This article contains spoilers for the "Toy Story" movies.
When John Lasseter's "Toy Story" was released in 1995, it was a coup for the industry. CGI had been used in films for a decade and there were myriad computer-animated short films, but the first theatrically released, fully-computer-animated feature changed the landscape. It certainly helped that "Toy Story" was a massive success, raking in over $365 million on a mere $30 million budget. The film was also highly acclaimed, sporting a novel concept (your toys are alive when you aren't looking), an excellent screenplay, and a first-rate cast.
After "Toy Story," it felt like the floodgates opened, and a shift from traditionally animated features to fully computer-animated features occurred within the next five years. One might even recall when Disney announced that it would be shuttering its traditional animation studio and only make computer-animated features going forward. This was slightly before its 2004 film "Home on the Range" flopped.

Former Pixar staffers who worked on “Inside Out 2” claimed they received continuous notes to make the film’s main character, Riley, come across as “less gay,” according to a report in IGN about the film and animation studio.
Among 10 former Pixar employees who spoke to IGN, all whom remained anonymous, one said edits ramped up to “Inside Out 2” after the conclusion of the WGA strike last fall, with special attention given to removing any traces of “romantic chemistry” in the relationship between Riley and supporting character Val. The sources told IGN the edits involved “just doing a lot of extra work to make sure that no one would potentially see them as not straight.”
“In the film, what you saw, nothing about Riley says that she is gay, but it is kind of inferred based on certain contexts. And so that is something that they tried to play down at multiple points,...

You probably will remember the drama that surrounded “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” after its release last year. If you’ve been keeping up with recent news, you might have seen IGN’s report suggesting that Disney has modified its policies on LGBTQ+ scenes in animated films. According to this report, following the controversy over the lesbian kiss in Lightyear, animators were instructed to tone down similar scenes in this year’s Inside Out 2.
While the full impact of these changes is still unfolding, someone who, like Gina Carano and J.K. Rowling recently, tends to make headlines even when not directly involved, has weighed in. Yes, it’s Beau DeMayo.
Although DeMayo’s current dispute with Disney is a separate issue, he has been a prominent online figure, often inserting himself into various stories. In this case, DeMayo alleges that X-Men ’97 was also affected by Disney’s new policy.
As you might be aware, Disney is currently undergoing a transformative period with numerous changes impacting its films and shows.

After a year without a billion-dollar film, Disney is back on track with two movies crossing the billion-dollar mark this year. Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine have both been major hits with audiences.
Pixar’s latest success, Inside Out 2, has earned $652.6 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $1.030 billion internationally, bringing its global total to $1.682 billion.
IGN has revealed intriguing insider reports about Inside Out 2. Animators were reportedly instructed to make Riley, the film’s protagonist, “less gay” to avoid the backlash that Lightyear faced over a same-sex kiss scene.
Lightyear was banned in several Muslim-majority countries due to a same-sex kiss between characters Alisha Hawthorne and her partner Kiko. Although China requested the removal of this scene, Disney refused. The scene was initially cut but later reinstated following Disney’s response to the Florida Parental Rights in Education bill and internal company debates.

Following an entire year without a billion-dollar movie, it looks like Disney is back on great track having two movies that crossed the billion mark this year. We’re naturally talking about ‘Inside Out 2’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ both movies a terrific success with the audiences.

Pixar has been having quite the summer with Inside Out 2, bringing the animation juggernaut back into the limelight after what had been a lukewarm run with a slew of great films. However, it seems that 2024 is shaping up to be quite the brawl for animation giants, as DreamWorks is gearing up to release what seems to be the next animation event of the year.

Over the past few years, Pixar has seen some rather dark days. The Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 caused their film for that year, Onward, to be pulled from theaters early, leading to it flopping at the box office. Their following three releases, Soul, Luca, and Turning Red, were all released directly to streaming to supplement the recently launched Disney+ service. In 2022, they returned to theaters with Lightyear, which burned up on impact at the box office. Then 2023’s Elemental, while not a flop, was a disappointment to many.
But now the studio seems to have its mojo back, with Inside Out 2 breaking multiple box office records from being Disney’s most successful animated film since the pandemic to their most successful Pixar movie to their most successful traditionally animated movie of all time. Now, after an extended theatrical run, has dethroned the 2019 remake of The Lion King and is now...

Michael Giacchino, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated and prolific composers, certainly has enough material for a greatest hits album. He’s created the brilliant scores to “The Incredibles,” “Up,” “Lost” and 2009’s “Star Trek”. An album with cues from these titles (and others that he’d composed), would do gangbusters. But he didn’t want to do just another greatest hits album.
Instead, he thought about his uncle Pete, who lived outside of Philadelphia. Uncle Pete, you see, owned an appliance store.
“He also sold stereos, and at the stereos were those big console stereos which we love. And RCA would send him tons of these demo records for the customers, so they can understand how great it sounds. Inevitably, we would go visit the store on weekends, and he would always give us albums to take home,” Giacchino explained. Soon enough, they had a giant collection of records,...

Qatar has prohibited the release of the Hollywood film “It Ends With Us” in theaters due to its depictions of intimacy. The romantic drama, based on a best-selling novel and starring Blake Lively, contains several kissing scenes and a brief intimate encounter. According to sources, Qatar’s strict censorship committee felt this content was inappropriate for audiences.
Directed by and co-starring Justin Baldoni, the PG-13 rated film tells the story of a woman who moves to Boston and starts a complex romantic relationship. As a hereditary emirate, Qatar maintains tight control over cultural imports to uphold traditions. The nation’s tourism website notes that public displays of affection are frowned upon.
This ban adds to Qatar’s growing list of blocked American movies. Other titles prohibited include “Barbie,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” and “Lightyear” due to their content. While distributors must consider varied cultural standards globally, some argue bans like...

Can you imagine banning something as inoffensive as Marvel's "Eternals?" What about "West Side Story?" Or "Lightyear." Well, when you're a hereditarily ruled emirate that locks people up for consensual gay relationships, you're probably going to be a bit strict about what you let people watch.
Qatar is one of those countries that often makes headlines for banning this or that perfectly innocuous movie. It's not just the aforementioned Hollywood products that fell afoul of the country's censorship committee, either. Dozens of films have been either banned or threatened with heavy edits by the country that criminalizes unmarried women and men living together. Just last year "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" and, perhaps unsurprisingly, "Barbie," were outlawed in the emirate. Now, Blake Lively has managed to upset the committee with her new movie "It Ends With Us."

The official announcement at D23 of Pixar’s Andrew Stanton writing and directing “Toy Story 5” is a big deal. Stanton has co-written the previous four “Toy Story” films, receiving Oscar nominations for the original and the third film.
But now as a director, he finally gets to be in total control of the franchise he helped establish. So if there was going to be a fifth “Toy Story,” he’s the perfect director for a couple of reasons.
The first is that, since “Wall-e,” Stanton has been fascinated with science fiction and the dangers of ubiquitous technology. The story for the fifth “Toy Story” allows him to double down on that fascination.
“Let’s be real,” Stanton told the packed Honda Center in Anaheim on Friday night. “Toys have some serious competition these days with phones, tablets, and technology everywhere. So, this time around, it’s toys vs. tech.

Disney has confirmed that its $2 billion-plus Frozen IP will get a three-quel in 2027. Disney exec Jennifer Lee, who is also one of the directors of Frozen and Frozen II, released a concept art of the film at the ongoing D23 event. The film was inspired by Christian Andersen’s old fairy tale The Snow Queen. The two films grossed a total of $2.76 billion at the box office.

Following the controversial end of Toy Story 4, Woody left the gang to join his old flame, Bo Peep, after being separated for years. Many were unhappy with this decision as it went against what Woody had been about in the previous three movies — the loyalty a toy has for its owner.
After much speculation about whether or not we would see him appear in this new film, Woody is now back and tackling a new age threat that all toys face: technology.

Pixar unveiled a big new project Friday night at D23 Expo with its promotion for “Hoppers,” a body-swap story starring Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan and Piper Curda.
The story follows a young girl, Mabel, who can transfer her mind into a robot beaver with the goal of going undercover in the animal kingdom. She winds up befriending a regal beaver, King George, and uniting the animals to fight off the plans of a real estate developer. The movie is targeted for release in spring 2026.
Hamm, an Emmy winner for “Mad Men” and nominee this year for FX’s “Fargo,” will voice a greedy mayor with development plans. Curda, who voices Mabel, is a former Disney Channel actor who appeared in multiple episodes of the 2013-214 series “A.N.T Farm.” She also was featured in multiple episodes of the 2018-2022 CW superhero series “Legacies.”
Moynihan is an animation superstar and “Saturday Night Live” alum.

It's already had a spin-off with Zootopia+ on Disney+, which explored many of the lives and backstories of the side characters from the first film, with Zootopia 2 being promised that it'll "take it to another level."

It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, has been blocked from theatrical release in Qatar due to its kissing scenes, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The country’s censorship committee decided to ban the Sony Pictures and Wayfarer Studios’ film, which has a PG-13 rating in the U.S. Qatar has strict censorship rules and has previously banned other hit films including Barbie, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, Anyone But You, Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness, No Hard Feelings, Lightyear and more.
It Ends With Us, also directed by Baldoni, focuses on the sensitive issue of domestic violence and a woman’s internal battle between deciding to stay in a toxic relationship or leave it. Blake Lively’s romance drama “It Ends With Us” has been banned in Qatar due to kissing scenes.
The country’s censorship committee has blocked the PG-13 film, from Sony Pictures and Wayfarer Studios, from a theatrical release, sources close to the film tell Variety.

Qatar has very strict censorship rules and a history of banning American movies, including Greta Gerwig’s women-empowerment comedy “Barbie,” the animated superhero adventure “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Eternals” — all of which were rated PG-13 in the U.S.

It's official: "Inside Out 2" is now the biggest animated movie of all time at the box office. After just five weeks in theaters and a run for the ages under its belt, Pixar's sequel has now amassed $1.46 billion worldwide, according to a press release from Disney. That puts it just ahead of 2019's "Frozen II" ($1.45 billion worldwide) to become the new champion of animation at the box office, as well as the 13th highest-grossing movie ever overall, unadjusted for inflation. While there is a small caveat that we'll get to in a moment, this is a huge deal for a slew of reasons.
Director Kelsey Mann's "Inside Out 2" has not left the top three on the domestic charts since it premiered on June 12. It had already set a record for an animated film, crossing the $1 billion mark globally and becoming the first movie since "Barbie" to reach that milestone.

More than five weeks into its theatrical run, "Inside Out 2" continues to break records. Disney and Pixar's blockbuster animated sequel has become the single box office story of 2024 for a variety of reasons, from bringing the storied animation studio back to its former glory days to becoming one of just a small handful of films in the pandemic era to cross the $1 billion milestone, it's been an unbelievably impressive run. Now, the film has delved even further into record-breaking territory as it has entered the top 15 all-time list of biggest global grossers.
Director Kelsey Mann's "Inside Out 2" pulled in $12.8 million this past weekend, its sixth in theaters overall. It stayed at number three on the charts, dropping just 36% compared to the prior weekend, despite stiff competition from "Despicable Me 4" and "Twisters," which topped the charts with a much bigger than expected $80.5 million. Pixar’s latest runaway success, Inside Out 2, has now become the studio’s highest-grossing movie in history. The nearly decade-long follow-up to the 2015 original has seemingly surpassed everyone’s expectations and has, in a way, saved the studio from a long streak of failure.
In recent years, the studio has been having some major box office duds, beginning with 2020’s Onward being pulled from theaters early due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Their following three movies, Soul, Luca, and Turning Red, were released straight to streaming. 2022’s Lightyear was a massive flop, and 2023’s Elemental, while not outright bombing, failed to meet expectations.
Inside Out 2 opened to $154 million and has since made $543.5 million at the domestic box office and $708 million internationally, for a current total of $1.251 billion at the box office. It has since become Disney’s highest-grossing animated film since the 2020 pandemic and is now Pixar’s highest-grossing film of all time,...

“First time in a long time I didn’t hear any buzz at all about a July 4th blockbuster movie,” a friend texted me last week. His message struck me as odd, since I can’t turn a corner without being bombarded by mutant Minions: The yellow pranksters keep showing up on billboards, product tie-ins, pop-up ads. My friend is engaged to be married, with a baby on the way, but he’s not a parent yet, and he’s clearly not thinking like one.
The reality is this: The weekend that once belonged to Will Smith — and which hosted a geriatric Indiana Jones’ return last year — has long been the domain of “Despicable Me” movies. For seven of the last 14 years, Illumination Entertainment has planted one of its toon tentpoles (which also include “The Secret Life of Pets”) on or immediately after Independence Day weekend. Joy, meet Euphoria. “Inside Out 2” has become the highest-grossing film in the long and distinguished history of Pixar, the studio behind the animated phenomenon.
The hit family film has earned $1.25 billion globally and passed “Incredibles 2,” the animation studio’s previous record holder that earned $1.24 billion worldwide over its run. “Inside Out 2” now ranks as the fourth highest-grossing animated movie of all-time, behind “Frozen” ($1.29 billion), “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($1.36 billion) and “Frozen II” ($1.45 billion). The “Frozen” franchise was released by Walt Disney Animation Studios, which shares a parent company with Pixar, while “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was produced by Illumination and Universal. Expect “Inside Out 2” to keep climbing up the charts, shattering records as it ascends.
Domestically, “Inside Out 2” has earned $543.5 million. Its international gross stands at $708 million. The sequel, which follows the emotional life of a teenage girl as she struggles with fitting...

Disney and Pixar's "Inside Out 2" remains the feel good box office story of the year. After the first half of 2024 made it feel like the sky was falling, with ticket sales coming in far below 2023 levels, this animated sequel arrived to save the day. On its fourth weekend in theaters, despite heavy competition from Gru and the Minions, Pixar's latest has made its way into the history books as one of the 25 highest-grossing movies of all time. What's most impressive is that the movie still has a lot of gas left in the tank.
Even though "Despicable Me 4" had a record-setting, chart-topping debut of $75 million domestically over the weekend (and $122.6 million across its full five-day Fourth of July opening), "Inside Out 2" managed to hold onto the number two spot with an estimated $30 million domestic haul. It dropped just 48% from the previous weekend despite a new, family-friendly animated film entering the marketplace.

Disney is back to being the unquestioned champion of the box office as "Inside Out 2" has crossed a hugely impressive milestone. Pixar's latest animated hit has sailed past the $1 billion mark globally, becoming the first movie of 2024 to do so. It is also the first movie to do so since "Barbie" did it at the beginning of August last year. After a rough start to the year, it looks like things are finally turning around for theaters with the help of this animated juggernaut.
Director Kelsey Mann's "Inside Out 2" has taken in $469.3 million domestically to go with $545.5 million internationally for a grand total of $1.01 billion worldwide to date. That includes $57.4 million from its most recent weekend in North America, with Pixar's animated sequel topping the charts for a third weekend in a row. "A Quiet Place: Day One" opened with a very solid $53 million, but had to settle for second place.

On the cusp of July, a 2024 movie has finally joined the One Billion Club.
Disney/Pixar's Inside Out 2 opened strong when it arrived in theatres on June 14, and has performed consistently well over the past couple of weeks. Now, the critically-acclaimed animated sequel has officially become the first movie of 2024 to pass the $1 billion mark at the global box office.
After 19 days on general release, Inside Out 2 has grossed $469.3 million in North America and $545.5 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $1.015 billion. It has now become one of 11 animated films in history to pass this milestone (eight of which are Disney titles), and is the fastest to do so.
These numbers are very encouraging for movie theaters, as this level of mega-blockbuster has become a rarity since the pandemic. It's also good news for Pixar, as the beloved studio has struggled at the box office in recent...

Talk about a mood booster. Disney and Pixar’s emotion-laden “Inside Out 2” is the first film of the year to hit $1 billion at the global box office.

It was also the first movie since last July’s “Barbie” ($162 million) to debut above $100 million. Since then, the second “Inside Out” has retained the top spot on box office charts for three consecutive weekends and became the highest-grossing movie domestically and globally of 2024. Disney has finally broken $1 billion at the box office once again, this time with Pixar, which faced layoffs just a couple of months ago. Worries about Pixar no longer being the powerhouse it once was are not gone after they massively delivered at the box office.
This proves that giving audiences a good movie that is what they expect and want, will create support for it.
After three weekends at the box office, the film will cross the $1 billion worldwide box office mark, earning $469 million domestically and $545 million internationally for a $1.05 billion total box office. This is the first time a Disney film has crossed the $1 billion mark since “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which was released in December 2022.
This weekend, “Inside Out 2” will likely earn about $57.4 million domestically, which will keep the film number one for the weekend. However, “Despicable Me 4” will be released next weekend and...

Disney had a pretty rough year at the box office in 2023, suffering huge flops with films like "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" and "The Marvels." But things are looking up as we enter the second half of 2024, as "Inside Out 2" has already become the highest-grossing movie of the year, dethroning "Dune: Part Two" to take the crown in a mere nine days. In the process, it has managed to accomplish something that no movie has accomplished since 2019 when "Avengers: Endgame" hit theaters en route to becoming (for a time) the biggest movie in history.
Director Kelsey Mann's "Inside Out 2" cleared $101 million domestically in its second weekend, dropping just 35% after its record-breaking opening. It is now just the seventh movie in history to make at least $100 million on its second weekend in theaters. The last time that happened? When "Endgame" pulled in an astonishing $114.7 million on...

Inside Out 2’s box office takings streak past Dune: Part Two globally, putting Pixar’s sequel on track to the hallowed $1bn mark.
The good news for cinema owners continued this weekend, as Pixar’s follow-up to 2015 classic Inside Out easily leapfrogged Dune: Part Two to become the highest-grossing film of 2024 globally.
Inside Out 2 – already the largest opening of the year in the US – fell just 35% there in its second week of release, with domestic takings now hovering around the $355m mark. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that makes it the best hold for a film opening to $150m or more in history.
Globally, meanwhile, the film’s total now stands at $724m – easily surpassing Dune: Part Two's previous record of $711m after almost doubling its take in its first weekend.

Inside Out 2 continues dominating the box office in its second weekend, with Deadline reporting that the movie is looking at a $98 million weekend – some say it could even break $100 million. This would make it the highest grossing second weekend for an animated film of all time, after The Super Mario Bros Movie’s $92 million second weekend last year. Certainly, the animated sequel is shaping up to be one of Pixar’s biggest hits ever, which is quite the coup for a studio that everyone thought was on the downslide just a few months ago after a series of underperformers like Lightyear, Elemental, and more.

Filmmakers in Malaysia are predicting more arrests and criminal investigations if the government pushes through proposed guidelines to the country’s censorship system and expands the remit of the Film Censorship Board (Lfp).
Malaysia has in recent years gained itself an intolerant reputation after numerous bans or restrictions on Hollywood and Asian films that have been widely released elsewhere. These have included Pixar’s “Buzz Lightyear” and Marvel’s “Thor: love and Thunder,” apparently due to their LGBT subplots or characters, and 2017 Indian blockbuster “Padmaavat” on religious grounds.
But the Freedom Film Network says that by expanding film censorship the government is undermining the development of the local, Malaysian, film industry that authorities proclaim to support.
“Filmmaking is now a dangerous vocation in Malaysia and far from the internationally competitive industry the Prime Minister imagines,” the organization said this week in an open letter. “With the new Lpf guidelines we...

Since the success of 2016’s The Jungle Book, Disney has been leaning hard towards live-action remakes of their beloved animated classics. While this has been frustrating for some fans, as many argued it’s creatively bankrupt, it doesn’t seem the House of Mouse is stopping anytime soon. However, unlike its parent company, Pixar has no intentions of translating its stories into live-action.
Pete Docter, who has been serving as Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer since 2018, set the record straight about the acclaimed studio’s stance on remaking classics for live-action.

Embarrassed? Hardly. Sad and fearful? No way. Joyous? Absolutely. That was the vibe on the morning of June 17 when Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman cracked open the champagne to toast those who had worked on the making and marketing of Inside Out 2, which is the year’s first box office blockbuster. “It’s been a while since we did this,” says one person attending the celebration on Disney’s Burbank lot, in reference to rough times for the once-invincible Pixar, where Pete Docter also arranged a toast.
For its part, Pixar delivered a film that has won over both critics and audiences in continuing the story of Riley, who is now 13 and must contend with a new crew of emotions invading her head in addition to the old standbys, led by Joy (Amy Poehler). And Disney orchestrated a marketing campaign that stayed on message and resonated with moviegoers around the globe.

The American box office needed a win, and my word, did it get one with "Inside Out 2." The latest film from Pixar had a record-breaking weekend, pulling in nearly $295 million globally and marking the best opening weekend ever for an animated film. That number includes $154.2 million domestically, which means director Kelsey Mann now holds the record for the biggest opening weekend ever for a feature directorial debut. In short, it was a home run for Disney and Pixar. It's also one that comes with an important lesson that could easily be ignored by the powers that be: Pixar needs to invest in original ideas now more than ever.
Given the insanely huge opening weekend, positive reviews, and instantly strong word of mouth from audiences, "Inside Out 2" now has a real shot at becoming the biggest movie of 2024 overall and a likely $1 billion global grosser, assuming it doesn't fall...

After what has undeniably been a rough post-covid era for the house of Woody, Buzz, Coco, and so many other beloved animated characters, the return of Amy Poehler’s Joy had no sadness in sight when Inside Out 2 opened to $155 million this past weekend.
Debuting to the second best animated opening day of all-time with $62 million—behind only another Pixar sequel, 2018’s Incredibles 2—the film went on to gross the second best weekend ever in animation, again behind Pixar’s Brad Bird-directed superhero sequel. This debut is also above last year’s animated juggernaut, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It’s in fact the best opening of any movie since Barbie last July.

Pixar's relationship with the box office has been an emotional rollercoaster ever since the start of the Pandemic. First there was fear, as the beloved animation studio's Soul, Luca, and Turning Red all found themselves releasing exclusively on Disney+ with no theatrical release amidst lockdown. Next there was anxiety, as 2022 cinema comeback Lightyear crawled to an underwhelming $226 million global cume. And then some joy, finally, as Elemental found its box office legs and took nearly $500 million worldwide last year. And now, with the release of Inside Out 2, Pixar have become the Envy of their peers once again as their hotly anticipated sequel has enjoyed a record-breaking opening weekend.
Per Box Office Mojo, director Kelsey Mann's follow-up to Pete Docter's 2016 fan favourite smashed all box office expectations over the weekend, cruising to a cool $155 million taken in North America and a dizzying $295 million total worldwide. Not only...

Move over Anxiety, there’s a new dominant emotion at the box office: Joy!
Disney and Pixar’s expressive animated sequel “Inside Out 2” scored a mighty $155 million in its first weekend of release, overtaking “Dune: Part Two” ($82.5 million) and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” ($80 million) as the biggest opening of the year. It’s also the first movie since last July’s “Barbie” ($162 million) to debut above $100 million. Heading into the weekend, the follow-up film to 2015’s cerebral hit “Inside Out” was projected to collect $80 million to $90 million.
The second “Inside Out 2” also connected at the international box office with $140 million, enough to surpass “Frozen 2” ($135 million) as the biggest overseas animated opening of all time. Turnout was especially strong across Latin America, where it landed the second-biggest opening of all time behind Disney’s Marvel epic “Avengers: Endgame.” Globally, the movie has grossed $295 million to notch...

While 2024 has been great for original releases so far, the same can’t be said for big-budget blockbusters. Despite being received well critically, films like The Fall Guys and Furiosa have failed to hit it big commercially, and it’s now on Inside Out 2‘s shoulders to bring audiences back to the theatres. But theatres aren’t alone, who are counting on the sequel to hit big, as per Pixar’s Pete Docter, the iconic studio’s approach moving forward highly hinges on its performance.
And if it did end up succeeding in bringing Pixar’s train back on track, we might be in for more sequels to one of Pixar’s best films of the 2010s.

Editor’s Note: this list was originally published in June 2023. It has since been updated to include Pixar’s latest output.
When you ask someone about their favorite Pixar film, the answer usually says less about the movie than it does about the person. The legendary animation studio has remained at the top of its game for years because of how its films use their big high-concept ideas to explore fundamental truths. A comedy about talking toys becomes a story about friendship and growing up; a kid’s movie about fish becomes an emotional tale of fatherhood; a film about a rat that likes to cook becomes a sneakily profound story about the nature of art and inspiration. The movies become very personal to each viewer, especially for those who’ve grown up with Pixar’s work and have seen its releases serve as milestones in their lives.
