Yes. Secret Diary of a Call Girl is based on two books, The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl (2005) and The Further Adventures of a London Call Girl (2006) by a London prostitute and writer who uses the nom de plume Belle de Jour. However, it actually goes back further to the blog that Belle has been posting online at http://belledejour-uk.blogspot.com/. In 2003, her blog was selected as 'blog of the year' by The Guardian, which inspired her to write the two books. It is from the blog and these books that episodes of Secret Diary of a Call Girl are taken.

Belle de Jour is a French term that can be translated as "beauty of the day" or as "woman of the day." In the context of the TV series Secret Diary of a Call Girl, it refers to a prostitute.

French writer Joseph Kessel published the novel Belle de Jour in 1928. In 1967, Luis Buñuel based his film of the same name on Kessel's book. Belle de Jour (1967) starred Catherine Deneuve as Séverine Serizy aka Belle de Jour, a frigid housewife who spends her midweek afternoons as a prostitute. It seems likely that Kessel's book and Buñuel's movie inspired the name Belle de Jour, but the blogwriter/bookwriter named Belle de Jour maintains that these are her own memoirs, not a retelling of Kessel's novel, and Orion Books publishes Belle's two novels as NONfiction/memoirs.
