Skylar Astin's first appearance in a movie.
While the film takes place in Tucson, Arizona, it was actually filmed mostly in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ironically, the two cities consider themselves sister cities due to similar political make-up, demographics and population size.
Around 1:02, Dana Marschz says "My life is a parody of a tragedy." Despite his intentions, his play, "Hamlet 2", is effectively a parody of a tragedy.
Skylar Astin and Phoebe Strole had just finished performing in "Spring Awakening" on Broadway together before making this film.
