This is the 35th adaptation for film/TV of the Henry James novella The Turn of the Screw. A movie remake telling a modern version of the tale called The Turning (2020) was released in theaters a few months before this series premiered.
The telephone number in the nanny advert in episode 1 is a number you can dial. You will hear a voice recording from Miles and Flora.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen was originally going to play the gardener love interest of Dani, but Mike Flanagan thought the audience might find it a little strange because Oliver and Victoria played twins in The Haunting of Hill House (2018) . So he was cast as the dastardly but tragic Peter Quint instead.
The episode titles are named after the ghost stories of Henry James.
Although the main narrative draws primarily from "The Turn of the Screw," it also draws inspiration from other Henry James ghost stories, including "The Jolly Corner," "The Romance of Certain Old Clothes," "The Great Good Place," "The Pupil," "The Two Faces", "The Way It Came" and "The Beast in the Jungle."
