As an Afro Puerto Rican born in New York City to native Puerto Rican parents, I learned both Spanish and English growing up. Non-Hispanics don't realize, Spanish speakers from the Caribbean islands (Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico) speak Spanish with a different accent than Mexicans, Salvadorians, and other Central & South Americans. I found it a joke with Mexican actors trying to portray being Dominican. I am familiar with the actor, Octavio Pisano. He was in Tyler Perry's Soap Opera, 'If Loving You Is Wrong' and NBC's Law & Order SVU. Hearing him and the other Mexican actor, Rafael Amaya, they didn't speak Spanish with a Dominican or Puerto Rican accent. Also, I found colorism to be a part of this movie that was supposed to be in the Dominican Republic. The Producers of this movie seem to hire light skin or white passing Latinos. This is what Hollywood Producers and writers think that this is the way Latinos should look. There should have been more Afro Latino men and women in this movie since it took place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They should have fired Afro Latino Cuban Laz Alonso and Afro Cuban Latina Gina Torres to play as Hispanics in this movie.
