A finely crafted series, well performed and deservedly to see it. It starts in Madrid 1988, a man named Albert James : Will Keen leaves a biography on the desk of a publisher. Along the way a long flaskback concerning the starring, Amelia Garayoa : Irene Escolar . Amelia will take a long and risked adventure, beginning in the thunderous Republican Madrid 1934. Amelia is forced a marriage to a stiff-upper-lip man named Santiago : Pablo Derqui, and early they have a first-born baby. But then Amelia meets Pierre Comte : Oriol Pla, an impulsive and handsome French/Russian journalist but he is actually a fervent communist and Stalin agent. Then Amelia falls in love for him, leaves her family : husband , new-born son and accompanies Comte to Buenos Aires where she meets her best friend, Carla Alessandrini : Maria Pia Calzone. As Amelia undertakes a dangerous adventure with life-changing experiences every step of the way including several cities in the world : Buenos Aires, Moscow , London, Rome, Paris, Berlin and finally completing a circle she goes back home to Madrid.
A stirring and romantic series with dramatic events, thrills, emotion, betrayal and love stories. There are numerous historical remarks about Spanish republic, Stalinist period and Nazi time. Interpretations are uniformly decent. The series is very nice set, luxurious cinematography, great production design and glamorous costumes. Stars Irene Escolar as a stubborn young woman who both, love and sheer lust for adventure undertakes an overseas journey and eventually working as a spy for a noble cause . Oriol Pla as the astute communist reporter who falls in distress is pretty fine. Maria Pia Calzone plays stunningly an Opera Diva who takes Amelia under her wing becoming the young Spanish woman's subrrogate mother. While Pablo Derqui is adequate as her serious and wealthy husband.
The series was competenly directed by Eduard Cortes and inspiring by historical events. He had budget enough thanks to Movie Star that financed lavishly. Eduard is a good craftsman with a long career , his film debut was Nobody's life with Jose Coronad. He has an extensive experience in the world of television as TVE as TV3 regional channel directing a lot of series such as : Merli, Angel y demonio, Hay alguien ahi, Psico express, Sitges, Rosa, Quico, Secretos de famiia. And directing some feature films as Ingrid, Otros dias vendran, La Caverna, Atraco and his biggest hit : Los Pelayo.

Fairly nice work with the setting and the characters. Didn't catch up with the plot anyway. The story tries to focus on how innovative this woman was but fails providing reliability to the facts she gets involved in. It's a weakness for me. At least Irene Escolar does a good impression of her and fulfills the hole her male partner gives. Don't think I'll keep watching.

It's always good to watch a program about WW2 from a European point of view rather than how the Americans won the war.
The script was flawed and unbelievable in parts but still a good story and well acted.
Good ending.

Wonderful adaptation of the novel to the screen. I was really impressed to see how the protagonist filled up the screen so wholehartedly. Irene Escolar is probably the most versatile actress of our country, interpreting the role of Amelia Garayoa with a fierce energy and yet moving us with her vulnerability.
The production values of the show are also outstanding: the setting, photography and flawlessly selected locations and costumes make us travel in time to the most convulsive times in the history of the 20th century.
