Bianca Bin was first considered for the role of Josiane, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Agatha Moreira took over the role. Bin would have repeated her collaboration with creator Walcyr Carrasco, following The Other Side of Paradise (2017).
Juliana Paes is only 13 years older than her on screen daughter Agatha Moreira. Paes is only a few years apart from her fictional nieces Paolla Oliveira and Nathalia Dill. Marco Nanini is only 7 years younger than his on screen mother Betty Faria.
Globo TV's second prime time drama based on Mildred Pierce (1945), after Vale Tudo (1988). Since the original story is not so widely known in Brazil, "Sweet Diva" drew comparisons to "Vale Tudo" to the point of being deemed a rip-off. Creator Walcyr Carrasco pointed out that his story was mainly based on "Mildred Pierce".
Was accused of plagiarism on two occasions: first, by wedding filmmaker Karine de Sousa. She pointed out similarities between one of her published stories and the wedding scandal from the series. Second, by professional baker Sandra Rodrigues Campos, who claimed the main character's storyline was inspired by her life.
Angélica has a cameo as herself and the presenter of "Best Cake", a baking TV show. Walcyr Carrasco personally invited her, making this the second collaboration between them since O Guarani (1991). Furthermore, this would be one of Angelica's last appearances on Globo TV before leaving the network.
