If Governors Ball is back, it must be summer in New York. The annual festival returned to Queens in early June in roomy new digs: Flushing Meadows Corona Park, just down the block from its 2021-22 home at Citi Field. The sprawling, tree-lined grounds were reminiscent of Gov Ball’s years on Randall’s Island, for anyone whose memories go back as far as the 2010s, only nicer and easier to get to by public transit. With one rainstorm aside, it was a beautiful weekend made all the more welcome...

After the new couple was seen on multiple dates, fans were shocked to learn about Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny’s budding relationship. They seem to be getting serious and showing fans it’s not a fling after Bad Bunny dissed Jenner’s basketball-star ex Devin Booker on a feature for a new track, “Coco Chanel.”
The new song by Eladio Carrión features an appearance from the Puerto Rican singer as he disses the NBA player’s current team, the Phoenix Suns.

Bad Bunny has seemingly hit out at Kendall Jenner’s ex-boyfriend in Eladio Carrión’s new song “Coco Chanel”.
The Puerto Rican rapper collaborated with fellow American rapper Carrión on the eighth track of his newest album, 3MEN2 Kbrn, released on 17 March.
In the song’s first verse, Bad Bunny, who’s rumoured to be dating Jenner, sings, “Pero el sol de PR calienta má' que el de Phoenix / Ella lo sabe”, which translates to, “But the sun in Puerto Rico is hotter than in Phoenix / She knows it”.
Phoenix appears to directly refer to Jenner’s ex-boyfriend, professional NBA Phoenix Suns player Devin Booker. The two reportedly split in October 2022 after dating for two years.
Elsewhere in the song, Bad Bunny raps, “Las de escorpio son peligro”, which translates to, “Scorpio women are dangerous”.
The 27-year-old reality TV star and model’s birthday is on 3 November 1995.

Kabo Family, the production banner owned by the fast-expanding Asacha Media Group, has signed a strategic deal with Christian Duguay, the prominent Canadian filmmaker of “Jappeloup” and “Coco Chanel.”
Under the pact, Kabo and Duguay’s CD Films France will collaborate on the development and production of TV series aimed at traditional television groups and platforms.
The partnership underscores Kabo Family’s ambition to ramp up its presence in the upscale scripted space. Duguay’s latest film “Tempete,” an uplifting drama with Melanie Laurent, Pio Marmai and Carmen Kassovitz, is currently playing in theaters. Besides “Jappeloup,” Dugay’s best known film credits include “Un Sac de Billes” and “Belle et Sebastien.” The helmer was nominated at the Primetime Emmy Awards three times, for “Joan of Arc,” “Hitler: The Rise of Evil” and the TV movie “Coco Chanel.”

Canadian director Christian Duguay is directing the third season of Frank Spotnitz’s “Medici” television saga, which has started shooting in Rome with Italian actor Francesco Montanari attached to play radical preacher Girolamo Savonarola, who became leader of Florence after the Medici family’s overthrow in 1494.
Duguay succeeds Jon Cassar (“24”), who helmed “Medici: Masters of Florence. The Magnificent Part I,” which was the show’s second season.
Montanari, who broke out internationally with Sky’s “Crime Novel,” more recently played the relentless anti-Mafia prosecutor who is the central character in pubcaster Rai’s hit “The Hunter.” He won the best performance prize for this role at the Cannesseries festival in April.

Mon dieu! Keira Knightley is the latest star to take on the role of fashion icon Coco Chanel. We first got word of the Brit babe's chance to play the legendary designer last month, and now we finally have our first sneak peek at Knightley's take on the founder of the French fashion house. And just like Shirley MacLaine and Audrey Tautou, who have also played the legendary designer, Knightley is looking très chic as a young Chanel in the black-and-white film. Karl Lagerfeld is fashion's Renaissance Man, multitasking with film, journalism, photography and -- what was that last one? -- oh yeah, fashion design. His latest gig? A short film starring Keira Knightley, shot in honor of the 100th anniversary of the first Chanel fashion boutique.
The Telegraph reports that the movie will be set in the French seaside town of Deauville, where Coco Chanel founded the first store with the help of her lover, Arthur "Boy" Capel. Chanel had previously set up shop on the famed Rue Cambon in Paris in 1910 but was only selling hats at the time. Deauville in 1912 marked Chanel's entry into women's sportswear, the apparel category for which she'd become famous.
According to Women's Wear Daily, the film won't be shot in Deauville (as it's currently "riddled with neon signs") but rather staged in Paris. Knightley will play the designer, an on-screen role previously held by...

Downton Abbey is quite the guilty pleasure and the casting news of the century is, that Ms. Shirley MacLaine is joining the cast for series three. This is a match made in TV heaven and today we’re proud to be able to offer some details on Downton Abbey season 3.
Elizabeth McGovern plays Cora Crawley, the Countess of Grantham. She’s the first lady of Downton, but she’s also an American. Though she has a very warm relationship with her British husband, the Earl of Grantham (they even share a bedroom, which is not the norm), the pair did not initially marry for love. It was her money that made Cora so desirable.
I call Cora the first lady of Grantham, but the truth of it is, when the Earl’s mother is around, the Dowager Countess Violet Crawley, acted brilliantly by Maggie Smith, she’s in charge. Perhaps not legally in charge,...

Exclusive: Lifetime has tapped Taraji P. Henson to star in its next original movie, Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story. While the network has being able land big-name feature talent for its recent biopics, Shirley MacLaine in Coco Chanel and Jeremy Irons and Joan Allen in Georgia O’Keeffe, getting an Oscar-nominated actress like Henson to headline one of the ripped-from-the-headlines films is a major coup for Lifetime. But the true story which Taken From Me is based on is also atypical for Lifetime’s brand of MOWs as it blends family drama with elements of a spy thriller. It centers on Tiffany [...]...

Our countdown to "Valentine's Day" continues with Shirley MacLaine, who plays the grandmother of a lovelorn 10-year-old in the movie and has a long, storied and occasionally kooky career in show business.
MacLaine's frequent discussions of all her past lives has made her an easy target of jokes, but the woman still has chops. She's an Oscar winner (for "Terms of Endearment") and multiple-time nominee and an Emmy winner, and has had any number of great performances over her career. (Even in what might not otherwise be good: She made what could have been a campfest of a TV movie, "Hell on Heels: The Battle of Mary Kay," surprisingly watchable.)
If you haven't seen it before, do yourself a favor and seek out "The Apartment," where she and Jack Lemmon are perfectly matched. Check it out:

Coco Before Chanel is a well-made but very slow biopic about the early days of influential French fashion designer Coco Chanel. Though it has an excellent central performance by Audrey Tautou, it’s a flawed way to tell her story if it has any hope of appealing to a broad audience. Aspects of Coco Chanel’s life have been filmed before, notably Chanel Solitaire in 1981 with Marie France-Pisier as Coco and the 2008 TV movie Coco Chanel starring Shirley Maclaine as an older Coco (who lived to be 83). This time director/writer Ann Fontaine shows us how Coco becomes Chanel, illustrating key events in the early life of an underprivileged young woman, with no resources other than her own ambition, who became such an important figure in forging contemporary tastes in style. The problem with the film (besides the fact that it’s French) is that, instead of the expected...

So another year has passed and its time for another round of awards for the people who make the television shows we like to watch.
Television is interesting these days. Never before have we seen such great, creative output. Never before have we been subjected to such drivel. It all gets paraded before us tonight, as we watch the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (handed out, it should be noted, by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) on CBS, CTV in Canada.

Interesting that the Emmys chose to introduce the 2009 edition of the Primetime awards by harkening back to the early days of television. Especially as the business of television has never been closer to a complete collapse. Oh, announcer who is trying so hard to sound like a TV host from the '50s. You don't sound at all like you're a three pack-a-day smoker.

Andrea Wong brought us The Bachelor! Now she's trying to reinvigorate Lifetime with positivity and fun.
If Project Runway had a needlepoint challenge, the show might find itself with an unlikely contestant. "About a year ago, I started needlepointing," confesses Andrea Wong, CEO of Lifetime Networks. She is perched on a chair in her Los Angeles office, wearing a black Yves Saint Laurent pantsuit. "It completely relaxes me." Well, usually. There was that time she was stitching a cushion for her boyfriend. "I was needlepointing while doing conference calls. It practically killed me."
Wong's coexisting affection for high fashion and homey crafts are the perfect metaphor for her plan to reinvigorate the dowdy, if successful, cable channel. Lifetime has been the top ad-backed female-focused network for years but, before Wong's 2007 arrival, was plagued with a reputation for lowbrow movies like My Stepson, My Lover. Its ratings were falling or flat for five straight years.

The Emmys are once again almost upon us and there is nothing I find more satisfying than looking down a list of nominees. I don’t know, I just really like it. Anyway, I know many people might not care too much about the Emmys, I’m more of a Golden Globe man myself, but you do have to give it to them for giving 30 Rock the Emmy for best comedy two year in a row, if you don’t know that show Rocks!! So here’s the list and a few comments I thought I’d add to the nominees.
Best Comedy Series
Entourage
Family Guy-Really hope this show doesn’t win, not a big fan as so many others are.
Flight of the Conchords-i’d really like to see this show win, but it definitely won’t.
How I Met Your Mother-I’d also like to see this one win too.

While some performers are Emmy veterans – like "Damages" star Glenn Close, who made it an even dozen nods today – others, such as her Oscar-winning costar William Hurt, are new to the dance. Hurt – who won the lead actor Oscar in 1985 for "Kiss of the Spider Woman" and picked up a supporting actor in a drama series Emmy nod today – is not the only Oscar champ in contention for an acting Emmy for the first time this year. While 1984 best actress Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine("Terms of Endearment") won one of her five Emmy bids for variety specials in the 1970s and 1980s, her nod today as lead actress in a movie or mini-series for "Coco Chanel" is her first recognition by the TV academy for her acting. And 1988 supporting actor Oscar champ Kevin Kline("A Fish Called Wanda") earned his first Emmy nod in the category of lead actor in...

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.

Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.

Since the EMMYs have 2,741 categories, we only focus on two things: first, how our favorite shows did and second, which big screen stars other than La Pfeiffer (she's always there with her television kingpin husband) will show up. Which of them got nominated for their small screen sojourns whether longform or more movie-like?
Speaking of which...
Drew Barrymore on the set of Going the Distance
Yes, you, Drew. But you knew she knew (everyone knew) that her affecting work in Grey Gardens as "Little Edie" was going to make the grade. "Big Edie" Jessica Lange also won a nomination for the narrative feature based on -- but also sort of jumping off from and commenting on -- the famous beloved documentary of the same name. I hope to have an interview with their director here soon.

Sigourney Weaver was "completely thrilled, astonished and delighted" with her lead actress in a miniseries or movie nomination for her work in Lifetime's "Prayers for Bobby." Weaver said she wasn't expecting a nomination for the telefilm, a true story about a mother who finds out her son is gay after he commits suicide. "Mary Griffith's story as a mother is such a wrenching one of what can happen to any parent if that parent doesn't have access to any other points of view," she said from New Mexico, where she is working on Greg Mottola's comedy "Paul." Weaver said she planned to call Griffith and Henry Czerny (Bobby) to celebrate. "I'm thrilled that this will help us get more exposure; the producers had been working for 13 years trying to get this made," she added.

We haven't done a fashion lineup in a while, so here goes...some ladies walking the flashbulb-lined red this past week.
Even though Rumer Willis (who turns 21 this summer) is not what you'd call traditionally beautiful I admire that her public persona often screams "I'm hot shit!" I think you have to respect that. Martha Plimpton is hot shit on Broadway (where she's currently enjoying her 3rd consecutive Tony nomination) if nowhere else. But isn't Broadway enough? She seemed to give up on her dwindling movie career just as the new decade began. It pisses me off that most people only think Goonies! when they see her because, helloooo, she was so good in other 80s gems like Shy People, Mosquito Coast and Running on Empty back in her River Phoenix days. And though I barely recall it I seem to remember that she was hilarious in 200 Cigarettes (1999). Does anyone remember that holiday comedy?...

The CW is undoubtedly the best network on television. Each week they bring up Blake Lively in Gossip Girl, Sophia Bush in One Tree Hill, Tyler Labine in Reaper, Jensen Ackles in Supernatural, and Tom Welling in Smallville. What else could we really ask for? How about some new shows this coming fall? You ask and The CW delivers. We already know that The CW has given the green light for the Gossip Girl spinoff and there is loud chatter of a remake of Melrose Place. But what about some new show that we can really sink our teeth into? Vampire DiariesRobert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz and Jackson Rathbone have made vampires so hot these days that The CW is jumping on the blood sucking bandwagon and coming out with a new show called Vampire Diaries. If you love the intensity and passion in Twilight, then you are going to love Vampire Diaries.

Photo: Screen Actors Guild Awards® The winners at the 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced tonight and it is a mixed bag as not one single movie won more than one award and Kate Winslet continued on her path to her first Oscar win. Winslet took home the Actor for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Reader, but didn't go home double-fisting as Meryl Streep took home her second SAG award with a win for her great performance in Doubt. Heath Ledger once again won for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight and his award was accepted by his co-star Gary Oldman who gave a short but sweet speech. The other motion picture acting award went to Sean Penn for Milk as he topped Mickey Rourke who won at the Golden Globes as the plot thickens on the way to the Oscars. Like Rourke at the Globes,...

This was the first time I had ever seen Hal Ashby's Being There and it didn't take long for me to begin asking myself just how in the hell Forrest Gump earned so much praise 15 years after this film was released when this film does it better than Gump ever could have. Yet, the Tom Hanks starring Gump goes on to win six Oscars while Being There is reserved for those that remember there were films made before the birth of the Internet and they still hold a greater value than most any film made today could. Sure, Being There went on to win an Oscar for Melvyn Douglas in a supporting role, but the fact many will never see this film is just a shame. In his second to last film role, Peter Sellers stars as the slow-witted Chance a man who finds himself left to his own...

Laura Dern, Recount -- "The acting part of it was just delicious. Inappropriately fun. You couldn't believe you were having so much fun. But the research part I found terribly painful. Every day you felt like your mouth was wide open, just agape at all that was gotten away with." Laura Dern is describing playing Florida secretary of state Katherine Harris in the HBO TV movie Recount to New York magazine. While presiding over the 2000 recount of her state's presidential ballots, Harris was mocked by late-night comedians for her outmoded hairstyle, excessive makeup, and pompous bearing. Dern's challenge was to give the beleaguered politician a fair shake and endow her off-the-wall pronouncements with conviction. In one scene, she compares herself to the biblical heroine Queen Esther, who "sacrificed herself for her beloved Jewish people, and I'm doing the same thing," and Dern delivers the line with utmost sincerity.Dern made the...

The 66th annual Golden Globes took on the flavor of an international smorgasbord with a heavy serving of curry Sunday.
The always slightly tipsy awards ceremony celebrated the Mumbai-set "Slumdog Millionaire," naming it drama of the year and rewarding its director Danny Boyle, screenwriter Simon Beaufoy and composer A.R. Rahman.
Hopping from continent to continent, the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., which hosted the annual awards show at the Beverly Hilton, tapped "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," which Woody Allen shot in Spain, as best comedy. It also handed out its best dramatic actor award to comeback kid Mickey Rourke for his washed-up athlete adrift in New Jersey in "The Wrestler" and best dramatic actress to Kate Winslet for playing a 1950s housewife trapped in the Connecticut suburbs in "Revolutionary Road."
Winslet scored a rare double victory; she also was named best supporting actress for her performance as a German woman who harbors several secrets in "The Reader.

Chicago ??? At least one “Web site technician” for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Hfpa) revealed a secret crush on Anne Hathaway’s lead role in “Rachel Getting Married” when the worker “randomly” awarded the actress an early Golden Globe two days before the official NBC telecast.
For a very short period of time, a star was noticed indicating Hathaway as the winner on the official Web site of the Golden Globes for her against-type role as a recovering junkie in “Rachel Getting Married”.
If the star stands, she’d best a powerhouse of other actresses in the lead-actress category including Angelina Jolie for “Changeling,” Meryl Streep for “Doubt,” Kristin Scott Thomas for “I’ve Loved You So Long” and Kate Winslet for “Revolutionary Road”.
Anne Hathaway in “Rachel Getting Married”.

Quickly after the snafu went public, the Hfpa posted the following whoopsie notice on Jan.

The list of TV series and made for TV movies that fill in the nominations of Screen Actors Guild Awards next year is unraveled. This time around, NBC's comedy series "30 Rock" has shown another domination by taking three nominations, including a nod each for its two lead actors, Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey.
Also triumphing on the primetime television is the Paul Giamatti-starring miniseries "John Adams". Like "30 Rock", the show accumulates 3 nominations, the same amount that other series like "Mad Men", "The Closer" and "Boston Legal" gather. This time the network that earns most of the nomination is HBO with 9 while ABC and NBC follow behind with 8.
The nominees are selected by actors' peers through a voting that was completed by noon Tuesday, December 16. The second round of voting that determines the winners will be conducted in January and announced on the ceremony on date 25. An award-presenting gala is...

Nominations for the 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning all while the Guild members are split on whether to move forward with a strike or not... There are certainly a few surprises to be mentioned such as how it looks like Revolutionary Road should start expecting little more than a Kate Winslet nomination as Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Shannon and the film itself are not mentioned. Melissa Leo swoops into the Best Actress category and Kristin Scott Thomas swoops out. Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) takes the Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) nomination and Robert Downey Jr. also gets in on the action for Tropic Thunder. Will the Academy be as open to Downey's comedic role? Many are talking about Doubt coming out of these nominations, but it really should come as No surprise whatsoever since the top award is based on an ensemble acting piece and in those...

This morning’s announcement of nominations for the Golden Globe Awards brought good news and bad news. The good news: Tina Fey and 30 Rock still rule.
The bad news: Julia Louise-Dreyfus does not.
So, who took Dreyfus’ place in the Best Actress category for TV musical or comedy? Debra Messing, for The Starter Wife. That leads me to believe that none of the Golden Globe voters has ever watched The Starter Wife. L-a-m-e.
Voters did, however, keep their wits about them when they nominated America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Mary Louise-Parker (Weeds) and Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?). Although I could never be untrue to Tina, I have to say that I’m secretly rooting for Applegate this year. What an amazing woman.
In the TV drama category, Best Actress nominees are Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters), January Jones (Mad Men), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Mariska Hargitay...
