"Stoned" effects are just wrong.
Ok.. nice plot and good acting and all.. but the person who decided to add that "stoney" effect when people toke up cannot ever in their own life have smoked cannabis themselves.
The added effect looks more like it does when one has sniffed glue in my own experience.
No cannabis buzz gives sound and visual distortion like that.
I don't understand why the director didn't run this effect by an expert before adding it to the series.
Clearly they had an expert around to tell how to refine the weed.
Otherwise it is a very nice topic, something i wish my own country Sweden would consider doing. We have a hard time speaking up about it since even talking about being pro legalisation could lead to dire consequenses. We are a bit under "dictatorship" in this question. Even having it in our bodily fluids 5weeks like it can take to leave the system after ingestion can make us loose the drivers licence. Or prohibit us to talk about illnesses at the drs since they have a reporting duty.

Amazing
Along of an amazing set of directors, this series has a very unique plot, cast and soundtrack. Definetly a very taboo topic, which makes it a bit difficult to analize without having a moral bias. Even though the show manages to portray a lot of political concepts that put in contrast many of modern world societies. Very well written, good pacing, amazing characters. Biriba and Salim, the main characters, live in two different worlds and both have a very different morality. Still the show has a very brommantic way of showing that even with their differences they are loyal to each other, both have a very complex plot around them.
Best Brazilian TV Series of All Time
The best TV series I've ever seen hands down. The history, plot, actors, direction, soundtrack and the best cinematography of all time. I can see it took inspiration a little from Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and some gangster films like Goodfellas. The "high" effects are pretty good and original, I wonder if other series and films from years to come will look up to this one day. Biriba, Salim are very likable and have a unique chemistry. The series is also a social commentary in Brazil on poverty, racism, prejudice and hypocrisy. Very well written, good pacing, amazing characters. The series is amazing.

In love with this series
Brilliant!!! HBO never miss. At the end of the first season I was with my mouth hanging open and nervous, thrilled!!! I'm absolutely in love with everything from the first frame on screen to the last one. Amazing experience, even better if you got a good joint to go along while watching!!! I love the story, actors and cinematography. Wish more seasons were produced! Quico Meirelles (son of Academy award nominee director Fernando Meirelles) is the showrunner and should be credited for such an amazing visual experience. It's not just a TV series, it's a whole goddamn experience! One of the best series I ever seen.

Dubbed version horrible
It's a pity that HBO decided to dub this into Spanish and not offer it in it's original language of Portuguese. The languages are fairly similar but the dubbing leads to lag between words and lip movements. This made it unwatchable for me. Why not offer it in the original language with a choice of subtitles?
