Nickelodeon is breathing new life into the popular “Victorious” franchise with a comedy series that brings back Daniella Monet as Trina Vega – this time as a teacher at Hollywood Arts High School.

The multi-camera comedy, currently titled “Hollywood Arts,” marks the second spinoff from the original series that aired from 2010 to 2013. Monet will not only star in the show but also serve as an executive producer, bringing her extensive television experience to the project.

“I could not be happier” about the new venture, said Avan Jogia, one of Monet’s former co-stars, in an Instagram Stories post that hints at continued camaraderie among the original cast. While the network has not yet confirmed whether other original cast members will appear, early social media interactions suggest positive feelings about the project.

“Victorious” has another spinoff in the works, with Daniella Monet set to reprise her role as Trina Vega in a multi-cam Nickelodeon comedy with the working title “Hollywood Arts,” Variety has confirmed.

The series, which is in development and has not yet been greenlit, will follow Trina as she returns to her old stomping grounds to teach students at the fictional Los Angeles performing arts high school. It would mark the second spinoff of “Victorious,” following “Sam & Cat,” starring Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande.

Casting is underway for the spinoff, and it’s unclear whether any other “Victorious” stars — including Victoria Justice — will reprise their roles in “Hollywood Arts.”

Monet, who starred in all four seasons of “Victorious” as the older sister to Justice’s Tori Vega, will executive produce the spinoff alongside Jake Farrow (who was a writer-producer on “Victorious” and “Sam & Cat”) and Samantha Martin.

“My Old Ass” writer and director Megan Park has landed a series order at Amazon Prime Video for the drama “Sterling Point,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but “Sterling Point” is described as a YA drama. Park is the creator of the series and will also direct, executive produce, and serve as co-showrunner.

YA genre veterans Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will also executive produce and co-showrun under their Fake Empire banner. LuckyChap, which produced “My Old Ass,” will executive produce under its first-look TV deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action adaptation of the nostalgic mecha anime property Voltron is assembling more actors for the movie, which already stars Henry Cavill and Daniel Quinn-Toye. The newly added trio includes Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, and John Kim.

Susan Buckner, the actress and dancer best known for her turn as the bubbly and often-teased Rydell High cheerleader Patty Simcox in the 1978 blockbuster musical Grease, has died. She was 72.

She died Thursday in Miami, family spokesperson Melissa Berthier announced. No cause of death was revealed.

No plot details are available, but the project is being executive produced by Reese Witherspoon along with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, with Schwartz and Savage also writing. Witherspoon starred in two of the “Legally Blonde” films and will executive produce under her Hello Sunshine banner alongside Lauren Neustadter. Hello Sunshine is part of Candle Media. Kenneth Mitchell, best known for his countless roles on Star Trek: Discovery roles, has died.

He was 49.

Mitchell’s family revealed the sad news via social media on Saturday evening.

The actor’s cause of death is from complications from Als.

“With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend,” the statement reads in part.

“For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of awful challenges from Als,” the family added.

Mitchell passed away on Saturday, according to an announcement on his X page. No cause of death has been shared, but he had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Als, for more than five years. Studios and streamers spent the year compiling a lengthy list of small screen staples ending in 2023 and 2024; the announcements came amidst a string of mergers, strategy pivots, and a smattering of natural narrative conclusions that for good or bad were impacted by the industry-wide work stoppages.

From awards darlings like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” (renewed for a sixth and final season expected next year) to tried-and-true audience favorites like “Archer,” “The Blacklist,” and “Riverdale,” many of the TV shows that got the chop this year were considered buzzy cultural touchstones at one time or another.

Emmy winners “Barry” and “Succession” famously both came to an end on May 28 in a doubled-header spring TV finale that closed the curtain on a memorable phase in HBO’s post-“Game of Thrones” recovery.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

That may as well be the motto for the five broadcast networks heading into the 2023-24 season as their corporate parents are increasingly focused on cutting costs, restructurings and streaming. To that end, three of the five networks have made leadership changes in the past year.

Disney Entertainment TV is set to reinstate overall deals for creatives that were suspended during the WGA strike as early as Thursday, TheWrap has learned.

In mid-September, the company paused overall and first look deals across its subsidiaries, with Billy Porter, Yara Shahidi, Gina Rodriguez, “This Is Us” alum Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore, “Rebel” executive producer Marc Webb, “The Bear” EP Hiro Murai and FX Productions’ Stacey Sher among those impacted.

While Disney Entertainment TV had paused the deals, the studio planned to continue paying for the deals in order to provide salaries for assistants through the end of 2023, as well as cover salaries for development executives through the first week of October 2023, an individual with knowledge of the decision told TheWrap at the time.

The cancellation of “Nancy Drew” came as a shock to its producers.

On Thursday, a day after the show’s series finale aired, executive producer Larry Teng took to Twitter to call out network The CW over how the cancellation was handled.

Following the Aug. 23 series finale of Nancy Drew, executive producer Larry Teng is making clear how he feels about the show’s cancellation.

Teng took to X/Twitter Thursday night to vent his frustration over what he considers was the inconsiderate way the team was informed about the cancellation, and that they had no opportunity to craft a proper conclusion to the show.

“From what I’ve read, the reaction to the series finale have been mostly positive,” Teng wrote. “Now imagine if you watched that finale without us knowing it would be the last episode of #NancyDrew ever. Because that’s what almost happened.

With four episodes still to film at the time, producers had to scramble to craft a series finale worthy of the show.

After the last episode airing on The CW, producer Larry Teng opened up about how the gang learned the show would not be renewed.

Kennedy McMann had already plotted her next role as the lead of The Good Doctor spinoff, but there was hope she could pull double duty.

If this didn’t happen, Teng said they would have filmed the Season 4 finale, having no idea it would be their last episode. So… this could be long. I'll admit that Nancy Drew Season 4 had my heart in its hands from the very beginning.

It could have crushed it, and it came close more than once.

And even though there were things I'd hoped to see that didn't happen, Nancy Drew Season 4 Episode 13 was a dramatic, intriguing, uplifting goodbye that left me smiling as Nancy turned off the lights.

Heck, the seven minutes before the intro had so many high-stakes moments and surprises that I had to catch my breath.

One of the best things about this finale was that everybody got a moment to shine.

We'll start with the most shocking revelation.

Nancy's past life wasn't as Nashua's wife, Lucia; it was as August Pritchard, a founder of Horseshoe Bay, who helped create the sin eaters.

She wasn't Tristan's soulmate. She was the person who cursed his soul.

It's both exciting and heartbreaking to know that Nancy Drew Season 4 Episode 12 is the penultimate installment of the series.

As thrilled as I am to get answers to this sin eater mystery, and as hopeful as I am to see Temperance's curse finally broken, it's difficult not to be disappointed in all the plot lines and character arcs that feel incomplete.

And worse to know that this is the end of our relationship with the Drew Crew.

For several episodes now, no one has even mentioned Temperance or her death curse. We know that's what's keeping Ace and Nancy apart, but it almost feels like the show has forgotten as it's found other ways to drive a wedge between our favorite couple.

The first three installments of the season were amazing, but we haven't had a satisfying romantic moment between Nancy and Ace since Nancy Drew Season 4 Episode 3.

All she could remember was flame, which coincided with a charred body at the morgue and Ace being strangely connected to a ghost.

What the heck is going on? Why would Nancy go to the fountain of the sin eater? What did one brief conversation with Ace make her so desperate to forget?

Whatever it was, the guilt of it is tearing Nancy up inside, and she won't let it go until she knows the truth.

Of course, she won't. She's Nancy Drew. If there's a mystery to solve, she solves it.

And this one has to do with herself and the love of her life.

It was incredibly sweet of Ryan to try and convince her to let it go. To remind Nancy that she is so much more than her worst moment, no matter how bad it might be.

Brad Schwartz, who joined The CW as its entertainment president six months ago, hasn’t won over many diehard fans of the network after he canceled nearly all of its beloved scripted shows as part of a push by its new ownership, station group Nexstar, to make it profitable by 2025.

But what Schwartz has done, in a relatively short time, has been to position The CW in a place where the network can age up its audience, reduce overhead and secure the key rights needed to make it profitable for the first time ever.

Nancy Drew has the most horrible luck when it comes to love.

Her former boyfriend, Owen, was killed. Then Ace died during her hallucination and then fell under Temperance's death curse.

And now on Nancy Drew Season 4 Episode 10 Nancy shot Tristan with a crossbow and almost killed him.

Oh, and we failed to mention that Tristan is actually a sin eater and, even without the poison arrow, is still fated to die before he's 30 years old.

To think that Nancy was attracted to the gorgeous lobsterman because she thought he was uncomplicated. The Universe definitely has a sick sense of humor.
