Was scrolling and found a serie that looked like the vibe from Dark and wanted to give it a chance. It was Sløborn. A fantastic serie. It is nothing like Dark though. Only have in common that many of the main characters are teens and that it is a German production. But more addictive than Dark. Bing watched Sløborn until I realised I needed to wait for release of the final 3 episodes.
This review is based on all 20 episodes/3 season. Wish there were more.
There are several layers of the story. The everyday drama is one layer. Well scripted and interesting plots. I simply had to see how they got out of the trouble that they gotten into. Some characters are unlikeable, but what they do and what motives them still makes sense.
Another layer is the island atmosphere. Sløborn is a fictive island in Germany at the Northsea close to Denmark. It has its charm with the slow pace of a small island and mixture of languages and culture. For example Husum - a town on the mainland - is a small ferry trip away, but seems as a different universe.
Of course there is also the entire storyline about how a virus spread and what it does to a society. Season 1 of Sløborn was filmed before Covid. They really nailed a lot of things; yet the scale at another level since mortality in Sløborn was higher than with Covid.
Interesting take on how civilization could end, the abyss we are looking into and only a few steps away from. Sløborn shows that a few deep scratches on the fabric of society could make it collapse.
The last episode in season 3 was a bit of a rush; but hard to make closure and wrap loose ends. I really like the ending, and was neither as expected nor hoped for. Looking more forward than backward. The 3 seasons are different in, but they fit well together. The quality of the episodes did not decline over time (as often seen). All 3 seasons were good.
Highly recommend for a rainy weekend !
