series of back-to-back marathons across the Sahara Desert. But when a devastating sandstorm engulfs the race, he finds himself lost in the Sahara Desert, locked in a 10-day battle not for victory, but for survival.

The film is currently in pre-production and will be unveiled to international distributors at the AFM which kicks on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas. Upgrade will handle international sales, with CAA Media Finance repping North American rights.

“The Chosen” creator Dallas Jenkins has launched 5&2 Studios and has unveiled a slate of projects in the works — including an animated series, an unscripted show with Bear Grylls and a multi-season take on the story of Moses.

According to 5&2 Studios’ mission statement, the indie studio plans to “produce Bible-inspired stories through uniquely human and authentic storytelling and audience engagement.” Jenkins was set to announce the new studio and his upcoming programming plans — as well as the roll out of the final two seasons of “The Chosen” — during this weekend’s “ChosenCon” in Orlando, Fla. That two-day gathering of fans features cast members and producers behind the series, which began as a crowdfunded indie short in 2017 but since has become a global smash.

Earlier this year, an arbitrator ended the relationship between Jenkins’ The Chosen LLC and former partner Angel Studios, giving Jenkins oversight of “The Chosen” as he now builds out 5&2 Studios.

Hulu has planned to churn out some amazing content in August. From the premiere of highly awaited original shows to the streaming release of blockbuster films, the streaming platform has a lot to offer.

For starters, we are getting the fourth season of the hit mystery comedy-drama, Only Murders in the Building. But that’s not all! Here are all the shows and films being added on Hulu in August 2024:

Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.

The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.

Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. Freely, the new free streaming service backed by Britain’s public service broadcasters (PSBs) that delivers live TV over broadband, has launched. The initiative is from Everyone TV, the organization which runs free TV in the U.K. and is jointly owned by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Paramount Global’s Channel 5. Announced last year, the service allows viewers to browse and watch live TV channels together with on-demand content streamed to their smart TV via the internet. Freely will be built-in to the next generation of smart TVs and features a lineup of public service broadcaster content and other free-to-air channels.

Content from Stv and S4C, free-to-air public service broadcasters for Scotland and Wales respectively, is also available on Freely. Hisense, previously announced as the first Freely smart TV partner, brings Freely TVs to market today. TiVo will be offering Freely as part of its TiVo Os platform.

TV personality Bear Grylls shared a heartfelt family photograph on Instagram to commemorate son Marmaduke‘s 18th birthday. The image features Grylls, Marmaduke, and his wife, Shara Cannings Knight, and it has sparked surprise across the internet due to Marmaduke’s enormous height.

Based on the best-selling memoir “Arthur – The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home” by Mikael Lindnord, it details a group of mountain climbers who, on a competition, meet the little dog, who ends up being a key member of the team. Wahlberg plays a character based on Lindnord, the elite Swedish athlete who gave meatballs to a starving stray dog that ended up changing his life. (Lindnord ended up writing another book about how rescue dogs save our lives.)

It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. While the streamer’s own original content is somewhat limited – Life + Beth is returning for season 2 – you can also catch the new series of Feud this month. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.

The industry is as globalized as it’s ever been, but breakout hits are appearing in pockets of the world all the time and it can be hard to keep track… So, we’re going to do the hard work for you.

This week we head to the Wild West of the German online content creator community, where a group of YouTubers have forged an unexpected digital hit in a space usually reserved for traditional TV channels: adventure reality. 7 Vs Wild takes the peril and jeopardy of Alone or Naked & Afraid and gives it a YouTube twist to build communities and followers around its episodes. Amazon Freevee recently picked up rights to launch an original third season, proving digital and linear can work harmoniously together.

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.

The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.

That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. That will be followed by South Korean sci-fi series Moving on Aug. 9, Solar Opposites season 4 on Aug. 14, and A Murder at the End of the World on Aug. 29. Of course,...

With its list of new releases for May 2023, Hulu is relying on an acclaimed original and a whole lotta FX.

The acclaimed original in question in The Great season 3. Premiering on May 12, this historical black comedy with continue the story of Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) and her pal Peter III (Nicholas Hoult). The other Hulu original series of note this month is The Clearing on May 24. Based on the best-selling crime novel In the Clearing this story will follow a story inspired by the real life events behind Australian cult “The Family.”

For its other TV options in May, Hulu is turning to its cable partner FX. Class of ’09, an FBI thriller starring Kate Mara and Brian Tyree Henry, premieres on May 10. That will be followed by The Secrets of Hillsong, a docuseries investigating the controversial church on May 20.

“The Great” returns to Hulu for Season 3 on May 12. Elle Fanning portrays Catherine the Great, desperate to turn Russia into an enlightened nation, while Nicholas Hoult plays Peter III, her libertine husband. Despite marital problems, including Catherine’s attempt to murder him, Peter now claims to be in love with his wife. The show, loosely based on history, takes a snarky, sexy, and irreverent ride through 18th-century Russia. Catherine was the longest-running female ruler in the nation’s history.

Exclusive: Bear Grylls has unveiled an original content slate for Outdoors.com, the adventure site and streaming platform he recently acquired alongside Nashville-based digital investor Savage Ventures.

The slate will be part of a relaunch of Outdoors.com aimed at making the platform “the home of adventure,” with Grylls also contributing content while overseeing its general direction. You can read a full Q&a with him below.

Michael Matthews was the youngest Briton to summit Everest, but just three hours after he reached the peak, he went missing. His brother, Spencer, who was aged 10 when Michael went missing and died, had always struggled to accept his death, in part because his family did not have a body to mourn.

Then, in 2017, Spencer’s family was sent a picture by a climber that showed what appeared to be a dead body buried in the snow, in a similar location on the mountain to where Michael went missing.

Bear Grylls quickly became synonymous with the outdoors and survival after the release of his show, Man vs. Wild. TV fans watched each week to see how Grylls would survive tricky situations out in the wild.

Man vs. Wild ended in 2011 and apparently, Grylls can’t stay indoors. Now he’s filming Running Wild with Bear Grylls and taking other celebrities on his adventures. Channing Tatum is one of his famous “victims,” and he has a few things to say about his time with Grylls.

Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth visited Karnataka's Bandipur Tiger Reserve to shoot an episode for Discovery channel's popular programme 'Man vs Wild' with host Bear Grylls, an official said on Tuesday.

Zac Efron is ready to tap into his hunter-gatherer DNA for a new adventure series for Quibi, the upcoming mobile-only streaming service from Jeffrey Katzenberg, the company shared on Wednesday morning.

The show, dubbed “Killing Zac Efron,” will place the “Greatest Showman” actor on an empty and dangerous island for three weeks. Looking to add his name to the list of exploration greats, Efron will have nothing but “basic gear, a guide partner and a will to survive” to help get him through his journey through the jungle, according to Quibi’s announcement.

Bear Grylls, the face of survival and outdoor adventure television, and his longtime producing partner, Delbert Shoopman, have teamed with leading global production and distribution powerhouse Banijay Group to launch production company The Natural Studios, which will produce both non-scripted and scripted adventure content.

The company, with Grylls and Shoopman as co-CEOs, is funded by Banijay, which serves as its production and distribution partner. Grylls and Shoopman will maintain full strategic control, Banijay said. The outfit will “develop original IP with mass global appeal and nurture the next generation of adrenaline-fueled TV stars worldwide,” according to a statement.

Grylls said: “At its heart this is about building the ultimate home of adventure programming worldwide. The Natural Studios will be providing a home for the best adventure talent to help them create shows with us that inspire and move people to go for it in their lives and to never give up.

In a bid to raise awareness about the environment and wildlife conservation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be seen in an upcoming episode of Discovery's Man vs. Wild series, hosted by British TV adventurer Bear Grylls.

The episode will premiere simultaneously on 12 Discovery channels in India on Aug. 12. It also will be available in five languages and will be showcased in more than 180 countries around the world.

Jake Gyllenhaal is coming to television. The Oscar nominee is set to star in and produce “Lake Success,” a limited series for HBO based on the novel by Gary Shteyngart, with the author himself serving as co-writer and -showrunner alongside Tom Spezialy. It will be Gyllenhaal’s first time starring in a TV series. “Lake Success” follows Barry Cohen, a hedge-fund manager who leaves behind his wife and autistic son in New York as he embarks on a cross-country bus ride to track down his college girlfriend.

“Gary’s novel is a beautifully executed character study highlighting the depth of human contradiction and complication, set against the timely backdrop of America today,” said Gyllenhaal and co-executive producer Riva Marker in a joint statement. “We are thrilled to partner with HBO, who has consistently been home to some of the most exciting and acclaimed premium content over the past two decades.

Each episode features a viewer-involved experience with multiple choices, where a user can direct the course of the story. As Netflix warns in the logline: Dense jungles, towering mountains, brutal deserts and mysterious forests await, with tough decisions around every corner. In this interactive adventure series, you make all the decisions, and whether or not Grylls succeeds or fails is totally up to you.

“If you don’t make the right choices,” Grylls admonishes us in the trailer, “it might not end well for me.

Just a week after Netflix announced it’s “doubling down” on interactive content thanks to the success of Bandersnatch, it’s unveiled its next interactive project — and this one is more than a little wild.

The series, You vs. Wild, stars survival expert Bear Grylls. It’s a twist on his popular Discovery Channel series Man vs. Wild, where, in each episode, Grylls is stranded in a remote, harsh environment. Over the course of the episode, he self-films his entire journey as he hikes out of the environment solo, with few or no tools on hand. That series, which originally ran from 2006 to 2011, was meant to give viewers a very real and practical look at how to survive extreme situations.

Following the recent success of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Netflix has set its next interactive series. The Internet network said today that You vs. Wild, an eight-episode interactive family series fronted by survival expert and TV veteran Bear Grylls, will premiere April 10.

The streamer had ramped up its efforts in interactive storytelling in light of the strong buzz and fan engagement for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which became an instant pop culture phenomenon.

Composer Benjamin Wallfisch’s music for National Geographic’s six-part natural history series “Hostile Planet” will be released by Milan Records in an uncoventional three-part configuration over two months.

Adventurer Bear Grylls and producer Mark Burnett have teamed to revive the “Eco-Challenge” race franchise that launched Burnett’s career in unscripted TV.

Grylls will host and executive produce with Burnett for MGM Television a new edition of the 1990s adventure series. “Eco-Challenge” sends more than 50 teams out on a 300-mile adventure course that encompasses mountaineering, horseback riding, sea kayaking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, camel riding and more. Each team has four members, two men and two women.

Burnett, who is also president of MGM Television and Digital, created “Eco-Challenge” in 1992 when he was at the outset of his TV career. The first race was held in Utah in 1995. The series ran for 10 cycles over eight years on Discovery Channel and USA Network. It was the precursor to Burnett’s enduring reality franchise, CBS’ “Survivor.”

The man known as the "man" in Man Vs. Wild is getting ready to launch his latest show. A trailer has arrived for Bear Grylls: Face The Wild one week before the show's premiere date.

In Man Vs. Wild, Grylls showed viewers how they can survive on their own in extreme environments, but his new program will show that you don't need to be willing to drink your own piss to have a good time outdoors. In each episode, Grylls will invite an ordinary person to go on an adventure with him, and will promptly set out in search of rugged woods, mountains, and rivers.
