UTA Independent Film Group has acquired Uwe Boll’s upcoming migrant crisis thriller “Run,” starring Emmy and Tony award winner Amanda Plummer (“Star Trek: Picard”) and James Russo (“Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1”).
UTA will handle global sales for the pic, produced by Boll’s U.S.-Canadian shingle Event Film and his German outfit Bolu.
UTA takes over from the film’s initial sales company, Stuttgart-based Kinostar, headed by “Run” executive producer Michael Roesch. The move is seen as an advantage for potential worldwide deals.
“We are thrilled to work with UTA for the global sales of ‘Run’ and can’t wait to introduce the movie to audiences around the world,” said Boll.
“We are excited that UTA loves the strong performances of our ensemble cast as much as we do, and we can’t wait to start working with them,” added Roesch.

After a long break from feature films, director Uwe Boll is back and ready to roll with his latest project, a crime drama about two mismatched New York City cops on their first day as partners.
“First Shift” stars Kristen Renton (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Gino Anthony Pesi (“Shades of Blue”) as the badge-carrying duo, she a transplant from Atlanta new to the Big Apple, he a jaded Brooklyn cop who prefers to work alone but forced to take on the new partner.
Set to start shooting in New York City next month, “First Shift” has moved ahead of two other projects Boll has in the works, a South Africa-set thriller and a feature about Prohibition-era federal agent Eliot Ness — famously played by Kevin Costner and Robert Stack in the 1987 film and the 1959 series “The Untouchables” — during the latter part of his career.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for director Nate Parker’s The Birth Of A Nation.
Set against the antebellum South, The Birth Of A Nation follows Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.
In his Sundance Film Festival review, The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy says the film, “offers up more than enough in terms of intelligence, insight, historical research and religious nuance to not at all be considered a missed opportunity. Far more of the essentials made it into the film than not; its makers’ dedication and minute attention are constantly felt, and the subject matter is still rare enough onscreen as to be welcome and needed,...

Prolific German director Uwe Boll tells EW that he plans to make a film about the financial crisis called Bail Out, and a fourth BloodRayne movie, even though the straight-to-dvd third entry in the vampire franchise won’t be released until early summer. “I have two projects in development,” says the filmmaker. “One is BloodRayne 4, to make some money. And one is Bail Out, about the financial crisis. It’s a thriller where a guy actually strikes back and starts killing all the investment bankers.”

Uwe Boll has managed to shock and offend again in his obese-ploitation film Blubberella. Turning World War II into a comedy seems to be distasteful, but filmmaker Roberto Benigni found some laughs with this subject in his award winning film Life is Beautiful. However, Blubberella is not likely to win many awards as an "overweight woman [uses] dual swords...against anyone who make fun of her" (Quiet). Here katanas seem to be loaves of French bread, as seen in the trailer below.
One really needs to wonder what Boll is doing some days. Sometimes he comes up with an excellent commentary on the prevalence of North American violence in Rampage. Then, he turns a video game into a franchise e.g. Bloodrayne and Alone in the Dark. His inconsistency is what draws questions. So, please Boll stick to making films with relevant social commentaries like Darfur and leave the easily targeted overweight women alone.

I miss the Uwe Boll that made bad video game movies we could at the very least laugh at. I much prefer that Uwe Boll to the morose Uwe Boll who now mostly makes movies that wallow in human misery - prison rape, Vietnam savagery, Columbine-style massacres, African genocide - and now he's making a movie called Auschwitz graphically detailing the horrors that went on in that most notorious of Nazi concentration camps.
Twitch broke the news that Uwe Boll has made a movie about one of the greatest horrors in human history. Quoting Dr. Boll:
"It's in the tradition of my movies Stoic, Darfur, Rampage, Tunnel Rats, Heart of America...it shows Auschwitz as what it was: a meat plant for humans...a death factory."
As opposed to all those other Holocaust movies over the years that made Auschwitz seem like a happy place for Jews?

Director/writer: Uwe Boll.
Director Uwe Boll is mostly known for his film adaptations of video games like Alone in the Dark, Far Cry, Postal and others. However, few know of his stand alone pictures like Tunnel Rats and Darfur, which take on political issues like genocide and the global military Amercanization of the world. In Boll's latest featured, entitled Rampage from Phase 4 Films, this German born director takes on several contemporary issues including the scarcity of resources, overpopulation, and the limiting nature of capitalization. These and other plot devices get treatment in Boll's film. Yet, centrally Boll's Rampage is a film about frustration and violence as one young man takes on a whole city primarily for Boll to rant about the constraints of a modern world.
The film follows character Bill, played brilliantly and stoically by Brendan Fletcher (Hot Tub Time Machine), as he compiles a long list of armaments and body armour.

Uwe Boll's latest will release June 1st on DVD through Phase 4 Films (Rampage). Boll is often regarded as one of the worst directors in cinema. However, there are some films of Boll's that have turned out digestable e.g. Tunnel Rats. Rampage could turn out to be one of his better films based on reviews. In Rampage Bill starts a one man war with society. Guess who wins? The DVD artwork can be seen here with a synopsis below. Is Boll transitioning into a quality filmmaker? That might be a stretch at this point. Yet, Darfur and Rampage both have potential. A trailer for this release is inside.
The synopsis for Rampage here:
"The boredom of small town life is eating Bill Williamson alive. Feeling constrained and claustrophobic in the meaningless drudgery of everyday life and helpless against overwhelming global dissolution, Bill (Brendan Fletcher) begins a descent into madness.

It has been a confusing day on the "Captain America" casting front with one of the previously rumoured contenders moving to the forefront and then later being shot down.
In the morning Fox 411 apparently confirmed an old Cinematical scoop that it is "very likely" that "The Office" star John Krasinski will be the new Steve Rogers as "he is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week". Krasinski has already read for the role four times and screen tested twice with the multiple actresses up for the female leads to ensure chemistry.
Hold on though, now Deadline New York and later Heat Vision both reports that Marvel Studios has expanded its search while at the same time cutting down on the original candidates list which apparently does not include Krasinski in the new short list. The names that are still...

Matt’s Take:
I must confess, this is the first Uwe Boll film I’ve ever seen. And if he continues down this path, it may very well be the last.
Rampage is a story about a douchebag kid who’s got a terrible job, is something of a loner, and has no prospects in life. He gets treated like crap at work, at restaurants, and his parents are sick of him living at home. He just can’t get a break… which is why he must go on a Rampage, brutally murdering everyone who has insulted him and finally getting his justified revenge!! Hmm, now that film sounds kind of cool. It perhaps sounds like a Falling Down, but where Michael Douglass is the hero, right? In fact, even Uwe Boll himself compared Rampage to that version of Falling Down, which I must confess, got me very excited for the movie.

The world's worst filmmaker could very well be Uwe Boll. Of his 16 films, only three have an aggregate IMDb rating over 4 out of 10. The highest is Tunnel Rats with a whopping 4.3 out of ten. He has just as many below a 2. More than likely, his name means more to you than the movies: BloodRayne, Postal, In the Name of the King, and House of the Dead. Their reputations precede them.
Expect no love story or delicate character study here in his latest, a film called Rampage. It's about a guy who builds a kevlar suit and goes walking into town shooting everybody he sees. Deep, rich. The inciting incident? The barista who screwed up his macchiato. That's right: Uwe Boll is now stealing ideas from high school student short films.

In stores this week, most of the major DVD releases are pretty terrible... but we're here to help you weed through the crap to find a few gems. For the masochists, there's a serious helping of movies that are "so bad they're good" out today, including Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, 12 Rounds, Transmorphers: Fall of Man, and Uwe Boll's Tunnel Rats. Look beyond that though and you've got Fred Durst's critically-acclaimed The Education of Charlie Banks, the Michel Gondry/Joon-ho Bong/Leos Carax triptych Tokyo!, and a new 20th Anniversary Edition of Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing, not to mention Eastbound & Down: The Complete First Season and the long-awaited first season of 1990 comedy Parker Lewis Can't Lose! My life is officially complete. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li [1] (DVD, Blu-ray [2]) 12 Rounds [3] (DVD, Blu-ray [4]) The Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience [5] (DVD, Blu-ray [6]) Two Lovers [7] (DVD,...

I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys the career misadventures of Uwe Boll. Despite producing exactly zero profitable movies at the U.S. box office, and with an aggregate IMDb rating of 2.7, Boll continues to crank out B-movie after B-movie, somehow attracting producers and actors after all these failures.
His...we'll just call it work, for lack of a better term, has finally been singled out by the voters for the Golden Raspberry Awards. We know them better as The Razzies, and they shine a light on the year's worst in film. This year, Boll won Worst Director for the films Postal, 1968: Tunnel Rats, and In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. But that was only the beginning.
Uwe also received the Worst Career Achievement award, for a filmography that includes Alone in the Dark, a couple of BloodRayne movies, and House of the Dead.

Myers' Love Guru Sweeps Razzies
Mike Myers was shamed as the "worst actor in Hollywood" at the 2009 Golden Raspberries, a spoof movie awards ceremony.
The comedian's film The Love Guru dominated the 29th annual event, taking home Razzies for worst picture, screenplay and actor on Saturday - a day before the Academy Awards celebrates Tinseltown's finest.
Paris Hilton scored a triple dishonour, winning awards for worst actress for her part in The Hottie and the Nottie and worst supporting actress for her cameo in Repo! The Genetic Opera.
Hilton was also included in the worst screen couple alongside her Hottie co-stars, Christine Lakin and Joel David Moore.
Neither the heiress nor funnyman Myers were present to collect their gold spray-painted Raspberry statuettes.
Pierce Brosnan was named worst supporting actor for his singing turn in Mamma Mia!, while the worst-director Razzie went to Uwe Boll for his three films In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, 1968 Tunnel Rats, and Postal.

Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced the "winners" of their 29th Annual Razzie Awards on Saturday February 21, and "The Love Guru" came out in front of the pack, nabbing the most kudos on the night. Nominated for five categories, the Marco Schnabel-directed film landed three titles, including Worst Picture.
For the Worst Picture throphy, "Guru" won over "Disaster Movie", "Meet the Spartans", "The Happening", "The Hottie and the Nottie" and "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale". Aside from that award, the comedy movie also grabbed Worst Actor for its leading star Mike Myers and Worst Screenplay for both Myers and Graham Gordy.
Another multiple awards-recipient on the event was "The Hottie and the Nottie". The romantic comedy has been given two Worst titles, Worst Actress and Worst Screen Couple. Both of the awards were earned by its leading actress Paris Hilton, but for the screen couple category,...

Director: Uwe Boll. Review: Adam Wing. Fans of quality filmmaking beware, Uwe boll is back behind the camera and this time he’s taking no prisoners. If you’ve never heard of Uwe Boll then stop reading now, you still have time to erase his name from your memory, a name synonymous with the worst kinds of cinematic evil. Still reading? Damn you, damn you all to Z-movie madness for ever. In The Name Of The King, BloodRayne, Alone In The Dark and my personal ‘favourite’, House Of The Dead. Sound familiar? They certainly should do, they’re the kind of movies we’ve all been forced to witness at one time or another and we all use the same tired excuses. The artwork was misleading, Blockbuster’s had nothing else in, and I swear I never put that one on my rental list. Whatever the reasoning, the outcome is always the same.

When the Razzie Awards nominations were announced this morning, it was obvious that voters are really smitten with Mike Myers' "The Love Guru" — it leads with the most nominations (seven), including a worst picture bid. Mike Myers, up for worst actor and screenplay as well as one for producing the picture, was previously in the Razzies race five years ago for "Cat in the Hat," but was underwhelmed by the Ben Affleck-Jennifer Lopez mismatch "Gigli."
In second place with six Razzie bids, including a worst picture nod, is the combo of "Disaster Movie" and "Meet the Spartans," which are grouped together because they're "two films from the same two talent-free writer/directors, both featuring essentially the same cast," says the Razzie press release.
By comparison, it looks like Paris Hilton's "The Hottie & the Nottie" was robbed! It only has five nominations despite being ranked by IMDb...

The Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) are a time honored tradition of non-excellence recognizing the worst movies had to offer last year. In 2009, the 29th annual ceremony will be held on February 21, 2009, the traditional day before the Oscars are awarded.
Last year the big “winner” was Lindsay Lohan’s I Know Who Killed Me with a record-breaking eight Razzies.
This year the Razzies are recognizing not just the lack of any discernible talent, but people sick of the repeat awful offenders. Mike Myers, M. Night Shyamalan, Paris Hilton, Uwe Boll, Eddie Murphy, and the spoof movies.
Mike Myer’s The Love Guru lead the garbage with seven nominations including “Worst Picture.” It will compete with the actual worst movie of the year (in my opinion) The Happening. It picked up four nominations, including “Worst Actor” for Mark Wahlberg (also nominated for Max Payne).
Here is your total list of nominees:

It's Turkey Day and what better day for multiple news items about Uwe Boll, the current kingpin of cinematic turkeys? Two news movies, a film retrospective, and a lawsuit: all today for your Boll-tacular Thanksgiving.
Vancouver-based Brightlight Pictures sent out a press release touting production beginning on The Storm, an original (i.e. not based on a video game) horror film being directed by Uwe Boll from a script by Tim McGregor (co-writer of last year's Dtv thriller Ukm: Ultimate Killing Machine and the upcoming Jason Mewes vampire comedy Bitten), and starring 90210 alumni Luke Perry, Turbulence heroine Lauren Holly, and "Andromeda" co-star Steve Bacic.
In the film a stranger named Silas (Luke Perry) emerges from a devastating storm seeking refuge with Tom (Steve Bacic) and Gillian (Lauren Holly) on their farm. As they struggle to deal with the upheaval and disaster left in the wake of the storm, Silas may...

Well, another year of Fantasia has come to an end. The wife and I are headed home today and back to our “normal” lives, which believe it or not is actually something I’m looking forward to. As much fun as this festival is and as much as I love all the people we can hang out with because of it, Fantasia has a way of wiping you out that no other event I go to comes close to. Well, maybe Comic Con...
Our last day of the fest started off with a film from Denmark called Island of Lost Souls. Not nearly as creepy as it sounds, it’s actually an adventure movie in the spirit of films like Harry Potter and its ilk, but with some interesting twists on those films’ conventions that can only come from another culture. It’s not anything you’ll be seeing a review for here,...

I know there were a few bigger things on the agenda in the past couple of weeks, what with The Dark Knight and everything, but how in the hell did we miss this: A positive review of an Uwe Boll movie.
Variety - that's right, good ol' mainstream Variety - has taken a look at Boll's Vietnam movie 1968 Tunnel Rats, and has proclaimed it, "aptly tense and discomforting" and "well-crafted."
Hold on just a second: Uwe Boll? Well-crafted? What in the wide, wide world of sports is a-goin' on here?
There's more:
"Though dialogue (purportedly largely improvised) is not a primary element, Boll's screenplay takes some pains to show sympathetic and fanatical types on both sides, notably in the character of a young Viet Cong mother (Jane Le) who clearly doesn't relish having to kill the enemy."
In all, the trade applauds the performances and technical aspects of Tunnel Rats,...

Boll ejected from big-budget ring
Uwe Boll, the German director the critics love to hate, will return to low-budget filmmaking now that his latest and biggest production, the $70 million fantasy epic In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, bombed at the boxoffice.
The adaptation of the hit video game, which stars Jason Statham, Ron Perlman and Burt Reynolds, delivered just $3 million over the weekend, marking the third flop in a row for Boll, whose BloodRayne and Alone in the Dark also failed to deliver theatrically.
Reached at his home in Mainz, Boll said the results from King mean he will be unable to continue with big-budget productions.
"In the future, I will focus on small films such as (the video game adaptation) Postal or (the Vietnam war drama) Tunnel Rats," he said. "These are films that represent my true passion, and they can be done with small budgets."
Despite a number of critical and commercial drubbings, Boll has been able to finance bigger budget films through German tax shelter funds.
