Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
Time travel is all the rage on television. Between Legends of Tomorrow, Timeless, Frequency, Time after Time, 12 Monkeys and last year’s 11.22.63, which I’m currently watching, forget about the butterfly effect; this is deja vu. Yet, Fox decided to add another time traveler to the schedule: the ultra-goofy buddy comedy Making History. I gotta say though, it’s not exactly living up to its title…
Created by Julius Sharpe (Family Guy), Making History is decidedly more Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure than Primer. It centers on Dan (Adam Pally), a lowly, average guy who spends his work days in a janitorial position in a local college and his weekends (and occasional Tuesdays) traveling back to 1775, via a duffel bag time-traveler, to meet his Colonel girlfriend, Deborah (Leighton Meester). Inherited from his late father, Dan is unambitious but certainly not malicious with his gift.

Need a good laugh, but only got an hour and a half? Might we recommend this little lot...
I’m of the firm belief that films work most effectively when their runtime is 90 minutes or less. It forces an economy of story and dialogue which propels the film into its best self. No bloated middle, extended ending, or wasted stories here. This goes double for comedies. They should never outstay their welcome. But they seem to be getting longer, as we recently pointed out here.
So to refresh your movie comedy palette, here are 25 films that are 90 minutes or under. I’ve tried to avoid the more obvious ones, and shine a light on those comedies which might have gone a bit unappreciated over the years, but are well worth a hour and a half of your time. This lean runtime isn’t a guarantee of greatness of course,...

It starred Craig Roberts and Gethin Anthony in that incarnation.
Now The Missing's Harry and Jack Williams are the ones behind the scripts, with Jamie Magnus Stone directing.

E4 prepares to welcome Aliens and Tripped to its schedules, two newly commissioned sci-fi comedy dramas…
As we expanded upon here, there’s plenty for fans of UK sci-fi and fantasy TV to get excited about over the next year or so.
Freshly commissioned to join the likes of Jonathan Strange And Mr Norrell, Humans and more, are Tripped and Aliens, original sci-fi comedy dramas coming to E4.
Tripped began life as Alt, a parallel world comedy pilot written by Doctor Who and Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel’s Jamie Mathieson. In its first incarnation, Alt starred Craig Roberts and Gethin Anthony as the stoner and his mate who find themselves tripping between multiple parallel universe versions of their own lives and running from an assassin in the process. Androids, magic, parallel worlds, ghostly crime, and the apocalypse. Here’s a raft of new forthcoming UK sci-fi and fantasy TV…
The superhero genre may be taking up residence in cinemas for the foreseeable, and Game Of Thrones and The Walking Dead are leading Us TV's genre output, but what can fans of UK sci-fi and fantasy look forward to seeing on television over the next year?
There’s Doctor Who of course, which appears to be in rude health and going nowhere, a Christmas Special from Black Mirror, and a hint of new Red Dwarf on its way. (And of course, if there’s anything like justice in the world, the terrific In The Flesh will be recommissioned for a third series.)
If though, you’re thirsting for something new, 2015 is promising to deliver a handful of geek TV gems. We’ve scoured the new UK commission announcements for anything spooky,...

The writer of Mummy On The Orient Express and Flatline, Jamie Mathieson, talks us through his Doctor Who experience....
Even before the credits had rolled on his second Doctor Who episode, Flatline, people were asking if writer Jamie Mathieson would be back for series 9 of the show. But Mathieson's path to Doctor Who goes right the way back to his original pitch in 2004, via a feature film screenplay (Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel, his writing on Being Human and a further, unsuccessful Who pitch.
We caught up with Mathieson, once Mummy On The Orient Express and Flatline - his first two Doctor Who adventures - had screened. And he took us through his Doctor Who experience...
You've said before that you arrived at your Doctor Who pitch meeting with four episodes outlined. First thing then: what's a Doctor Who pitch meeting actually like?
A Doctor Who pitch meeting is fairly banal really.

Jamie Mathieson has taken on two episodes of the upcoming Doctor Who series 8...

A bit more news has come to light about Doctor Who series 8, with the reveal of who's written another one of the episodes of the upcoming run. And, it's been revealed, it's Jamie Mathieson.
Mathieson, who is already down for episode eight of Peter Capaldi's maiden series in the Tardis, has also penned the ninth episode as well we now hear. To the best of our knowledge, though, it's not a two-part story that he's written. Don't be surprised if we're proved wrong, though.
Mathieson, who has previously written episodes of Being Human and Dirk Gently, is making his Doctor Who debut with his two adventures. He also wrote the movie Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel.

E4 have announced details of their new drama pilot Alt.
The 60-minute pilot - written by Jamie Mathieson (Being Human, Faq About Time Travel) - enters production this month, and will be directed by Ben Caron (My Mad Fat Diary).
Alt stars Gethin Anthony (Game of Thrones) as 24-year-old Danny, who finds himself transported to a parallel universe with his ex-best friend Milo, played by Craig Roberts (Submarine).
The full synopsis for the new drama reads: "Imagine: that mate you dumped months ago because he's a tool, rings you out of the blue and asks for help. You go round and he's tripping. Banging on about parallel worlds and killers with swords and you're not really listening to be honest.
"And the next thing you know the world's changed. Literally changed. Your girlfriend, who was kind of the love of your life, no longer even recognises you. Dead relatives are suddenly alive again.

One of the greatest things about film festivals, something that can even get you through the worst films, the lack of sleep, and the terrible B.O. of your fellow moviegoers, is the chance to discover new talent. You'll see absolute newcomers blast off into the stratosphere, or relatively well-known faces suddenly show off what they've always been capable of, and it's never less than a thrill.
And this year's Cannes Film Festival was no exception. With the festival now in the rear-view mirror, we've picked out five major talents who broke out at this year's festival, and whom we're certain we'll be hearing more from in the years to come. Check them out below, and if you were in Cannes, feel free to weigh in with your own suggestions too.

All independent filmmakers dream of seeing their film on the big screen. Seeing it appear on a pirate site first can mean financial death. However, becoming a ‘Filmmaker2.0’ will arm a director or producer against pirates, to turn a torrent into a revenue stream. Colin Delaney reports.
It’s the 21 Century filmmaker’s worst nightmare. Online piracy is costing the global industry billions of dollars. According to a recent report the Australian screen industry is worth $6.1B and supports 48,667 jobs. While this number is up by 5.1% since 2006-07, a study on behalf of the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (Afact) showed that $1.37B in revenue was lost across the entire Australian economy due to movie and TV piracy while 6,100 jobs were forgone in 2010.
Filmmakers these days are well aware of the importance of protecting themselves against piracy before their film’s life has run its course but it only takes...

Cary Elwes (Saw 3D) is going to be voicing the role of George Harrison next year in a 3D motion captured reinvention of that old cartoon, which some yield as a classlic, Yellow Submarine. Robert Zemeckis is on directorial duties and besides Elwes, Paul McCartney will be voiced by Peter Serafinowicz (the voice of Darth Maul), Ringo will be voiced by Adam Campbell and John Lennon will get the vocal treatment by Dean Lennox Kelly (Faq About Time Travel). The movie will be a mo-cap event so the actors will not only be voicing their roles, they will also be performing them as well. Personally I never saw the original flick, and truth be told I have zero interest in going to see this. While I like the Beatles music, I wouldn’t class myself as a fan and I wonder, in particular, how many Beatles fans will look upon...

Gareth Carrivick’s ‘Faq About Time Travel’ has a terrific opening scene: An armada of spaceships is closing in on a big blue planet. Inside one of the ships, a British star-trooper is informing his crew of time raiders that they will go back to a point prior to their enemies’ evolution and wipe them out.
He’s salty and irritated and when he begins swearing, there’s the sound of children crying on the soundtrack. This ‘commander’ is Ray (Chris O’Dowd), a blue-collar worker at a children’s amusement park who is having a meltdown in the time-travel ride.
After Ray traumatizes a boatload of adolescents and loses his job, he and his buddies, Toby & Pete (they work in the park too as big plush dinosaurs) head out to the local pub to drown out their troubles and swap geek anecdotes while trying to hit upon that one...

Looks like the cast is coming together for Robert Zemeckis' next project, which of course, will be yet another 3-D performance capture film along the lines of Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. It was announced last summer [1] that Zemeckis would be remaking the classic animated Beatles film Yellow Submarine, and now he has four actors in mind to play the Fab Four on screen. According to THR's Heat Vision Blog [2], the following actors are currently in negotiations to play John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr: Dean Lennox Kelly (Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Saw), Peter Serafinowicz (Couples Retreat, The Peter Serafinowicz Show), and Adam Campbell (Epic Movie, Harper's Island). They don't really look like any of The Beatles, but that doesn't matter since their movements will simply be mapped to 3-D representations of the characters. It also doesn't matter...

Anyone who knows comedian Peter Serafinowicz' work knows he can do a killer Paul McCartney impression. And now he'll get the chance to show the world - though the medium of performance capture, at least - in Robert Zemeckis' remake of cartoon Beatles musical Yellow Submarine. Zemeckis has plumped for a surprisingly eclectic bunch of performers to play the band members in his new film - Dean Lennox Kelly, of Shameless and (more recently) Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel, is John Lennon, Cary Elwes - who worked on Christmas Carol with the director - is George Harrison and Epic Movie's Adam Campbell is Ringo Starr. But in an odd twist, they won't be needed for the musical numbers - that duty will fall to tribute band Fab 4, who will be playing along to actual Beatles tracks. Sounds like overkill, if you ask us. Still, we're delighted...

Just a few days back Robert Carlyle used the Scottish BAFTAs as a platform to voice his displeasure of the British film industry. There have been no decent films produced here, he said, since Trainspotting.
Studying Carlyle’s words, he has a point; the cinematic output of Great Britain primarily regurtiates the same type of film over and over. Chief amongst them are the kitchen sink tragedy and the costume drama. However, there is a third type of high profile movie produced on these shores which generally lead to much commercial success. This genre can be, for all intents and purposes, attributed to one man. This, the third entry into the British cinema canon, is the “Richard Curtis movie”.
Since graduating from television writing, Curtis has pioneered an individualistic approach to the world of cinema relying heavily on picture postcard locations in Southern England, syrupy sentiment, “comedy” swearing and middle-class males indulging in linguistic mishaps.

Time travel is unpredictable business. Just ask the blokes of the UK movie “Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel”, a sci-fi comedy that barely has any big-budget special effects, but still manages to be pretty darn good if you enjoy wacky stories about time paradoxes, hot girls from the future, and drinks in a pub. The film stars Chris O’Dowd as Ray, an enthusiastic nerd (or “imagineer”, as he insists on being called) with a penchant for sci-fi and a fountain of useless time travel knowledge. Along with buddies Toby (Marc Wootton) and Pete (Dean Lennox Kelly), Ray stumbles across a “time leak” in, appropriately enough, the bathroom of their local pub. He also meets Cassie (Anna Faris), a pretty American time travel fixer of sorts from the future. Cassie’s occupation comes in handy when Ray and the boys begin to stumble in and out of the pub’s bathroom,...

The very cute Anna Faris and a trio of clueless British drinking buddies try to save the future of mankind (ruled, apparently, by Americans) in “Frequently Asked Questions about Time Travel”, or “Faq About Time Travel” for you types concern with brevity. Images from the movie plus a UK quad poster (they are so much cooler than our American ones, aren’t they?) after the jump. The script, written by Jamie Mathieson, follows three social outcasts — two geeks and a cynic — as they attempt to navigate a time-travel conundrum in the middle of a British pub. Faris plays a girl from the future who sets the adventure in motion. Starring Anna Faris, Dean Lennox Kelly, Marc Wootton, Chris O’Dowd, and directed by Gareth Carrivick. The space-time rift opens in the UK on April 24. If you missed it, check out the trailer for the movie here.

Graham Linehan's 'The It Crowd' has received a BAFTA Television Award nomination for Best Situation Comedy. The sitcom of which Linehan (Father Ted, Black Books) created, stars Irish actor Chris O'Dowd who plays an It technician in a fictitious British corporation. It's unfortunate that Garth Jennings' adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was such a commercial failure, because now instead of looking forward to more sequels based on the work of Douglas Adams, we have to settle for imitations like Gareth Carrivick's Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel. That must also be why they have chosen to market this as "Shaun of the Dead meets Dr. Who", but I suppose if you're in the market for a quirky British sci-fi comedy, it doesn't look all that bad. Entering a bar and meeting a woman who claims she comes from the future, three ordinary blokes are about to get into an adventure of a lifetime as seen in the brand new international trailer of "Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel". With the running time of less than two minutes, the promo video presents snippets of what the three experience while they are caught in accidental time travels.
"Faq About Time Travel" follows two geeks and a cynic as they fall into a series of accidental trips back and forth through time. Hoping to get a distraction from their ordinary life, Pete, Ray and Toby go to their local pub for an average night out. After Ray was approached by a woman from the future, Pete stumbles through a time leak and sees the future which shows that all of the people in the bar will be dead.

Admittedly when I first found out about this film a while ago, I thought it sounded completely stupid.. but after hearing it's "time travel meets shaun of the dead" (of course without the zombies) and watching the trailer, I'm sold. It even has some money post apocalyptic shots with huge killer ants.
Chris O'Dowd, Marc Wootton, Dean Lennox Kelly star as three ordinary blokes who may hold the fate of the entire world in their hands when they discover a rift in the space-time continuum in the gents' of their local pub.
I know that sounds lame, so just watch the trailer after the break. via filmstalker...
